Since you're here, shall we begin this episode of The Paul Leslie Hour? Listen, in the 20 years that Paul has been interviewing interesting folks, one person has appeared more than any other: Peter Mayer. Maybe you've heard Peter Mayer's music and are under his spell as well. Peter Mayer is a phenomenal singer-songwriter and guitarist. If you've seen Peter Mayer live, you know it's the best show in town. Peter also heads the Little Flock Music record label and fronts the Peter Mayer Group. He was Jimmy Buffett's lead guitarist starting in 1989. The second interview of Peter Mayer was broadcast on the radio to get the word out about Peter's album “Still in One Peace.” If you're looking it up that's p-e-a-c-e. Peter Mayer talked about the “Still in One Peace” album and about writing songs with Mac McAnally. Peter talked about Jimmy Buffett's reaction to his work and plenty of other subjects including food. Now, keep in mind that The Paul Leslie Hour is made possible by listeners like you. You can support independent media, giving yourself and others the gift of stories. Go right here, and we thank you. Oh, real quick: you're encouraged to see Peter Mayer and friends this Christmas season. There's a chance the Stars and Promises Christmas concert will be coming your way. Just go to petermayer.com The tour begins November 30th in Indiana and ends on December 22nd in South Carolina. You're about to hear a fantastic interview, but until recently half of it was lost. You made it here and we respect your decision. We thank you for tuning in to The Paul Leslie Hour an interview platform where you get to listen to fascinating people presented in a personal way. What we have here for you is an interview from the archives with Jeff Pike, a recurring and cherished guest on this show. Until now, there were a total of four available interviews that Paul Leslie did with singer and recording artist Jeff Pike, and now with this episode releasing, there are… five. Five. I'll tell you right now, this is the best of all of them. It was done kind of spontaneously— in-person, face-to-face. But, the nature of this interview was very personal. Jeff Pike is the front man and founder of the band A1A, known in the tropical music world. A1A had just released the island-inflected album “Beach Wrecked,” when this interview was first heard. The latest news is that Jeff Pike has released a solo single entitled “Sunset on L.A.” You'll want to check it out. Just a quick heads up. The Paul Leslie Hour is made possible by listeners just like you. You personally can support independent media and give yourself and others the gift of stories. Just go right here, and we thank you! And now, I think it's time we listen to the more personal interview of Jeff Pike. Let's listen… together.

#825 - Julie Harkness Arnold The Julie Harkness Arnold Interview on The Paul Leslie Hour! Are you here? Oh c'mon, I'll be 100 percent real with you. I already know you're here. You're here. And we love you for it. Thanks for tuning into another episode of The Paul Leslie Hour. I want to tell you a little story since you're here. This is about the interview you're about to hear, that was broadcast on the radio and has been tucked away ever since. This one goes way back, Paul was really green, just a rookie. A kid. He was recording this interview with Jules Harkness, also known as Julie Arnold, at a very luxurious hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time Jules was dancing with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. The much younger Paul was told what a kind, sweet woman Jules is. Very true. Now, Paul was asked about this interview and all he could do was tell the truth. Ya gotta tell the truth. When Jules Harkness walked into the room to do the interview, Paul was struck by one fact. What a strikingly beautiful woman Mrs. Jules Harkness Arnold is. He forgot for a moment what he was there for. In fact, he confided to his brotherly traveling confederate Jeff Pike that he had almost forgotten to breathe. That's the truth, folks! We tell you this because we respect you. That's the story and we're stickin' to it. Of course, Paul did his best to pretend it was business as usual. Now, Jules Harkness, along with Heather Dee Perry were dancers for Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. Jules is also known as Julie Harkness Arnold. This interview focuses on the theme of dancing, and how Jules found her way into the Coral Reefer Band and auditioning for Jimmy Buffett. Oh yeah and life on the road with the Coral Reefers, and what it's been like to dance in front of thousands. Then there's many other activities she is involved in: writing, charity, and her husband David A. Arnold's TV and comedy career. David A. Arnold made one of the best comedy records ever, entitled “Cause I Gotta Go to Work in the Morning.” Paul loves that album. Before we get into the interview, just remember that we've been going for 19 years and counting. We need more folks to subscribe to The Paul Leslie Hour on YouTube. Just go on there and it'll keep you up to date whenever we do a new interview. And now let's take you to that interview with Julie Harkness Arnold recorded in Atlanta, Georgia. And Paul, see if Paul was breathing or not. Wherever you are listening to this, we just want to say how much we appreciate you listening. God Bless and Keep You All. #718 - Brian Ray The Brian Ray Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. We're honored to have you tuning in for an especially magical episode featuring an ultra talent in live and recorded music: Brian Ray. Paul was asked not long ago, who he has interviewed that was “Just plain cool.” Paul thought about it and said, “Hmmm. Coolest, you said?” He was reminded of an in-person interview he recorded with Brian Ray at a Ritz Carlton hotel back in 2005. As you'll soon hear, Brian Ray is just a cool, laidback kind of guy. Well, he did grow up in Southern California. Now, about Brian Ray… He's a guitarist, singer, songwriter, recording artist, producer. He's appeared on some great recordings of artists ranging from Etta James, Paul McCartney, Steve Goodman, Willy DeVille, Stephen Bishop, Smokey Robinson and Shakira, etcetera! He's also toured with Paul McCartney for the last 20 years playing lead, rhythm and bass guitar. Brian was on tour with Paul McCartney and was kind enough to meet up with Paul. Jeff Pike, Paul's good buddy recorded the interview as well as some acoustic / vocal performances. At the time of the interview you're about to hear, Brian Ray was releasing his debut solo album, “Mondo Magneto.” You'll get to hear a couple of those songs “recorded live.” You'll probably want to get the record, which you can get on Amazon or Apple Music. It's a really phenomenal record featuring some great songwriting, one song even features the late Etta James. You can also, if you feel up to it, help us in our mission to keep telling the human story. Just go to http://www.thepaulleslie.com/support and we thank everyone who is contributing. #706 - Brian Galvin of the KISS Coffeehouse The Brian Galvin Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. This is an interview from the archives that's fairly atypical, really. Paul was invited to the Grand Opening of the KISS Coffeehouse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Yes, you heard that right. KISS Coffeehouse, and we mean KISS as in, the rock band. The KISS Coffeehouse was open from 2006 to 2013 and was officially licensed by the band KISS. You should see pictures of the place. So, that day Paul got in his trusty pickup truck and headed to Myrtle Beach with his traveling confederate and dear friend Jeff Pike. They were going to be able to ask and record some questions of Gene Simmons of KISS and Paul Stanley of KISS as well as the Creator of the KISS Coffeehouse, Brian Galvin. You'll be meeting Brian in just a moment. Really a charming guy. There's a lot of details to this tale, and maybe Paul will tell us one of these days. Long story short, Paul never got to interview Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Let's just say that a maniacal, unbalanced individual in an 18-wheeler had something to do with their delay. Paul and his pal Jeff Pike are grateful that they escaped with their lives. The pickup truck got them to Myrtle Beach, but there was some considerable damage. At the end of the night, there was Paul and Jeff: grateful to still have your feet on the ground and breathing air. Upon returning to Atlanta they were able to setup a phone interview with Brian Galvin of the KISS Coffeehouse. We have it for your listening pleasure and for historical research purposes, of course. 462 - Jeff Pike - A Celebration of Paul Williams The acclaimed 1979 film The Muppet Movie begins with the world's most beloved green frog, Kermit earnestly singing a beautiful ballad as he strummed his little banjo. The words Kermit sang were written by Paul Williams, one of the greatest songwriters ever. The sublime melody was composed by Paul's friend Kenny Ascher. That song, "The Rainbow Connection," has inspired the lovers and dreamers for decades. The Paul Leslie Hour presents A Celebration of Paul Williams, a series of interviews expressing appreciation and stories about the great Paul Williams. In this episode we are joined by singer-songwriter, performer and entertainer Jeff Pike. Jeff has performed internationally and is a prolific performing and recording artist. Jeff Pike's studio interpretation of "Rainbow Connection" is debuting September 19, 2020. Jeff sang, performed all instrumentation, arranged and produced this single and mastering was completed at Abbey Road Studios in London. In the interview Jeff and Paul discuss their mutual love for Paul Williams and the how and why of Jeff's version of the classic ballad. It's a heartfelt conversation between two friends who were brought together through music. You're invited to tune in! The Paul Leslie Hour is a talk show dedicated to “Helping People Tell Their Stories.” Some of the most iconic people of all time drop in to chat. Jeff could play a lot of the more obscure songs and with a personality that was uniquely his own. These performances fed the flames of the Atlanta Parrot Head Club, the first Jimmy Buffett fan club in history. This interview was broadcast 10 years ago in the first episode in a series entitled "The Magic of the Music: The Birth of a Parrot Head Nation."
