This episode is part 15 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 4-8 of the book of Mosiah. King Benjamin passes the crown of Zarahemla to his son Mosiah. The people all covenant with God and take on the name "the children of Christ."After King Benjamin passes away three years later, King Mosiah sends a band of men to the land of Nephi to find out what happened to others they had sent. Some stay near a hill in Silom outside the land of Nephi while Ammon and his three brothers enter. King Limhi of the Nephites arrests them and asks why they're there. When Limhi finds out they're from Zarahemla just as his grandfather was, they rejoice. The Lamanites had subjected the Nephites to burdensome taxes.Ammon and his brothers learn that some Nephite travelers had retrieved some golden plates from a more ancient civilization. We also find out that a "seer" is superior to an "interpreter" and a "prophet."Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Mosiah [chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]*** Please contribute to the Hurricane relief fund for A.M. This episode is part 14 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers the first three chapters of the book of Mosiah. We have now shifted to the land of Zarahemla to see how they relate to the land of Nephi, and are 300-400 years removed from Jacob, the son of Lehi.King Benjamin who succeeded his father Mosiah to the throne of Zarahemla is now old. He will speak to the people to pass the throne to his son also named Mosiah. Of course, he will give a long sermon to the people that sounds like something from a revivalist in the 1800's; except that hindsight prophecies about Jesus will be in there.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Mosiah [chapters 1, 2, 3]*** Please contribute to the Hurricane relief fund for A.M. September 23-29 How can you not be just thrilled with this week's readings? The entire Book of Mormon has been centered on one Person—Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer—and His coming to the earth and the promised visit to this righteous branch of the tribe of Joseph in the Americas. Lehi testified He would come. Nephi saw in vision that He would come. Jacob gave bold witness of His mission and His coming. King Benjamin, Alma the Elder, Alma the Younger, Ammon, Aaron, Omner, Himni, Helaman—and many more—they all testified that HE, the Lord Jesus Christ, would come—and in this week's exciting readings—HE CAME!
Comedy, Controversy, and Apocalyptic Insights with Ben and Amanda In this episode, Ben and Amanda dive into Ben's journey to recording his upcoming comedy special. He shares the challenges and controversies from his previous shows, particularly the backlash he faced from the Daybreak community over his comedic material about growing up in a Mormon polygamous compound. They discuss the dynamics of perfecting comedy material, with Ben excitedly announcing his special at Wise Guys on July 26th and 27th. The conversation also explores Amanda's personal battles and apocalyptic themes, including her experiences with trauma, the loss of her mother, and surviving multiple 'personal apocalypses.' The duo reflects on societal and environmental issues, offering satirical takes on current events and a poignant critique of modern civilization's impact on the environment. Additionally, they bond over shared Mormon backgrounds, engaging in discussions on community resilience, gardening, and innovative uses for religious spaces. Amid the deep conversations, there's a humorous proposal from a 'seer stone' on how to repurpose abandoned Mormon temples for community and inclusive activities. The episode wraps up with insights on the evolving landscape of comedy and the importance of creating meaningful connections and spaces in times of crisis. #PodcastAddict #EpicTalks #NewPodcast #Humor #EssentialListening #Storytelling #PodcastSeries 00:00 Getting Ready for the New Special 00:45 Controversy and Success in Daybreak 02:29 Refining the Craft 03:37 Upcoming Shows and Openers 04:07 Welcome to Vibing the Apocalypse 05:24 Personal Apocalypses 08:30 Childhood and the End of the World 11:11 Mormon Culture and Humor 20:24 Bear Encounters and Gender Dynamics 29:43 Reflecting on the Apocalypse and COVID-19 30:18 The Slow Burn of Societal Collapse 31:00 Capitalism and Environmental Degradation 34:13 The Illusion of Wealth and the American Dream 36:39 Native Wisdom and Sustainable Living 44:59 The Fallout Analogy and Video Games 48:39 Gardening and Apocalyptic Skills 56:32 Repurposing Mormon Temples 58:52 Closing Thoughts and Future Plans Ben's new special, recording special, comedy special, controversy Daybreak, Mormon polygamous compound, Ex-Mormons, Daybreak residence group, sold out show, YouTube video, Wise Guys comedy club, King Benjamin, Book of Mormon, Vibing the Apocalypse podcast, personal apocalypse stories, beauty pageant, Amanda McCombs, inner workings of the not-so-genius mind, personal apocalypses, loss of a loved one, Daybreak Utah.

Ancient and latter-day prophets have often testified of the importance of gospel-centered parenting. King Benjamin once taught, “But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another” (Mosiah 4:15). President Russell M. Nelson has exclaimed, “No other work transcends that of righteous, intentional parenting!” In this episode Dr. Mark D. Ogletree, professor of Church history and doctrine, discusses a critical branch in gospel-centered parenting: intentional fatherhood. Professor Ogletree outlines the characteristics and attributes of intentional fatherhood—principles that apply to all parents and mentors—by examining Alma's counsel with Helaman, Shiblon, and Corianton. Alma exemplifies a pattern of intentional behaviors as he testifies of the Savior and the truthfulness of the gospel, teaches his sons their ancestry, sets a righteous example and leaves the past behind him, offers individual counsel and praise to each son, calls his children to repentance, and teaches them true doctrine. Modern parents will be inspired on how to teach, direct, and interact with their children as they study the teachings of Alma 36–42. Mosiah 26 starts out by explaining that the rising generation didn't have the same conversion as their parents because they were just little during the time of King Benjamin. It made me think, we can't count on our kids being converted because we are, we have to help them have opportunities to have the gospel sink deep in their hearts.
This is a reading of Mosiah Chapter 26. Many members of the church of the rising generation that could not understand King Benjamin because they were children at the time, are led away. Our Mothers Knew It with Maria EckersleyA Creative Study of Come, Follow MeBook of Mormon [Mosiah 11-17] Insights“In the Strength of the Lord”May 13 - May 19, 2024WEEK 20: SUMMARY=================Lesson Summary:This week we'll study the powerful words of Abinadi to King Noah and his people. He'll echo the core messages of King Benjamin - about the Savior's life and redemptive role - but he will teach in a vastly different setting to a group who refuses to hear. His true words and poised testimony will prick the heart of Alma who will carry his message to others and create an epic pivot point in the Book of Mormon.Questions to Consider:MOSIAH 12:20-24 (PRIESTS QUESTION) & 15:14-18 (ABINADI'S ANSWER) | When have you seen “beautiful feet upon the mountains” like theirs? Abinadi is a pivot point in the story of the Book of Mormon. Much of the remaining text in the Book of Mormon are people impacted by Abinadi's ministry. How is Abinadi's sermon related to King Benjamin's? What are Abinadi's key messages? How is Jesus our “father,” and we are to be his “seed”? In this episode, BYU professors Jared Ludlow, Nick Frederick, Jan Martin, and Joshua Sears explore these questions in an inspiring scripture conversation.
Today we learn from King Benjamin how we can better come to know the Lord.

From Come Follow Me: "Have you ever heard someone speak and felt inspired to change your life? Perhaps you decided, because of what you heard, to live a little differently—or even a lot differently. King Benjamin's sermon was that kind of sermon, and the truths he taught had that kind of effect on the people who heard them. King Benjamin shared with his people what an angel had taught him—that wonderful blessings were possible through “the atoning blood of Christ” (Mosiah 4:2). Because of His message, they changed their view of themselves (see Mosiah 4:2), the Spirit changed their desires (see Mosiah 5:2), and they covenanted with God that they would always do His will (see Mosiah 5:5). This is how King Benjamin's words affected his people. How will they affect you?"Support the show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. April 29-May 5 Over our years of studies of the first 6 chapters of Mosiah we have all come to love King Benjamin and his marvelous teachings. We have the whole thing in our minds, don't we? The aged King Benjamin; the anointing of his son Mosiah to be the new king; the innumerable hosts of tents surrounding the temple and families in breathless attention to their servant King. We have the setting down pat, but what about the setting in our hearts—if King Benjamin were to send a text message to all of us, desiring to know if WE believed the words which he has spoken to US, what would be our answer? And what would be our proof?
An angel came to King Benjamin to deliver a message of peace and joy, it should come as no surprise that the message of peace and joy was centered in Christ.

Our Mothers Knew It with Maria EckersleyA Creative Study of Come, Follow MeBook of Mormon [MOSIAH 1-3] Insights“Filled with Love towards God and All Men”April 22 - April 28WEEK 17: SUMMARY=================Lesson Summary:This week, we'll cover the first three chapters of Mosiah and the first half of King Benjamin's sermon. His words to his sons and people are centered on service and offer us a powerful glimpse of true leadership. His recounting of the angel's words will help us recognize the character of the Savior.Questions to Consider:1. Mosiah 2:5-6 | Mosiah asked that the people gather in families, each in their own tent. Question: How does this approach mimic home-centered, church-supported learning? Why would this bless Benjamin's people? How does it bless us?2. Mosiah 2:36-37 | Benjamin warns that he's teaching them truth and they'll be held accountable for the knowledge they receive. He warns not to “withdraw themselves from the Spirit.” Question: Often we talk about the Spirit withdrawing from us. How do we withdraw from it? What does it mean to give the spirit “no place in us”?3. Mosiah 3:5 | The angel says Christ will come in a tabernacle of clay. Question: How does the word tabernacle/tent help you understand this second estate of mortality? Why clay? How does that word add to our understanding?CHAPTERS=========00:00:13 INSIGHTS INTRODUCTION00:06:15 SPARK 1: HOW TO LEAVE A LEGACY00:14:05 SPARK 2: COURAGE TO CLIMB00:22:34 SPARK 3: HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING00:3036: QUESTIONS00:33:56 WRAP UPFollow Maria on:Creative Come Follow Me digital courseMeckMom.comInstagram @meckmomlifeYouTube CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST DISCLAIMER: This podcast represents my own thoughts and opinions. April 22-28 Elder Neal A. Maxwell called the chapters we are studying today the “Manual of Discipleship”. Since Mormon could include only the hundredth part of the records he had available to him, this may be the reason he zeroed right in on King Benjamin's address and gave us so much of it. He knew we in the latter days would want to learn discipleship too.

Yesterday, on Maundy Thursday, King Charles gave an address very similar to King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon. This is not a coincidence. Kings and Queens have always had a contract/covenant with the people to act as representatives of God and to have the people follow suit. King Charles refers to Jesus washing the feet of the disciples, while King Benjamin is likely referring to a tradition of temple drama and coronation. Website - www.cwicmedia.com
