Sound is a beautiful thing – but silence can also be powerfully therapeutic, too. You've probably experienced various times in your life when you have felt tired, overloaded, and out of gas, right? Well, have you ever thought of using silence to recharge physically and emotionally? Because noise is around us all the time, we have become accustomed to the barrage of sounds that constantly pound our ears and nervous system…and over time, this can suck away energy and negatively affect us. Planning periods of silence can be a great way to refresh and renew, so listen (I know, it's a paradox) to hear about my experience at a recent silent retreat – and the three things you can do to create a powerful therapeutic silent experience yourself without leaving home! Enjoy! Special Thanks to Lauren Morton, the hostess of Bee-at-Peace Silent Retreats for guiding us through the experience.

Lauren Morton is a British female adventurer, ocean rower and endurance runner. She is recently the Star of Channel 4's The Island with Bear Grylls. In 2016 she skippered team Row Like A Girl across the Atlantic Ocean; breaking two Guinness World Records and becoming the fastest females to cross any ocean and the youngest female four to ever attempt the feat. She also appeared in and emerged as the star of Channel 4's The Island with Bear Grylls, has ran 7 marathons in 7 days in 7 countries, walked across Sri Lanka and sailed across the Atlantic. She has collectively spent over 200 days at sea. In 2013 at just 23 years old, Lauren was rescued from her first rowing attempt after 96 days at sea, she then spent 13 days on an Indian cargo ship and was dropped off into Canada. Lauren is passionate about showcasing women strengths, she is an advocate for girls' rights globally, and an ambassador for PLAN UK. Lauren has raised over £75,000 collectively for charity. She is an accomplished Inspirational Speaker, and takes great pleasure in inspiring others. I talk to Lauren about her adventures so far and why it is important for her to be a female role model for other girls. Episode will be released for you to download on 18th July – make sure you tune in!   What this episode has in store for you “I definitely lacked any female role models – all my role models were guys. There are so many amazing women doing so many amazing challenges and adventures, but you just don't hear about them.” “Things are taking a different path in terms of health and fitness. A lot of questions now aren't just what do you do 9 to 5 but what do you do 5 to 9. Those hours outside of work have become more important and social media, podcasts, and the digital world are helping open out this topic.' “The 2012 Olympics in London had a huge push for women in sport. Its' only in the last 2-3 years, I have started to put myself in their situation and thought why not me, why could I not be this person? Do I have the guts to try and do it myself?”
