The researchers went back 250 years and analyzed mortality of those who lived through famine, disease and natural disaster. I don't find this surprising because even in the blue zones, the areas where people live the longest, the women still outlive the men by an average of six months. Some scientists believe that estrogen may play a significant role due to its ability to boost and protect the immune system.
