This week, I focus mainly on Nova Scotia cases, including the tragic death of 37-year old mother of three, Allison Holtoff, and the legal threats made by the Provincial Department of Justice to Independent MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin. MLA Smith-McCrossin was speaking out on behalf of her constituent, alongside Ms. Holtoff's husband Gunter, after Ms. Holtoff died after a six-hour wait at the emergency room of the Cumberland Regional Health Centre. The executive director of legal services, Michelle Higgins, wrote the MLA, threatening her with legal action if she did not take down a letter which she had posted to Facebook about the incident. Other Nova Scotia cases in the news include two decisions dealing with food, social, and ceremonial fishing licenses held by aboriginal fishers, a civilian review of an RCMP officer tasering an armed forces veteran, a delay of 49 months leading to a dangerous driving charge being stayed, and the re-trial of Dalhousie medical student William Sanderson on a murder charge. Finally, I review the allegations against Jordan Peterson by the Ontario College of Psychologists, and the decision to make him take social media training.

You can purchase the Truth's Table book here at the "Dear Soft Black Woman" Bookshop. ABOUT TRUTH'S TABLEOnce upon a time, an activist (Michelle), a theologian (Ekemini), and a psychologist (Christina) walked into a group chat. Everything was laid out on the table: Dating. Politics. The Black church. Pop culture. Soon, other Black women began pulling up chairs to gather round. And so, the Truth's Table podcast was born.In their literary debut, co-hosts Christina Edmondson, Michelle Higgins, and Ekemini Uwan offer stories by Black women and for Black women examining theology, politics, race, culture, and gender matters through a Christian lens. For anyone seeking to explore the spiritual dimensions of hot-button issues within the church, or anyone thirsty to deepen their faith, Truth's Table provides exactly the survival guide we need, including: • Michelle Higgins's unforgettable treatise revealing the way “racial reconciliation” is a spiritually bankrupt, empty promise that can often drain us of the ability to do real justice work• Ekemini Uwan's exploration of Blackness as the image of God in the past, present, and future• Christina Edmondson's reimagination of what a more just and liberating form of church discipline might look like—one that acknowledges and speaks to the trauma in the room These essays deliver a compelling theological re-education and pair the spiritual formation and political education necessary for Black women of faith.ABOUT THE AUTHORSDr. Christina Edmondson (@DrCEdmondson) is an educator. These days, you don't need to lie down on a couch and speak with some old guy with a white beard when you have a mental health care appointment. What are the rewards that await Christians in heaven? I'll talk it over with Bible prophecy expert and author Mark Hitchcock, senior pastor of Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Okla., and author of "Heavenly Rewards: Living With Eternity in Sight." Plus: Has progressive activist Michelle Higgins been removed from her position at a PCA church after a transgender controversy? And John Loudon, national co-chairman of Citizen Voters, discusses his group's growing efforts to get a Citizen Voters Amendment -- allowing only American citizens to vote -- passed throughout the United States. We'll discuss that and more on Tuesday's MEFFERD TODAY.

Truth's Table is a podcast featuring Michelle Higgins, Christina Edmondson, and Ekemini Uwan. Together they are the midwives of culture for grace and truth. In October we had the privilege of partnering with Lee University to bring the ladies to Chattanooga for a live event. For the sake of the podcast we split the event into two episodes. Part 1 features introductions and the ladies telling the story of how they began the podcast. Part 2 is the Q&A portion of the evening that gets into a lot of cultural and theological topics.
