But Bill certainly stepped up as the pair celebrate the life and career of the great Davey Johnson to mark his passing at the age of 82. Johnson was a star as a player and a superstar as a manager, leading the Mets to their second championship in 1986 and adding significant value to basically every team he helmed. But he also had a pugnacious and self-destructive streak that seemed to undermine him everywhere he went even as he succeeded beyond all expectations. Plus, happy birthday to Mike Hampton! An inability to draw top-tier free agents to the thin air of Coors Field has been a struggle for the Rockies for decades. However, in 2001 the team took a gamble and spent big on a pair of pitchers. Mike Hampton was signed to a 8-year deal while Denny Neagle signed a 5-year deal. Despite the effort to bolster the rotation, both pitchers failed to deliver on their respective contracts. Later in 2015, the team spent $5 million on Kyle Kendrick to eat innings, but it was one the worst pitching seasons in team history. These three pitchers are examples that the Rockies use to justify not spending big on starting pitching, opting for homegrown and bargain-bin talent. Hour 4 The 9am hour begins with Boomer saying somebody in the NFC will make the playoffs that we aren't thinking about. We do a little over/under for some NFL teams according to FanDuel. Gio as Mike & The Mad Dog go win/loss within the first few weeks of the Giants schedule. Jerry returns for his final update of the week. The Yankees beat the A's no problem. Giancarlo Stanton returned and got himself a few RBIs. The Mets beat the Rockies thanks to a Pete Alonso HR and Jacob deGrom's strong outing. John Harbaugh was asked how Rex Ryan will do on The Amazing Race. Denzel Mims wants to be traded from the Jets. In the final segment of the show, Boomer has some video to shoot after the show. We also talked about Mets Old Timers Day which is happening tomorrow. Gio wonders if Mike Hampton will be booed.

Hour 1: Boomer & Gio open with the Mets win against the Rockies behind a fine performance by Jacob deGrom. Boomer wonders if deGrom's greatness will continue to be able to warrant a long term contract. Boomer was also talking to Mike Fleigelman about moving in the right field wall at Citi Field because many balls that look like HRs die out there. We moved on to the Yankees who beat up on a terrible A's team. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the Yankees beating the A's 13-4. They had 20 hits in the game. Josh Donaldson had 3 RBIs and joined Suzyn Waldman after the game. The Mets beat the Rockies without a lot of offense thanks to Jacob deGrom. Alonso did hit a 2-run HR. deGrom thinks he's close to throwing 100 pitches in a game. The Jets & Giants had a joint practice and Daniel Jones looked pretty good. There was a huge brawl in the Rams/Bengals joint practice and Aaron Donald was swinging helmets at players. Todd Bowles defends Tom Brady taking vacation from camp. And Dennis Rodman is not going to Russia to free Britney Griner. In the final segment of the hour, Gio says Boomer was watching female bare knuckle fighting in the break.There was an Australian Rules Football player who performed a sex act on his teammate in a public bar.  Hour 2: The 7am hour starts with Gio saying since the Zach Wilson injury, there seems to be a lack of excitement for both local teams. Boomer says Daniel Jones has to throw a lot this year so the Giants can see if he is the QB for the future. Gio wants to know the realistic exciting story lines for the Jets and Giants this season. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Mets beating the Rockies behind Jacob deGrom and a HR by Pete Alonso. The Yankees beat the A's with no problem. Josh Donaldson returned to Oakland with 3 RBIs. Jerry has audio from Daniel Jones about the new system he's in. The Rams & Bengals had a huge brawl in a joint practice as Aaron Donald was swinging helmets at players' heads. The Chiefs did a ‘choir huddle' to honor the late Len Dawson. In the final segment of the hour we talked about Gio going to see Chris Stapleton last night. He's a big Bengals and Boomer fan.  Hour 3: The 8am hour starts with Mets & Yankees talk. They are both playing terrible teams right now so they both have to sweep these series. A caller says Daniel Jones is going to have a great year with 10 wins and less than 10 INTs. We looked at the FanDuel odds for various NFL teams to win their divisions. Jerry returns for another update and starts with the Yankees dominating the A's. The Mets beat the Rockies with deGrom and Pete Alonso. Tom Brady returned to the Bucs and Todd Bowles has no concerns. In the final segment of the hour, we learned that Stephen A. Smith has a new podcast with Audacy.
