Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds spoke this week with SunDevilSource.com's Chris Karpman to find out as much as he could about Washington's next opponent, the Arizona State Sun Devils. To start, they give UW fans an idea of some of the places to go after the game, since it's a 1 pm start. Should it be Mill Ave? Scottsdale? Karpman offers up a few suggestions. Arizona State is going through some chaos at the moment, dealing now with a team without a permanent head coach, as well as an NCAA investigation into alleged recruiting violations. Karpman talks about what it's been like the last 18 months dealing with all the turmoil. And how is the coaching search going to go? Which names would intrigue Karpman in terms of taking ASU to the next level? As for the game itself, they started out at the ASU offense, led by Florida transfer Emory Jones, running back Xazavian Valladay, and receiver Elijhah Badger. Karpman offers up some key offensive line information as far as injuries and who should start against the Huskies. And how comfortable is Karpman with ASU's offense if they need to convert third and medium? After a quick break the talk moves to the defense. Miami transfer DL Nesta Jade Silvera is a name the Washington coaches have already identified as a problem. Does Karpman think the ASU defensive coaches will dial up pressures to get after Michael Penix Jr? And does Karpman think the ASU secondary will go more zone or man against Penix? And finally, if ASU needed to kick a 40+ yard field goal to win the game, how confident is Karpman that the Sun Devils will pull out the win? Grinolds asks Karpman; has he seen visitors struggle from turf to the natural grass of Sun Devil Stadium? And does he think that will factor into the end result of the game Saturday? As far as other intangibles, does Karpman think the game will be well attended? Will the weather impact attendance? He also adds a couple of other game notes that UW fans should take note of. Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
To call Saturday's loss to the Eastern Michigan Eagles football program would be one of the greatest understatements in the history of Arizona State Sun Devils football. The Sun Devils were 20+ point favorites and had crushed another smaller program in NAU to start the season 40-3. Coming off a 34-17 loss to Oklahoma State, there was little reason to think that Arizona State was going to lay an egg against a small school like Eastern Michigan, but alas that is exactly what happened. The Sun Devils got taken behind the woodshed by Samson Evans and the Eagles and lost at home 30-21. The loss was so bad, in fact, that head coach Herm Edwards was relieved of his duties as early as Sunday afternoon. The Arizona State Sun Devils football team has now been put into flux and a seemingly endless free fall that will make this a tough season to get through. While we don't want to begin our "the end is nigh" chants on Mill Ave., there are a lot of important conversations that need to be had regarding the state and future of the Arizona State Sun Devils football program. Before we get there though, host Richie Bradshaw goes through what happened during the Sun Devils' loss to the Eagles on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.BetOnline.net has you covered this season with more props, odds, and lines than ever before. Walt Richardson is a military son, eldest of 8 siblings, singer/songwriter, band leader, and member of the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. How many folks do you know with a gold star on Mill Ave? He regales me with tales of growing up around the world, his first impressions of Tempe in the 1970s, his time at ASU, pursuing music full time, his philosophy on life and music, and we even have time to answer some fan questions. He also shares a live version of his tune "Love Wings." For more information on Walt, please visit http://walterrichardson.com/ (http://walterrichardson.com/).
Elegant cocktails, craft beer, and quality food find a home on the menu at The Golden Pineapple off of Mill Ave in Tempe. Founded by the same people who brought you The Theodore, Sleepy Whale, and the soon to open Beer Barn, this vibin' neighborhood hotspot is a must-visit. On this episode of A Taste of AZ Podcast, we sit down with the proprietors of The Golden Pineapple, Justin Evans and Tony Fatica. Cheers!
Visual artist and singer/songwriter Doug Bale stops by for a little chat about his early years in AZ bumming around the live music venues on Mill Ave in Tempe. He shares his experience in LA and his various musical collaborations. We go DEEP into our shared love of Steely Dan. He teaches me what "KPI" means. We also talk about his tune "Outside" that he recorded with his band Mergatron. We also discuss his visual art, of which I am a fan. Our guest today is Justin Randall. A former 2-tone-Mohawk wearing punk who has received a lifetime ban from all K-Mart stores, was once Woody Harrelson’s personal bodyguard, had an argument with Johnny Cash, then NITRO, (among others), has served time in jail, done a ton of drugs, and naturally- he repeatedly failed Math. Raise your hand if you can relate to any of these grand “achievements”? Justin has since earned his MBA, a BS in Computer Science and has built an amazing career as a transformational servant leader in the Fin-Tech vertical, working with some of the top fortune 100 and 500 companies on how to manage anxiety in uncertain times. How the heck did he do all that, especially having ADHD?! Even more, how does he continue to do that in 2020? True story folks. Enjoy! In his own words: I am a former 2-tone-Mohawk’d Skate/PUNK who has received a lifetime ban from ALL K-Mart stores in the USA, 3 lifetime bans from the Fiesta mall, and 5 lifetime bans from Mill AVE in downtown Tempe (Where I currently have an office)! For a VERY brief moment, I was Woody Harrelson’s personal bodyguard, had a misunderstanding with Johnny Cash that lead to him being allegedly pushed down a flight of stairs, initiated an impromptu flex off with American Gladiator “NITRO”, and Hungout Dee’BO (Tom Tiny Lister Jr) Kato Kaelin at Phoenix International Raceway. Despite my 9th grade math teachers forecasting and against the odds, earned a BS in Computer Science, a Master's in Business Administration, and have built an amazing career as a transformational servant leader in the Fin-Tech vertical, working with some of the top fortune 100 and 500 companies. I am a HOPELESS and avid adrenaline junkie who prioritizes snowboarding, cliff jumping, skydiving, mountain biking, and EATING above most other things. I am a Spartan Trifecta finisher, RAGNAR’ian, two time 70.3 IRONMAN and currently training for my 1st 140.6 in 2020. ABOVE all, I am a father of 4, grandfather of 1, have a SMOKING HOT WIFE that I not only love, I REALLY LIKE, and for some reason I still think and acts like a 14 yr old. I am a survivor of a pretty ROUGH upbringing, filled with some extremely traumatic events, and have THRIVED by focusing on the FUN in the dysfunction. I am on a mission to tell my story and spread my message so as to reach others who are stuck in the darkness of depression, PTSD, fear, and anxiety. If this is you, I want you to KNOW; There IS light, hope, happiness and FUN in this world and I am here to help you find it! In this episode Peter & Justin discuss: 1:03- Intro & welcome Justin Randall! 2:44- First things first- how are you doing during all this chaos?! 4:13- When were you diagnosed with ADHD? 4:44- Because you weren’t diagnosed; what were you doing to get along? 6:05- The suggestion of “you’ll wind up in jail” actually manifested. How did you make the commitment to change your ways for good/What was your rock bottom? 9:14- On filling the spaces left in between 9:56- On endorphins and the effects of making progress 11:46- On Imposter Syndrome and Jr. High School Peter (High School Peter) 12:28- So when the voices of self-defeat and demons pop back into your head nowadays, what do you do? 14:00- Player mentality aka In some way, Rocky always wins 14:27- For which Ironman are you training? 15:53- How can people find you? @iamjrandall on: Twitter INSTA FB or Justin Randall via LinkedIN 16:16- Last question: If someone who’s listening is in a dark place right now, what one piece of advice would you give them? 17:43- Thank you Justin for joining us! And thank YOU for being here.. for subscribing, reviewing and listening. Your reviews are so helpful. Even if you’ve reviewed us before, would you please consider writing even a short one for this episode? Cellist and educator Wesley Skinner regularly puts together programs like "Bach and baklava" and "Bach and guac." I hope he gets back to me about my "Bach with Glocks" idea to bring classical music to shooting ranges. We went to Cornish Pasty to discuss the need for a strong repertoire, dealing with the nerves of playing solo, and why he might owe his whole career to Mr. Rogers. You can hear Wesley in action and view upcoming events on Facebook or his website, wesleyskinnercellist.com Wesley will be performing three of Bach's cello suites as part of the Tempe Festival for the Arts. Performance will be Saturday, December 3 at 4PM on Mill Ave. Also on Dec 2, Wesley will be teaching all levels of young Arizona cello students at ASTA-AZ's Cellobration at Tempe High School.
