Episode 133 of The Hitstreak, a podcast where we talk about anything and everything!  This week we are joined by husband & wife duo and Senior Loan Originators at Walton Funding, Grant & Summer Martin!Let us know in the comments what YOU want to hear about next!About our guests: Grant went to High School at Montgomery Bell Academy as a multi sport athlete, Won the Babe  World Series, Graduated as Belmont University Baseball's All time hits and doubles leader, lead the team in average 3/4 years, and inducted into the Belmont Athletic Hall of Fame.  (Dave Jarvis coached Grant 3/4 years, was inducted into the hall of fame with Grant in the same class, and introduced Grant during the induction)After Belmont, Dell computers had just opened in Nashville. Grant went to work there since computers weren't his strong suit.  He then sold a large computer deal to a mortgage company near his house, and went to all the buildings and got the numbers from the signs, looked them up in the phone book, and went into the mortgage business … in August of 2001. He went on to run and found multiple mortgage companies where he has over seen billions of production through 9/11, the crash of 2008, and Covid.  And during whatever this time period would be called:)He has been married to His wife Summer for going on 5 years, has 4 children and 3 bonus children, age ranges from 20 to 4 years old. With his athletic experience, He has created a character curriculum for athletes, coaches and parents called 99 Mental. He also has been coaching youth sports  in multiple sports and leagues since 2012. Including a team that went to the Little League World Series, several college and professional athletes.   Follow and contact:  Instagram: @GrantLMartin waltonfunding.com Summer was raised in the Carolinas before returning to her birth place in Tennessee. She cheered competitively, power tumbled, and was a year-round competitive swimmer. Summer earned many state, regional, and national titles in competitive cheer. At the youngest age to qualify for the ranking, she ranked 9th in the nation.  At 16, Summer gave birth to her first child.  While a student at MTSU and now a young mother, Summer worked three part-time jobs to build a new life for her and her daughter. One of those jobs was as a bank teller, which eventually became her full-time job and set the course for her entire career. Summer quickly moved up the ranks at Synovus Bank, moving into assistant management, and then commercial banking.  There she learned how to navigate complex financial structures and accumulated record setting, and attention getting business levels for the bank, moving her into the Executive Leadership program, reporting directly to the CEO.  But banking was boring.  And while numbers suited Summer's intellect, they didn't suit the fulfillment of her heart.  She moved into the mortgage business in 2015.  There she found a passion for guiding customers into the place she wanted them to be most served by her number skills; home.  In 2019, Summer became a full time Loan Officer.  Once again, quickly rising in the ranks, she became a top producer, closing over $100,000,000 in loans, while also training other loan officers, and mainly handling the businesses' most financially complex, and high net worth clients.  Summer is married to Grant, and now has 3 beautiful daughters, one bonus daughter, 2 bonus sons, and one son.  All ranging from age 20 to 4.  She also has the more complicated daily chore of walking and feeding her two furriest children, Duke and Lola, 2 beautiful golden English labs.  Follow and contact:  Instagram: @summermartin18 waltonfunding.com

Scott Hearon is a native Nashvillian and a 2006  graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy where he played football and basketball for the Big Red. A remarkably average athlete, Scott did not make a big impact in the high school stat columns, but he found his niche as a gifted leader and communicator among his teammates and coaches. Scott continued on to Baylor University and earned a degree in Communications and a minor in Business. While at Baylor, he met new football coach, Art Briles, during football tryouts when Coach Briles informed him that his 5.0 second 40 yard dash time was not quite good enough to be a slot receiver for the Bears. After returning from Texas, Scott took a ministry job working with high school students and their families and coaching in his spare time. He found a lot of success in his day job, but found his coaching to be a disaster. Reminded of the incredible potential athletics has to prepare players for life, Scott set out on a mission to be be a more full hearted leader himself and to develop opportunities to help other coaches do the same. This journey led Scott to co-found the Nashville Coaching Coalition in 2015 and begin as the Executive Director full-time in 2016 with the goal of fully leveraging the human growth potential of sport in Nashville. Eddie George: Faith, Family, and the 3E’s

Heisman Trophy winner, All-Pro running back, entrepreneur, sports analyst, philanthropist, teacher, author, actor, husband and father are all words used to describe Eddie George, who has excelled just as much off the field as he did on the field during his time at The Ohio State University and in the NFL. Influencer (INFLCR) founder Jim Cavale caught up with George at his son’s football practice at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville to discuss winning the 1995 Heisman Trophy, and advice for others, including the 3E’s of his post-football career (entrepreneurship, entertainment, education) and his four pillars of life: the physical, the spiritual, the emotional, and the social. Ever since walking on campus at The Ohio State University, the social pillar – who you surround yourself with – has been a key for George. A native of Philadelphia, George moved from Abington High School to Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia before his junior year. At OSU, similar to his time at Fork Union, his playing time was sparing until his final two seasons. He says surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals is one of the most important, especially in today’s culture of social media. It also plays perfectly into how he became the Heisman winner, an NFL great and all that has followed. “The social really defines who you are, whether you have mentors that are older than you, wiser than you, more money than you, more knowledge, or you’re mentoring someone else,” George said. “There’s a give-and-take you have to have. You have to be a conduit to receive knowledge, wisdom, and information and giving your mistakes and so forth and filtering that through to someone else.” As a senior in 1995, it was a core group of teammates which pushed George to set the Buckeyes’ single-season rushing record with 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns to win the Heisman, what he calls the greatest team award given to an individual and a title that is forever. “I was fortunate enough to be around a great group of guys that worked extremely hard and pushed me every day and challenged me every day,” George said. “We would compete on a daily basis … That competitive environment helped me win the award.” George was drafted in the first round by the Houston Oilers in 1996 and played eight seasons with the Oilers and Tennessee Titans, including the Titans’ Super Bowl appearance in 2000. By the time he closed his NFL career after one season in Dallas, George compiled 10,441 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns. From day one though, George knew his career would come to an end. That is why he returned to Ohio State to earn his bachelor’s in landscape architecture in 2001. He began his first business in 2003, his eighth season in the NFL, as co-founder of landscape architecture firm EDGE. “I wanted to use my celebrity, my status, and my network to help me develop a business and build an enterprise and become an entrepreneur,” George said. In today’s world, he knows that celebrity status includes social media – a tool George says must be managed by filtering your content to make sure it’s authentic and true to yourself. He says he has uses his 3E’s approach (entrepreneurship, entertainment, education) to pursue his life after ball. He recognizes that building a successful life after sports can be difficult for some because the results aren’t as instant as they are in football. “Often what is happening is guys get discouraged, and they say it’s not working,” George said. “The key is to stay persistent at all costs. That’s the driving force -- persistence and faith. You’ve got to walk with that, and you’ve got to have a strong faith in God, a strong spiritual will to get you from point A to point B within the next level of your life because you’re not going to see the small victories often. You have to continue to see that dream in your mind when it’s not tangible.”
