Dr.  McManus witnessed firsthand the devastating impact that racism had on his racially, ethnically, and religiously diverse family growing up in a white flight town south of Boston. The eldest of three boys, Joe-Joe was born into a working-class family that lived in an apartment behind the local “packie” (liquor store). Shortly after his first birthday, his parents adopted five-week-old Kacey, and a few years later, their brother B-J was born. Racism became an issue early on for the McManus boys because of the reactions to Kacey, who was African American. Their family of five also experienced anti-Semitism and classism, but nothing was as insidious as the anti-Black racism that was ever present. Taught to actively oppose racism and intersecting oppressions from an early age, it became Joe-Joe's life's work after Kacey's passing at only seventeen years old.  Motivated by his experiences as a father and his reflections on the challenges faced by his daughter, Makaila, Dr. Joe-Joe McManus shares heartfelt stories and actionable strategies for dismantling racism and fostering equity. He takes you by the hand and into his world which is shaped by courage, equity, and a relentless pursuit of freedom. Through deeply personal stories and groundbreaking strategies, this book illuminates how the decisions you make can either uphold or dismantle the systems that perpetuate racism.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Abby, Patrick, and Dan take up a topic that couldn't be more relevant to the contemporary zeitgeist – aggression – as theorized by an unlikely source: the British analyst and pediatrician D.W. Winnicott. What did this beloved and famously gentle figure have to say about aggression, and our taboos and fantasies surrounding it? Where does aggression come from, and what is its function developmentally? And what role can acknowledging feelings of “hate” play in the family, in psychotherapy, and in everyday life? To answer all these questions, this episode – the first in a three-part series – sees Abby, Patrick, and Dan sketch out Winnicott's biography, discuss his theoretical preoccupations, and unpack his approach to therapy, especially with severely distressed children and adults. Close-reading his essay, “The Roots of Aggression” (collected in the The Child, the Family, and the Outside World) they explore how, for Winnicott, the capacity to work with aggression implicates everything from our ability to move in physical space to our feeling deserving of love.Robert Adès et al., editors. “Index of Available Audio Recordings.” The Collected Works of D. When we see money, people, or a future outcome as the source of our happiness, freedom and well-being, we are always on a chase. We work hard, and fulfillment is conditional. When we awaken to the Truth that Source is WITHIN ourselves, we remember we are guided and provided for infinitely. Freedom is UNCONDITIONAL. There are elaborate points systems based on how NFL players do each week.  There's a reason why people take part in fantasy leagues – to feel closer to friends, family or to spend time with coworkers. For people who are incarcerated, fantasy football creates a connection to the outside world. Our dissatisfaction can't be solved in the outside world. #QuoteoftheDay In this episode of My Love of Life Energy, I am speaking with my partner in the Exquisite Being project, Molly Lynch, as we dive into the 58th Gene Key, exploring the journey from dissatisfaction to vitality and, ultimately, bliss. This Gene Key encourages us to look beyond external solutions and turn inward, discovering the deep stillness and energy that reside within. We discuss how dissatisfaction can serve as a powerful catalyst, leading us to tap into an abundant inner vitality. Together, Molly and I reflect on the transformative power of intuitive awareness and how, by slowing down and observing our responses, we can shift from reactive mind-driven states to a peaceful, blissful connection with life itself. -- #MyLoveOfLifeEnergy #InsideOutUnderstanding

While most of us think of hair in terms of current fashion trends and style ourselves accordingly, (or not!), most long-lasting schools of thought still have customs related to hair based on traditions that have lasted millenia. The Vedic worldview is no different, and in fact, many of the traditions related to the hair can be traced back to Vedic origins. In this episode, Thom explains that hair has a very subtle yet specific function, beyond just keeping the head or the body warm, that dictates a style of relating to the world, or even retreating from the world. While it may not affect how you manage your own hair, it will give insights into the ways in which many masters, monks, sadhus and other teachers manage theirs.Episode Highlights:[00:45] Hair as a Conduit[02:06] One Set of Tubes After Another[04:12] A Larger Information Base[06:11] Signaling the Phase of Life[08:15] Hair that Grows Unfettered[10:21] Three Kinds of Characters[11:58] What's Cooking in the Outside World?[13:36] Please Tell Me All About Everything[14:51] Shakya Muni[16:14] Demonstrating Self Sufficiency[17:58] Stop Cutting Your Hair[20:30] The Best Time to Get a Haircut[22:00] Don't Let Your Life Go in Orbit Around Here[23:51] Don't Make a Big Issue of ItUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

We tend to look for validation from the outside world, because we struggle to trust ourselves. The reason we don't trust ourselves, is simply because we don't entirely know who we are. We'd rather run to others to help us, instead of learning how to help ourselves. We are programmed to do this, and it makes us weak. Be your bestfriend because at the end of the day, no one knows you like you. Stop missing out on getting to know who you are, the person you're missing out on is someone extremely intelligent. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kaitlin-reagan/support

Over It And On With It

This episode is about shifting your external world while making internal changes. Today's caller, Jenn, has been through transformational changes and believes she is confused about her work as a relationship coach. Anyone who is on the growth path will relate to this call in some way.   [For show notes go here: Christinehassler.com/episode391]   As we uncover and heal our issues, either in relationships or in the physical, we shift our vibration. Our energetic selves change, which creates a shift in what we're attracted to and what we attract. Dis-ease and/or toxic relationships are heavy in energetic weight. As we heal, clear, and forgive, it shifts our vibration and creates changes in our outside world. Some changes happen naturally and some just give us an unsettling feeling about something not being right.   As we shift consciousness, our identity shifts and as it does it can feel confusing because our external life is not congruent with our internal life.   Just because you don't have clarity about something or something doesn't feel as fulfilling as it used to, doesn't mean you are confused. You are in a time of change and transformation. For something to transform, it must go through a period of chaos and uncertainty. Don't rush to figure it out — allow it to be revealed.   Are you a single lady who is looking for a gentleman? Are you ready to call in epic love? Find out more about the Be the Queen program, which began on February 28, 2023. It includes an in-person one-day retreat in San Diego on October 12, 2023, and the self-paced evergreen course at christinehassler.com/bethequeen or email Jill@christinehassler.com.   Consider/Ask Yourself: Is there some aspect of your life that doesn't feel right, or just feels off? Have you healed a relationship or physical issue that has catalyzed wanting to make changes in other aspects of your life? Can you relate to being a chameleon to stay safe? Are you a people pleaser? Are you scared of being vulnerable or being seen?   Jenn's Question: Jenn feels she has lost her inspiration and passion for her business. She wants to gain clarity about her coaching business.   Jenn's Key Insights and Ahas: She had a falling out with her mother. She was physically ill. She internalizes her mother's issues. She was a people pleaser and chameleon around her mother. She has always been there for others. Her relationship coaching feels shallow to her now. She's committed to getting out of her head.   How to Get Over It and On With It: Bring more of her own voice into her business. Don't underestimate the value she brings to her clients. Consider the way the people she appreciates share their stories. Share more of her emotional depths.   Takeaways: Get Expectation Hangover if you don't have it already, and in the spiritual section do the lesson quest exercise under the role of the seeker. Take an inventory of your external life. Does it match your internal life? How can you be more vulnerable and honest? Think of the ways you are a people pleaser or play small. How can you step into a deeper level of authenticity? Where are you telling yourself you are confused when you are not? Can you allow yourself to be in uncertainty?   Resources: Christine Hassler Christine Hassler Podcasts Inner Circle Membership Community @ChristinHassler on Twitter @christinehassler on Instagram Jill@ChristineHassler.com Expectation Hangover: Overcoming Disappointment in Work, Love, and Life, by Christine Hassler
