Nació en Montevideo en 1929. En 1947, a los 18 años, ingresó a la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (ENBA) donde estudió dibujo y modelado con los profesores Juan Martín y Severino Pose. En 1954 llegó a la ENBA como profesor Eduardo Díaz Yepes, y Octavio pasó a trabajar con él.Becado a Europa, se perfeccionó en escultura con Henri-Georges Aadam y Lászlo Zsabo en la Académie du Feu de Francia y en Italia.En 1964 fue profesor titular del Taller de Técnicas de la Madera y en 1969 del Taller de Escultura de la ENBA. Entre 1969 y 1980 fue también docente en la Escuela Pedro Figari de UTU.Ha expuesto individualmente en innumerables ocasiones y locaciones en Uruguay y en el exterior, ha participado en salones municipales y nacionales, ha dictado conferencias y ha recibido premios por su arte y proyección humanística y social.En 1988 recibió el Premio Figari a la trayectoria artística y en 2003 fue nombrado Ciudadano Ilustre de Montevideo.En 2014 recibió la Medalla Delmira Agustini por sus contribuciones al arte y la cultura.El arte de Podestá.Podestá realiza sus esculturas principalmente con materiales de desecho. Él se confiesa: “Mi taller se convirtió en un depósito de materiales. Yo estoy juntando cosas desde los 14 años”. Esculturas en madera, hierro y chatarra metálica van “de lo abstracto a lo figurativo, resignificando el desperdicio industrial”.Sus figuras vivientes son resueltas con criterio mecanicista, en busca de movimientos lúdicos. Utiliza el color -“rojos, azules, sienas y blanco”- para cubrir los fragmentos que no adquirían el color natural del óxido ferroso.

New episode of Spanish Loops! Today, we get into the life of Saint John of the Cross, born Juan de Yepes y Álvarez in 1542 in Fontiveros, Spain. From a humble beginning, John faced hardship early on, losing his father at a young age. Despite these challenges, he pursued a religious life, joining the Carmelite Order in 1563. John met Saint Teresa of Ávila in 1567, and together they sought to reform the Carmelite Order, which led to severe opposition. He suffered imprisonment and harsh treatment but remained steadfast in his faith. Saint John of the Cross is renowned for his profound mystical poetry and spiritual writings, such as "Dark Night of the Soul" and "The Ascent of Mount Carmel." His works explore the soul's journey towards God, emphasizing sacrifice and divine union. José Antonio Gil Yepes, socio director de Datanálisis, PH.D. en sociología y administración de empresas, aseguró que María Corina Machado va por 58% de aprobación y que 45% de los venezolanos votaría por el sustituto que la candidata apoye. Explicó que una elección primaria donde participó 14% de la población y ganó un candidato con 90%, es muy significativo y un llamado de atención a los partidos de oposición y gobierno. Gil Yepes indicó que el venezolano está de acuerdo con la negociación y métodos institucionales como mecanismos de entendimiento en un 78%. «El referéndum está dividido en un 40% que no votará, 40% que si y 20% que no sabe» añadió. Hizo un llamado a que los venezolanos para que participen en el proceso electoral, insistiendo en que se está arriesgando algo que siempre será venezolano, mientras que el gobierno pasará. El socio-director de Datanálisis destacó que el Gobierno está cometiendo el mismo error de la oposición, ocuparse de la política en vez de la economía. También te puede interesar: María Corina Machado plantea que defensa del Esequibo se haga en la CIJ Por su parte, Saúl Cabrera, analista político y presidente de la encuestadora Consultores 21, resaltó que estos dos últimos meses del año han sido muy movidos, anunciándole a los venezolanos que habrán cambios políticos. «El primer ramalazo fue la primaria, muchos pensaban que esta se iba a implosionar o iba a ser muy pequeña y pareciera que no fue así» acotó. Señaló que la primaria generó un impacto en la población y dio un aire fresco a la posibilidad de que se moviera el escenario político. Cabrera recalcó que el Gobierno ha hecho esfuerzos importantes para estabilizar la economía, pero internamente hay fuerzas que le impiden avanzar más.
