Locked On Patriots - Daily Podcast On The New England Patriots
Following the selection of Christian Gonzalez in the first round (No. 17 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots bolstered a position group which already includes veterans Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, Myles Bryant, as well as rookies Ameer Speed and Isaiah Bolden — who is far from being the Patriots version of “Mr. Irrelevant.” Still, New England may be forced to lean on such depth in light of the recent legal troubles of second-year defensive back Jack Jones. Host Mike D'Abate welcomes Thomas ‘Murph' Murphy to break down the Pats cornerback depth chart heading into 2023 training camp. After the New England Patriots draft stud corner Christian Gonzalez with the 17th overall pick, the Patriots secondary has gotten a major boost as it's taken shape. With the first rounder expected to start as a CB1, Jack and Jonathan Jones filing in as well as Myles Bryant, where does that leave Marcus Jones? The speedy defensive back was a big silver lining from last year's rough season, including some big plays on offense. With him suddenly buried behind the depth at safety and corner, is there a chance for the Patriots to move Marcus Jones to offense? Could Marcus Jones become an offensive weapon for New England? Greg Bedard and Nick Cattles discuss on the latest Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast. What a month it's been for Isaiah McKenzie. Not sure we've seen a turnaround quite like this anywhere in the NFL this season.Way back when the Buffalo Bills were shellacked by the Indianapolis Colts, 41-15, the receiver/returner was promptly sent to the bench. Head coach Sean McDermott appeared to be making an example out of McKenzie after his fumble in the blowout loss. And right then, as he explains on this week's show, McKenzie feared his career with the Bills may be finished. He was inactive in New Orleans, then inactive against the Patriots at home.McKenzie got called back up for a handful of plays in Tampa Bay and finally — with wide receivers Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis both on the Covid-19 list — McKenzie was needed. He did not disappoint, either. In Buffalo's 33-21 win in Foxborough, he caught 11 passes for 125 yards with one touchdown. Again and again, quarterback Josh Allen looked for McKenzie in crucial situations and now Super Bowl hopes are very real again for the Bills. On “The Isaiah McKenzie Show,” at Go Long, McKenzie digs into it all…* The benching. He breaks down his conversation with McDermott and what happened next personally. It took a few sleepless nights to get past his head coach's decision. McKenzie was in his own head. This wasn't easy.* How he dominated Bill Belichick's defense. Not many receivers can live to tell these stories but McKenzie knew that in man-to-man coverage, no cornerback could keep up with him. So, he ate Myles Bryant's lunch.* His rapport with Josh Allen. He's convinced they still have a rare connection that goes back to 2018 when Allen was a raw rookie out of Wyoming and he was just trying to save his NFL career after the Denver Broncos gave up on him. The two are tight. Allen believed in McKenzie with Beasley and Davis both out.* Spending Christmas Eve with complete strangers. It's the ultimate Western New York story, isn't it? McKenzie was hungry, let folks know on social media and, voila, all of a sudden he's at the kitchen table with a family. He explains how it all happened.* His Georgia Bulldogs are playing in the College Football Playoff. He wants a piece of ‘Bama in the title game, too.* Remember when McKenzie's chest landed on the ball? He's still feeling the effects of that one.* What does the future entail for McKenzie? He's been joking with teammates that coaches only use him one game a year, so who the heck knows what happens next. He breaks down his conversation with McDermott and what happened next personally. It took a few sleepless nights to get past his head coach's decision. McKenzie was in his own head — this wasn't easy. How he dominated Bill Belichick's defense. Not many receivers can live to tell these stories but McKenzie knew that, in man to man, no corner could keep up with him. He ate Myles Bryant's lunch. His rapport with Josh Allen. He's convinced they still have a rare connection that goes back to 2018 when Allen was a rookie and he was just trying to save his NFL career. The two are tight and Allen believed in him with Beasley and Davis both out. Spending Christmas Eve with complete strangers. It's the ultimate Western New York story, isn't it? McKenzie was hungry, let folks know on social media and, voila, all of a sudden he's at the kitchen table with a family. He explains how it all happened. His Georgia Bulldogs are playing in the College Football Playoff. (He wants a piece of ‘Bama in the title game, too.) Remember when McKenzie's chest landed on the ball? He's still feeling the effects of that one. What does the future entail for McKenzie? He's been joking with teammates that coaches only use him one game a year, so who the heck knows what happens next. Maybe now, a calendar year later, he is this team's secret weapon. As a youngster growing up in Southern California, Myles Bryant used to sell programs at the Rose Bowl. It's one of those memories that stuck with him over the years, especially when he got to play in the game as a member of the Washington Huskies. The journey continues for Bryant now as a member of the 6-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots. This week on the Silvi Know podcast, Bryant describes why his "football junkie" mentality makes him a perfect fit for the Patriots (4:08) and how the sacrifices he made as a freshman at UW will help him as a rookie in New England (11:35).Bryant also talks about why he loved Sundays in high school, because he got to study pro football broadcasts (19:00). Other topics include why YouTube is the greatest platform (20:40), why "Knuckleheads" is the greatest podcast (21:30) and why some of his greatest workouts have been with former Seahawk Richard Sherman (23:50). Bryant also talks Bill Gates and Elon Musk all on this week's Silvi Knows podcast.

Oh hello, Gabey here. If you're reading this, I hope you're healthy and doing as well as the world's circumstances allow. Anyhoo, it turns out the impending NFL Draft gives Andrew, Rob, and me an excuse to blather on about football things for just long enough to make a podcast episode about it. Listen on if you want to hear: What we think on the potential trajectory for Jacob Eason's career (and for some reason Justin Herbert's, as well) Our thoughts on Nick Harris, Trey Adams, and Jared Hilbers' varying floors and ceilings in le NFL and their potential draft spots Hunter Bryant's not great speed-showing at the combine versus his quite great speed showing at UW: Wtf m8? Myles Bryant's limitations as a lil' short guy next to his skill value in the late rounds Plus: With 2020 and beyond in flux, what the ever-loving crap does the future hold for college football, the Pac-12, and UW? (Answer: We have no clue.) And a recommendation for a new humor-and-more blog founded by a mega-funny UW grad, in case you guys want some chuckle-inducing content during the insanity of 2020. Washington head football coach Chris Petersen, senior safety Myles Bryant and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake talk with Tony Castricone about the recent game against Utah and the upcoming game at Oregon State.
It's USC week, and the Washington Huskies know it - especially those that played in the last game between the two teams in Seattle. It was 2016, UW was ranked #4, ESPN Game Day was in town, and USC spoiled the party. Obviously everything has pretty much changed since that time. Washington has continued to flirt with the college football playoff but hasn't quite reached the summit. USC, on the other hand, has really changed a lot. Their offense has totally changed. New offensive coordinator Graham Harrell brought the Air Raid system with him. He played and coached under Mike Leach, so are the Huskies going to be seeing WSU South? Probably not. There's enough wrinkles to keep Death Row guessing a little bit, but there's enough similarities between how they run the Air Raid in Los Angeles compared to Pullman to give UW a great sense of what they'll be up against Saturday at 12:30 pm. Washington under Chris Petersen is going to keep an even keel as much as possible. They are going to practice the same for Eastern Washington as they would for USC. But for the players, especially the twenty-plus players that call the greater Los Angeles and San Diego areas home, this game means just a little bit more than the others. This is the mighty Men of Troy, the program they all watched as kids. The Dawgman guys - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Jack McCauley - talked to a bunch of Washington players Tuesday about playing USC, recapping their emphatic win at BYU, and also the kind of atmosphere they're expecting on Saturday. Fall quarter starts up Wednesday, so this was the media's chance to talk to the players before the game. For players like Aaron Fuller, Andre Baccellia, Benning Potoa'e and Myles Bryant who played in that 2016 loss to USC, they remember full well the 'Black Out', the Husky Stadium crowd at night...all of it. And they want even more of that kind of energy and enthusiasm this weekend. Apparently for the Washington Huskies, it's how you start AND how you finish. While the third quarter wasn't anything to write home about, the Huskies did enough in the first half and fourth quarter to derail Hawaii's thoughts of beating a third-straight Pac-12 team. Washington won the game 52-20, but if the third quarter hadn't been played, the game would have finished 52-7. But they play the full 60 minutes, and the UW coaches and players talked about the hot start, the inability to come out of halftime strong, and eventually picking it up in the fourth quarter and putting the Rainbow Warriors out of commission. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Jack McCauley - spoke with Chris Petersen, Bush Hamdan, Jacob Eason, Hunter Bryant, Sean McGrew, Myles Bryant, and Keith Taylor about what went right for the Huskies out of the gate, the impact of picking UH Quarterback Cole McDonald three times had on the game, the lack of getting stuff done in the third quarter, and the strong finish to the game. The Huskies got back on the winning track on Saturday as they came out focused and ready to go in their 52-20 blowout win over Hawaii. The win gets Washington to 2-1 on the season, but more importantly, it seemed to be a gut-check for the team after their frustrating loss to Cal last weekend. On Saturday, Mother Nature sent wind but very little rain, at least during the game, and gave Husky fans the first taste of fall even though there are still seven days remaining before we official welcome in fall. The Husky offense put on a show early in the first half, jumping out to a 21-0 just under nine minutes into the game and Jacob Eason was a big reason why as he went 8 of 10 for 122 yards with two touchdowns -- one to tight end Hunter Bryant and one to freshman wideout Puka Nacua. He followed that up with his third and final touchdown of the day, a 37-yard strike to wideout Aaron Fuller who was well-covered, but still came up with the touchdown reception. On the defensive side of the ball, Myles Bryant was the star as he grabbed the first two interceptions of the season in the first half and he also contributed the only sack on the day as well as four tackles from his safety spot. The Husky coaches also got plenty of reps for some of the younger players including Richard Newton, a redshirt freshman tailback, who has seen his role grow the past couple of weeks. Newton had eight carries, three of which went for touchdowns, as the Huskies used his physicality inside the redzone to punch the ball across the line. The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Jack McCauley, and Scott Eklund -- all sat down after the game and talked about this big win, gave some of their thoughts on what they saw and looked forward to next week's game at BYU in the post-game podcast... The Washington defensive players and coaches were all on the same page Tuesday when talking about what went wrong Saturday night against California. It was missed tackles, it was trying to do more than their assignment, which creates creases and gaps that the Golden Bears exploited. Whether it was Jimmy Lake, Ikaika Malloe, Ryan Bowman, Elijah Molden, or Myles Bryant, they all talked about staying assignment sound, not doing more than their responsibility, and handling the fundamentals of their roles - namely tackling. In fact, Bowman thought a lack of tackling at times was the reason for pretty much every breakdown the defense had against Cal. And that is going to be of paramount importance this coming Saturday, as the Huskies host Hawaii, a run-and-shoot offense that features a quarterback in Cole McDonald that can also tuck the ball and go if he needs to. The Rainbow Warriors are already averaging 429 yards passing per game, and have taken two Pac-12 scalps in their first two games of the season in Arizona and Oregon State. Can they make it a third on Saturday? Not if Death Row has their way. And it wasn't all bad news on Tuesday. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - also spoke with specialists Peyton Henry and Joel Whitford. The special teams has been a bright spot so far through two games, and those guys intend to keep it that way. Whitford, in particular, has connections with the Hawaii specialists, as both their punter and placekicker are Australian. The UW senior punter shared a memorable story about him and Hawaii punter Stan Gaudion that needs to be heard to be believed. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Chris Petersen, Jimmy Lake, Nick Harris, and Myles Bryant react to a crazy 20-19 loss to Cal at Husky Stadium, which broke their 15-game home winning streak. It was crazy for a few reasons, but the biggest one was the two-hour and 39-minute extreme weather delay, something that's never happened at Husky Stadium in the modern era, to our knowledge. It was because of thunder and lightning in the area that had to safely pass through before play could continue. The UW coaches and players talked about that, as well as what went wrong when play finally resumed on the field. It was a tale of two halves, where UW came out strong and imposed themselves in all three phases, but Cal really took it to the Huskies in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 17-9 in the final two quarters, including a 17-yard go-ahead field goal with 8 seconds left in the game. On Tuesday, it was time for the defense to stand up, take stock of their performance against Eastern Washington last weekend, and also look ahead to their next challenge, the California Golden Bears. The defense gave up 274 total yards to the Eagles in their convincing 47-14 win. It hasn't always been that easy against Eastern. In 2011, it took a Desmond Trufant pick in the end zone to preserve a 30-27 win, and in Chris Petersen's first season at Washington (2014), the Huskies survived a 59-52 Wild West shootout. But this past Saturday, the only thing the defense didn't do was cause a turnover, and Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake, senior defensive back Myles Bryant, and junior defensive back Elijah Molden talked a lot about that. There was also a bust when true freshman Cameron Williams ran into junior cornerback Keith Taylor, allowing Eastern receiver Andrew Boston to run 64 yards untouched to the end zone. Lake, Bryant, and Molden talked about cleaning that up and how Williams will bounce back from that learning experience. Brandon Wellington talked about the inside linebackers group, as well as the budding play of redshirt freshman MJ Tafisi, who is quickly earning a reputation as a hard-hitting WIL. Pete Kwiatkowski is going to be using the tape of Laiatu Latu's safety for years to come. He talked about the true freshman, as well as other outside linebacker combinations, and how the depth is starting to come back to the point where you might see more 'hockey shift' substitutions along the defensive front. It's that time. The coaches know it, the players know, the fans know it. A week from now, the Washington Huskies will be putting on pads for the first time since January, knowing they'll be hitting someone else for a change. That 'someone else' is the Eastern Washington Eagles, with the game starting at Noon at Husky Stadium next Saturday. The players have had productive camps in April and August, but now it's time for the real football to begin. Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds and Scott Eklund spoke to Myles Bryant and Trey Adams, about that feeling of getting ready for 'real' football, how they've seen their respective sides prepare for the season, and what they're looking forward to seeing. The Husky defense has some attrition to overcome from last season. Mainstays like Greg Gaines and Jaylen Johnson along the defensive line as well as the linebackers and the secondary, which lost five full-time starters between both groups, has seen plenty of turnover, but due to versatility and some talented underclassmen, the Huskies like where they're at as they are just two weeks from the kickoff of the season. On Friday, the guys from Dawgman.com got the chance to check in with two players and a coach to see how strongly they feel about how things are coming along. Pete Kwiatkowski feels like he has a good group of players who have really improved and the feeling is that even though most people tend to focus on double-digit sacks, he's more worried about getting consistent pressure on the quarterback, getting him to move off of his spot and forcing things since the sacks will come. He said he wouldn't be showing up every day if he didn't think this group could get it done. Giving Kwiatkowski some sense of comfort is the presence of Benning Potoa'e who has moved inside. Potoa'e says he's working on getting his recognition down and that he's making progress on reading things, but Kwiatkowski said moving inside has allowed him to play freer where he doesn't have to worry about contain anymore like he did when he was playing on the edge. Senior defensive back Myles Bryant, the defacto leader of the deep patrol, likes where things are at and feels like he's been coached well enough since he arrived to be able to play either safety or nickel and he would be ready to go, but he also says he doesn't mind where he lines up as long he can compete. He also gave his thoughts on freshman Cameron Williams and what makes him so good at what he does even though he's still very young. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Even though Washington senior defensive back Myles Bryant is a southern California native, he has not spent much time by Hollywood. But he was right there Wednesday during Pac-12 Media Day, and Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds spoke to Bryant about being back home, his love of Los Angeles, playing in the Rose Bowl, being named to the first preseason All-Conference team, what he still has to prove as a player, his favorite play as a Husky, best Chris Petersen story, and a ton more.
