Ahh we joke, but that's how the news gets digested better. Every Monday, I'm joined by Jonathan Larsen who writes at TheFuckingNews.substack.com. Mondays are difficult enough, so I figure it's best to ease back into the new week with a bit of humor injected into the normal awfulness of it all. Today we'll have some actual funny observations about the news, something that was mostly missing from Saturday night's Nerd Prom (aka WH Correspondents Dinner). Then there's the lovely revelations about SD Gov Kristi Noem as a dog murderer, college campuses racked by protests, Bill Barr says the quiet hyprocritical parts out loud (nothing really new there) and not only will he vote for TFG if convicted, he admitted that TFG often spoke of having Americans killed. Nothing much to see here... move right along... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message

This weekend is the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, and Nussbaum previewed it in Politico Magazine in his piece "Trump's Jokes Killed DC's Sense of Humor." Original air date 26 April 2024.
It’s the event where journalists, who usually report on the White House, instead wine-and-dine with the president, political leaders, lobbyists and a who’s who of D.C. power. There’s a comedian, the president cracks jokes and it’s all live on CNN — what’s not to love? Well, everything

It's called "Nerd Prom" or the one day a year you say "what channel is CSPAN on?"...it's the White House Correspondent's Dinner. The party where politicians and the journalists who cover them come together to celebrate over food, drink and entertainment by a comic. But this year it's different. We talk to White House Correspondent's Association President OlivierKnox and find out why there's no comic at this year's party (it's NOT what you think), what would happen if Trump actually attends, debate the need for comedy in our political climate and why Knox requested videos of Larry the Cable Guy (seriously y'all send them to him :) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
They call it the "Nerd Prom", but the White House Correspondents Dinner is always one of the hottest tickets in our nation's capital. Dan Lothian, the host of Behind the Media, has been to quite a few of them, hanging out with Ashley Judd and other entertainment and news celebrities. This week, the featured comedienne Michelle Wolf made fun of just about everyone in politics and media, but did she go too far? Lots of media people are upset with some of her material. Dan and Jimmy Young talk about this on Behind the Media. Behind The Media is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and the CLNS Media Mobile App. You can follow the show on Twitter @LittleParkMedia using the hashtag #BehindTheMedia
Every year in December, a makeshift hangar at the NASA Ames Research Center pops up for one night, transforming the austere airfield into a glitzy, paparazzi'd, black velvet-roped Nerd Prom. At the Breakthrough Prizes—where on December 3, a total of $22 million was handed out to pioneers in math, physics, and the life sciences—researchers traded lab coats and latex gloves for floor-length gowns and bow-tied tuxedos.

On this week's episode, we're joined by Buzzfeed's Evan McMorris-Santoro to take a quick break from the trail and bring you back to DC, just in time for the infamous White House Correspondents Association Dinner (or Nerd Prom, a nickname Swin loves). After that, we talk about the changing face of political fundraising, and we take a look at how that fundraising is playing out among Hollywood celebs. Be prepared for insight, curiosity, a healthy dose of skepticism and, as always, some profanity from Scripps politics reporter Miranda Green, Independent Journal Review politics editor Justin Green and Asawin Suebsaeng of the Daily Beast.

When someone asks what the most important event in Washington is every year, you’d hope that the answer would involve a key piece of civic action or an instance of Americans making their voices heard. In reality, D.C’s biggest event is an altogether different affair - a weeklong extravaganza of lavish parties where journalists rub shoulders with the very people they’re supposed to hold accountable. It all leads up to one night in particular, the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, or as it has come to be known within insider circles — Nerd Prom. As a reporter for Politico, Patrick Gavin used to cover those insiders. Now, after 10 years of covering the dinner and Washington politics he’s made a documentary about the correspondents dinner, “Nerd Prom: Inside Washington’s Wildest Week”. On this week’s podcast, DecodeDC goes inside Nerd Prom with Gavin to figure out what the dinner is really for. Host Andrea Seabrook and producer Rachel Quester take you to the film’s premiere and speak with Gavin about the event he says Washington doesn’t want you to see.
We went to SDCC, y'all! It's our very special Nerd Prom episode: recap, news, and walkin' the floor. Recorded 7.29.14 Kevin Smith's new movie, Tusk, made its trailer debut. How about Batman vs. Superman sneak peek? We're excited for Outlander (but not about having to get Starz to watch). There's a new Hobbit trailer...and this photo happened. The Walking Dead gang is back together. And fucking with the wrong people. One of the best things we saw was the Mad Max teaser! And we're pleased to see the SDCC community taking harassment seriously. Let nerds be nerds, yo. And finally, we are beyond excited for the gorgeous Book of Life trailer!
