In this episode Ian & AL remember one of the magical nights of Irish boxing - Bernard Dunne v Ricardo Cordoba - incredibly 16 years ago this week! The lads also look back over TJ Doheny v Nick Ball & the controversy that followed, Mick Conlan's comeback & future plans aswell as all the fights from Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick's Day. We look back over the phenomenal career of one of boxing's greatest EVER, George Foreman who passed away recently after a career that saw him fight Muhammad Ali, Joe Fraizer, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Gerry Cooney, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, Jimmy Young, Axel Schultz & Michael Moorer. A total of 76 wins and 5 losses.
George Foreman gave us a masterclass in resilience, on never giving up. His pivots and comebacks from defeat were legendary. He was a force of nature and one of the greatest boxers, salesmen and personalities the world has ever known. His inspirational story matters to us because one of the most critical mental disciplines for sales professionals is resilience. Foreman's "In the Mud" Moment The George Foreman most of us remember, the man with the big charismatic smile selling grills on TV, was a far cry from the young man growing up in poverty in Houston's Fifth Ward, where lunch was often a mayonnaise sandwich. As a teenager, George was an angry, mean bully who stole from kids at school and was shoplifting and mugging his way through his neighborhood. He was living on the edge, one arrest away from landing in a jail cell and potentially a life behind bars. One night, he was lying flat on his face in stinking mud, hiding from the police, when it hit him like a left hook that he was going nowhere like this. It was a moment of truth that changed the trajectory of his life. Lying there covered in filth, he made a promise to himself to change his path. He realized that if he wanted to avoid going nowhere, he had to make a massive mindset shift. He enrolled in the Job Corps—a federal program that helps disadvantaged youth pick up real life skills—and soon after discovered boxing. And from that moment on, he replaced petty crime with gloves, replaced street fights with disciplined training, replaced despair with a sense of purpose. This type of mindset shift is exactly what resilience is about. Sometimes you've got to face the fact that your old excuses, old habits, or old environment aren't working for you anymore. And when you decide to do something different—really decide—you set the stage for everything else that follows. That stinking mud moment is where you get real about your situation. It's where you decide that you've had enough and realize that the change you are looking for can only be found inside yourself because that's where resilience comes from. Developing Resilience in the Face of Devastating Defeat Once George got serious about boxing, he rocketed to stardom. He won gold in the 1968 Olympics, then tore through the heavyweight division. In one of his most famous fights, he defeated Joe Frazier in just two rounds, creating the iconic moment when Howard Cosell screams, “Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier!” Foreman emerged from that fight as a heavyweight wrecking ball, the unstoppable champion of the world. Then, he ran into a wall called Muhammad Ali. Millions of people tuned in to watch Foreman and Ali battle it out in what was hyped as the “Rumble in the Jungle.” Going into the fight, Foreman was the overwhelming favorite. But it was his overconfidence that lulled him into Ali's famous rope-a-dope strategy. This led to a crushing and embarrassing defeat. Ali knocked Foreman out in the eighth round, shocking the world and pulling off the upset of the century. Foreman was humiliated on the global stage. In that moment, he went from being the hardest hitting, baddest man on the planet to an also-ran. Sales and life can be the same way. You might have soared for months, hitting every goal. Then the bottom falls out. The real test isn't whether you can ride success, but whether you can respond to defeat with resilience. The real question is, will you pick yourself up and make a comeback or fold up like a cheap lawn chair and quit. Will your failure become a tattoo or temporary bruise? Retreat and Reinvention — The Next Pivot After that loss to Ali, Foreman was devastated. But he continued fighting until at the age of 28, he had a near death experience in Puerto Rico following a loss to Jimmy Young. It was one more lapse into overconfidence in which Foreman failed to prepare for the fight and was taken down by yet another underdog.
pWotD Episode 2881: George Foreman Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 1,670,137 views on Saturday, 22 March 2025 our article of the day is George Foreman.George Edward Foreman (January 10, 1949 – March 21, 2025) was an American professional boxer, businessman, minister, and author. In boxing, he competed between 1967 and 1997, and was nicknamed "Big George". He was a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. He is the namesake of the George Foreman Grill. After a troubled childhood, Foreman took up amateur boxing and won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Having turned professional the next year, he won the world heavyweight title with a stunning second-round knockout of the then-undefeated Joe Frazier in 1973. He defended the belt twice before suffering his first professional loss to Muhammad Ali in the Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. Unable to secure another title opportunity, Foreman retired after a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977.Following what he referred to as a born again experience, Foreman became an ordained Christian minister. Ten years later he announced a comeback, and in 1994 at age 45 won the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championship titles by knocking out 26-year-old Michael Moorer. He dropped the WBA belt rather than face his mandatory title defense soon after, and following a single successful title defense against Axel Schulz, Foreman relinquished his IBF title as well on June 28, 1995. At 46 years and 169 days old, he was the oldest world heavyweight champion in history. Foreman was the oldest to ever win the world heavyweight boxing championship of major honors and the second-oldest in any weight class after Bernard Hopkins (at light heavyweight). He retired in 1997 at the age of 48, with a final record of 76 wins (68 knockouts) and 5 losses, one of the famous losses coming at the hands of Muhammad Ali who hit him with a lightning fast 1-2 combination which was “the fastest punch” Foreman had ever seen.Foreman was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing Hall of Fame. The International Boxing Research Organization rates Foreman as the eighth-greatest heavyweight of all time. In 2002, he was named one of the 25 greatest fighters of the past 80 years by The Ring. The Ring ranked him as the ninth-greatest puncher of all time. He was a ringside analyst for HBO's boxing coverage for 12 years until 2004. Outside boxing, Foreman was a successful entrepreneur and known for his promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold more than 100 million units worldwide by 2011. In 1999, he sold the commercial rights to the grill for $138 million. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:50 UTC on Sunday, 23 March 2025.For the full current version of the article, see George Foreman on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Kajal.

This is a breaking news edition of In The Weeds with Jimmy Young. Joined by the political director of NORML is Washington DC Morgan Fox. More than 54% of the votes cast paved the way for another state to go legal. Now what?
In 1973, Oregon was the first state in the union to decriminalize cannabis, in 2014 they became the fourth to legalize it, but now that it's an open adult use market, it's been a struggle to grow a business let alone grow the plant. Now with the merger of two business associations, the Oregon Cannabis Association (OCA) and the Cannabis Industry Alliance of Oregon (CIAO), Oregon advocates are hopeful this will be the first step towards positive economic change. Marianne Cursetjee of Alibi, Myron Chadowitz of cannassentials.net, and Mike Getlin of Nectar markets join In the Weeds host Jimmy Young
There are few people in the cannabis industry who can match the passion and energy of Gary George from New Jersey hosting the biggest cannabis business trade shows in person an on line. Oct. 5-6 is the next one in Newark, NJ. Gary and Jimmy touch on quite a few topics facing businesses in the cannabis industry. Gary calls himself a digital marketing ninja after 20 years of creating success marketing strategy.
Meet the Pill Man, the Beard Brothers, Medible Xtracts, and the Onehitoneda guy, PCM founder Jimmy Young took in this five year old cannabis celebration for the first time at the Spencer Fairgrounds in Spencer Massachusetts.
In a special edition of my podcast this week, Craig Braddick has interviewed me to talk about growing up in the 1980s with Radio 1 and then with Radio 2 into the 90s and beyond, and how being a contestant on Blockbusters guided me towards my own broadcasting career. I talk about the significance of 1981 – the year I started listening to Radio 1 – and Bucks Fizz winning Eurovision and how, during my schooldays, the charts on a Sunday mattered in the school playground. We also talk about whether the presenters of the day really represented what was going on in the wider world and whether there was a patriarchal streak to broadcasting in that era. I talk about who my favourite presenters were in those days, including the impact of Adrian John who was a presenter in the 1980s who really understood his audience. We talk about my childhood diary entries and what it contains about my radio interests, and how I used to include information about the DJ and the artists who were on Top of the Pops each week. We also talk about DJ handovers both on radio and on TOTP, and of the presenters who perhaps didn't always get on (famously Tony Blackburn and John Peel). We reflect on whether for listeners there is a particular ‘golden era' and whether some of the Radio 1 DJs in the 80s thought that they were more important than the music, and we refer to the way some presenters were delegated. We talk about the way they were caricatured in the Smashie and Nicey mode. We then move on to discuss what happened with Radio 2's evolution in the 1980s and how different the station was in those days from today, and how David Hamilton's perceptions of the station in the 80s and now are diametrically opposite. I talk about how much I enjoyed the guests on Gloria Hunniford's show on Radio 2 in the afternoons in the early 90s when I was at university. I refer to the line between education and entertainment as being blurred and how those in-depth conversations were an inspiration for my Nostalgia podcast. We talk about Jimmy Young's news and current affairs career and how the iconic JY was perhaps in some ways evoking a different era. We then speak about my experience of appearing as a contestant on Blockbusters and of meeting Bob Holness, and how it came as a surprise to my school peers that I got on the show in the first place. Craig askes me about my radio heroes, and I talk about Ed Stewart and how he died before he had a chance to read what I had written about him in a book I wrote about Christmas. We refer to Stewpot's radio personality and whether he would have fitted a different sort of genre of broadcasting. I reflect, too, on the female presenters who have influenced me, including Sarah Kennedy, and the contrast in broadcasting style with Chris Evans. I tell Craig about how I tend to gravitate to more introverted presenters and how radio and university teaching cross over in unexpected ways. Then, at the end of the interview Craig asks me what in ten years' time I think I am going to be listening to on the radio.
On In The Weeds with Jimmy Young this week, @Scott Jordan of the Alternative Finance Network. While the world sees doom and gloom in the cannabis industry, prices plummeting, interest rates rising, no access to capital, you won't get that negativity from Scott. If you are in the lending business, things are booming! Just ask Scott Jordan of the Alternative Finance Network. He's been doing deals in this space for years, and now it's just a bit more challenging with rising interest rates and traditional banks failing in the US from coast to coast.
You have to give cannabis attorneys credit, most of them want you to know that they are cool and can relate to those who are enlightened by this plant medicine. Jeffrey Hoffman from New York City is one of them. Even his Linked In Profile is an image of him with his beloved New York Yankees hat, and a joint in his mouth! He calls himself a NY City cannabis insider, and he hosts a podcast show called Ask me Anything about Cannabis? On In the Weeds with JImmy Young, they talk about the changes in the New York state regulations, SAFE Banking, and a whole bunch of other issues including the legalization question.
In this episode, we are replaying our very first episode for a very special reason. The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a race, but an opportunity to honor and remember the 343 #FDNY members who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. Fire service members across the United States convene in the high-rise buidings to climb 110 stories as a tribute to their fallen brothers. This past week during the FDIC Convention at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jimmy Young, who battled cancer and just had shoulder surgery, courageously finished the stair climb with his brothers and sisters from WorldWide Peer Support waiting for him at the finish. Jimmy, this is for you.Produced by https://MyPodcast.Media

They might have been 3000 miles away from their base in the Emerald Trianble's Humboldt County, but Wendy Kornberg of Sunnabis Farms, and James Beurer from Organic Cultivators seem right at home in Massachusetts. They were in town as the organizers for the second annual Super Natural Organic Conference in Sturbridge Massachusetts this past weekend where a dream team of natural organic growers shared their knowledge with a group of like minded horticulturalists. Pro Cannabis Media was a proud sponsor of this event which is all about farming all sorts of plants, vegetables, and of course cannabis. On In The Weeds with Jimmy Young, this week, the PCM Founder sat down with both of the organizers for this great event.

Totaling over $1 billion in cannabis sales so far this year, the Massachusetts cannabis market is growing larger than more legacy markets in the US such as Washington and Oregon. This highly competitive market, with over 420 retail licenses issued so far and more pending, offers an additional challenge to retailers and brands: vertical integration. Massachusetts is by far one of the most vertically integrated markets in the US, which translates into a high level of brand consolidation in the market. The Massachusetts cannabis market has many trends that set this market apart from others in the US. For example, in recent months, many markets have been experiencing declining growth rates as a result of a post-pandemic market correction. In Massachusetts however, sales totaled $132M in July 2022, a 4% increase from July 2021. The Massachusetts cannabis market is also highly vertically integrated compared to other US markets. Because of this, Massachusetts has the most brand consolidation among other cannabis markets, with more than 2/3 of total sales coming from the top 10 brands. While the consumer landscape in Massachusetts is fairly similar to the rest of the US, there is a slightly higher proportion of Generation X consumers and younger Female consumers participating in the Massachusetts cannabis market compared to other markets in the US.In this report we take a close look at the Massachusetts cannabis market, exploring cannabis sales growth, product categories, brand consolidation in the market, demographics, and more.Episode 1043 The #TalkingHedge looks at Headset's data with Jimmy Young of Pro Cannabis Media…#CannabisIndustry #CannabisData #CannabisAnalytics #CannabisSalesDatahttps://youtu.be/WYRIjVVpPVc

Trade shows took a beating during the covid pandemic, and now they are back in full force. The New England Cannabis Conventions run by Marc Shepard and staff has got the formula down to a science. Coming off their first successful one in New York state on August 26-27 in Albany, they head to Atlantic City NJ on September 9-10.
Throughout history, the cannabis plant has been used medicinally and vilified in the USA for . being a schedule 1 drug according to the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. Phil Lamy is a Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Castleton University of Vermont. A nationally recognized educator on sociology and anthropology is teaching a Sociology of Cannabis course this semester, and this is another sign of normalization in the cannabis legal era. This week he's on In The Weeds with Jimmy Young…
1995, sounds like a long time ago, it should especially when you know the industry Jon Napoli has been operating in since that time. He is the founder of the Hempest, one of the nation's longest running cannabis businesses in the world and carries the largest selection of hemp gear on the planet at Hempest.com. Hemp or THC Cannabis is the plant that is causing a disruption in the agrarian world that could have been avoided over 80 years ago in the US when cannabis prohibition started and the plant became a victim of race, status, and power. The Boston Gardner is where you will find Jon just about every day of the week, and now as an entrepreneur is awaiting to commence operations at a new adult use dispensary in Quincy Massachusetts. This week he's a guest on IN The Weeds with JImmy Young.
Since the introduction of the CAOA, the focus on legalization efforts has highlighted the paradoxical prohibited status of the plant.
