Text us and say hello! In episode 34 of Backwards Compatible, we kick off 2025 with a slapshot into the world of NHL Hitz 2003! Admittedly, I got my wires crossed at the start and thought we were covering Hitz 2002 instead—leading to a scramble to redo my notes mid-show—but everything came together in the end for an epic discussion.Lou and I dive into what made NHL Hitz 2003 a standout arcade sports title, from its over-the-top action to its perfect balance of chaos and hockey fundamentals. We also take a broader look at the state of the NHL in the early 2000s, with a generation of legendary players like Brian Leetch and Mark Messier nearing the end of their careers, but still making their presence felt in this game. The episode wouldn't be complete without revisiting our favorite ongoing debate: arcade sports games vs. simulation games. While Lou appreciates the depth of sims, I remain firmly on Team Arcade, and NHL Hitz 2003 is the perfect example of why. It's fast, fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously—exactly how I like my sports games. So grab your controller, lace up your skates, and join us as we break down one of the most exciting hockey games ever made!Support the showWe've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Hundreds and hundreds of you have been asking for us to talk NFL Blitz, and seeing as it won our Patreon Poll, I guess it's time. I'd never played a Blitz before, so I was stoked to fire this up and see what it's all about! I'll warn you right now. I like football. I watch it, I play Fantasy, I cheer for the Broncos (I know...). But I'm not the most knowledgeable football guy. I only got into the sport as an adult, and I have very little experience with football video games. That said, you could say the same for basketball, and I fucking LOVED NBA Jam. So I was hoping Blitz would hit me in the same way and I'd fall in love again. I'm not sure I'd go that far with Blitz, but friends with benefits is fine by me. This is a good time. My guest Brad grew up playing the OG NFL Blitz cabinet, and I've spent the past couple weeks screaming at fumbles in NFL Blitz 2000 for the PlayStation. We put our heads together and drew up a play to talk about what makes this game so fun, what irritates us about it, and why it definitely needs to be played with another person. And before a "random" fumble completely fucks us over, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I'd consider reviewing more bad games (intentionally). What's a better option for starting a kid out with retro gaming: Nintendo Switch Online or an NES Classic? And what CDs did we rip onto our Xbox and Xbox 360s back in the day? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Midway sports franchises: Ready 2 Rumble, NHL Hitz, and MLB Slugfest. Learn more about your ad choices. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! it's time to talk about NHL Hitz, one of the most unique, lasting sports game series of all time. With only three entries and existing from 2002-2004 Hitz staying power on the heavily saturated sports video game scene of the early 2000s was not to be but it's legacy has certainly endured. With expertly crafted gameplay, animations, and so many features, the Hitz series embodied the perfect arcade sports game. With stellar soundtracks featuring Limp Bizkit, Powerman 5000, Hoobastank and of course the Zambonis, Hitz perfectly captured the sounds of the era. Mike & Neil bring on friend of the show Marty as well as Minds Behind the Sports Games author Patrick Hickey Jr. to break down why these games are still so much fun to play today and of course mention Rollin' at least 10 times.

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame NBA Jam tackled our Patreon Poll a couple months ago, and people were shocked to find out that I've...never...played it...before. Seriously. People have been yelling at me for weeks. But I'm remedied that. I may not know the players, the lingo, or the rules, but I know a good game when I see one. And NBA Jam is the fucking. Shit. My buddy Brad agrees, and we're all up in the rim talking about one of the greatest sports games ever made this week. And before we pass the rock, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we discusss whether or not Sony is making a mistake putting their exclusives on PC. If I had to set a speed-run record for any game, what would I pick? And aside from blowing in the cartridge, what did we do to make our old games work? Welcome back to the Not Another Sports Podcast! We start the show off with an update on our NHL Hitz project for our YouTube Channel. Then we go into the 1st half of the show where we dive into an XFL Season review. We discuss growing pains for next season, if the ratings decline is something to worry about, and we talk about where we believe the on field play is ranked at. In the 2nd half we talk about the 6 Cities that have a franchise in all but one of the major sports leagues. We get into the names we would give the teams based on their cities if a hypothetical team were to exist. Some of the team names are historical team names that had already existed in some of the cities, and some were ones we just made up. In the second period we discuss Tom Brady retiring again, we also talk about his career as a whole, and the reported $375 Million offer from Fox Sports for him to work as an analyst. We also talk about Robert Kraft wanting him to sign a one day deal to retire a Patriot, and our thoughts on that. Welcome back to The Not Another Sports Podcast! This week we start off hot by diving into the news of the week with Minor League Baseball (MiLB) voting to Unionize. We discuss how this can improve the lives of minor league players. We talk about the current food stipend for players on the road, how Minor League Baseball is an investment into the future of Major League Baseball (MLB). In the second period we get into some MLB's rule changes for 2023, and specifically the implementation of a pitch clock. It leads to a classic rant from Jason about MLB's insistence on trying to attract a fan that is not interested in watching baseball, his thoughts on city connect jerseys, and what he thinks MLB should focus on to draw new fans. The third period is a look back at one of the most fun and possibly the best NHL game of all time, NHL Hitz 2003. Join us as we reminisce, laugh, and share stories of times playing this game, and why we think it is a stand out game that needs to be brought back. A passionate transfer student from Cerritos College eager to become the future NHL Commissioner. My purpose for my podcasts is to inform people about all hockey news happening throughout the United States, but mostly here in California. A lot of people aren't knowledgeable about this sport, so I want to change that. Not only do I have a passion for hockey, but I also incorporate hit songs from the 1990's, 2000's and today. So, “hitz on ice and hitz music on the air!”
All talk about the National Hockey League and hit songs from the past three decades and today! Live from CSU Dominguez Hills.

Mapping: From Kevin @ks21_ 7:05 - You’re the new GM in Seattle. Both Artemi Panarin & Mat Barzal can be your new face of the Kraken. Who do you pick & why? From Ryan @rfueg31: 11:45 - Lou Lamoriello was the GM of Toronto for almost 3 years, and in that process it seemed as though his primary reason for being in Toronto in the first place was to groom Kyle Dubas into his current role. I know his son is the current assistant GM, so is what he did with Toronto something similar to what Lou Lamoriello is doing with the Islanders now, or do you think he is fully invested into being the Islanders GM for as long as he possibly can be? From Joe @joebraun43: 18:15 - How do you see the goalie situation playing out next season? Will Sorokin play right away or ride the bench and learn from Varlamov? Do you think he is the generational goalie that we were promised back in the Rick DiPietro days? From Stef @StefStefStefG: 28:10 - Realistically with the rebuild and everything, when do you think the rangers will have a legitimate playoff run/Cup win? From Jay @bigjayshaw99: 39:00 - Where do you think the Islanders and Rangers will finish in the standings this upcoming season? How deep of a playoff run will the respective teams make? (if you have the teams going to the playoffs) From Josh @1030jem: 50:40 - How do you guys feel about the overall ratings of the players in NHL 21 and if EA did a good job From Pat @patrickmgascon: 53:50 - Favorite logo all time? From Justin @JustinSousa99: 55:30 - Where does Shea Theodore rank among defenseman across the NHL? From Connor @condonlon: 57:00 - Best player on the Kraken? LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Welcome to the Arcade Sports episode where we'll be covering twenty (wow!) different games, mostly from Midway and EA Sports BIG and talking about the unique era that these companies competed in. From NHL Hitz to Backyard Baseball, to NFL, FIFA, and NBA Street, we bring you all the ridiculous arcade action and Limp Bizkit that you've been craving since '03. We're joined by friends of the show Marty Thompson, Harrison Tim, as well as newcomers Brian Tong and Brayden Kerr to dicuss our memories of these games and come to the sad conclusion that they'll probably never be made again. Since there are 20 titles to read the Back of the Case of, Neil will be reading them all at the beginning so our regularly scheduled programming will begin at 7:33 if you feel like skipping ahead.
On this episode of the DNVR Gaming Podcast, Drew, AJ, and Rudo review an old sports game and a new one, taking a look back at the classic NHL Hitz franchise before diving into the newest edition of MLB The Show.
