From Sony's dynamic pricing drama to Xbox's Project Helix and a heated console‑war showdown, The Game Deflators tackle the week's biggest gaming battles. This week on The Game Deflators, John and Ryan bring a mix of pickups, industry news, rumors, and retro gaming heat. The episode kicks off with recent game pickups and collectible finds, including some unexpected retro scores and additions to the shelf. From there, the guys dive into their current gaming sessions, sharing progress updates and the titles that have been dominating their playtime. The conversation shifts into Lego and gaming crossovers, including the newly surfaced Mario miniature and the rumored Lego PlayStation 1 set that has collectors buzzing. Whether it's legit or just another internet fever dream, the guys break down why this rumor has so much traction. Next, the crew turns to Microsoft's next‑generation Xbox initiative, Project Helix. Rather than dissecting technical specs, John and Ryan focus on the broader implications — how Helix fits into Microsoft's evolving ecosystem strategy, what it signals for the future of Xbox hardware, and why the industry is paying close attention. That naturally leads into a spirited discussion on the Console Wars, comparing the shifting dynamics between Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. With each platform carving out a different identity, the guys explore where the competition is heating up and where the lines are starting to blur. The episode then pivots to Sony's newly uncovered dynamic pricing tests, where PlayStation Store users across multiple regions are seeing different prices for the same games. The hosts unpack what this A/B testing could mean for digital storefronts, consumer trust, and the future of game pricing. Finally, the Inflation Deflation Challenge returns with a look at Cool Spot, the 7UP mascot platformer that's equal parts nostalgia and oddity. John and Ryan revisit the game's charm, gameplay, and current market value to determine whether this retro collectible is inflating or deflating in today's market.   00:00 Intro 02:28 Recent Game Pickups and Collectibles 12:11 Current Gaming Sessions and Progress 17:52 Lego and Gaming Updates: Mario Miniature and LEgo PS1 27:15 Microsoft's Next Generation Xbox Insights 30:09 The Console Wars: Xbox vs. PlayStation vs. Steam 35:24 Sony Dynamic Pricing in Gaming: A New Approach 49:35 Inflation Deflation Challenge: Cool Spot Review   Find us on TheGameDeflators.com Twitter - www.twitter.com/GameDeflators Facebook - www.facebook.com/TheGameDeflators Instagram - www.instagram.com/thegamedeflators   The views and opinions expressed on this channel are solely those of the author. TCW Podcast Episode 251 - Virgin Games   As a companion piece to our Mastertronic episode, we look at the rise and fall of Virgin Games. Beginning with Richard Branson's mail-order record business and the success of Virgin Records, the company expanded into games under executive Nick Alexander, whose interest in the industry led to the creation of a Virgin gaming subsidiary. Early successes included the Dan Dare series and computer adaptations of board games. In 1987 Virgin took a stake in Mastertronic, and in 1988 fully acquired the company, gaining both its budget software business and its role in the SEGA Master System launch. From there Virgin Games developed into two distinct arms. In Europe, the company focused on distribution, bringing major publishers and licenses into the region. In the United States, Virgin built on Mastertronic's development studio, centering on strong talent and overlooked licenses, producing titles such as Spot, Cool Spot, Global Gladiators, and later major Disney games including Aladdin and The Lion King. On PC, the company found success with The 7th Guest and through the acquisition of Westwood Studios, gaining Command and Conquer. Virgin Games also had a hand in publishing Dune and Dune II. In the mid-1990s the Virgin Group began seeking a buyer, leading to Blockbuster's acquisition of Virgin Interactive, which soon placed the company under Viacom following the Paramount merger. Heavy corporate debt and shifting priorities resulted in the sale of Westwood to Electronic Arts. What remained was largely a European distribution business that later entered an agreement with Interplay and was ultimately acquired by Titus Interactive. After the collapse of the dot-com bubble, mounting debt forced Titus to shutter the company, and in 2005 Virgin Interactive quietly disappeared   TCW 105 - The Big Voice of Magnavox: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-big-voice-of-magnavox/ TCW 106 - The Small Voice of Magnavox: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-small-voice-of-magnavox/ TCW 026 - The Magnavox Odyssey: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-magnavox-odyssey/ TCW 027 - The Magnavox Patent Lawsuits: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-magnavox-patent-lawsuits-friday-september-16-2016-1003-am/ Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (Live BBC 1973): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbYQYOM66MA Dan Dare - Pilot of the Future (ZX Spectrum): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUEDOu5ewIQ Dan Dare II - Mekons` Revenge (ZX Spectrum): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lheo_ao8K4 Dan Dare III - The Escape (Amiga): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK62NSaE75s Monopoly - Virgin Games (DOS): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un6iagpCwWw Spot - The Video Game (NES): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Ezmf6z3kM 7-Up Spot Commercials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubNTMHqz6_c TCW 229 - US Gold: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/us-gold/ TCW 023 - The Complete Tetris Story: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-complete-tetris-story/ Lure of the Temptress (Amiga): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwSS5zA74jQ Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker (Amiga): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Pr3IsnqxGs Cannon Fodder (Amiga): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFP8WUrBVHc Previous High Scores C&C Ad: https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolRidiculous/comments/x1k61n/could_you_even_imagine_if_westwood_studios/ Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (NES): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_1AGDZiLVY Robin Hood Men in Tights - English Accent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9tEH7iWOyk Global Gladiators (Genesis): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy9_-iEdXAA Cool Spot (Genesis): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTROI2ODRM4 Aladin (Genesis): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngqx0rq7ACg The Jungle Book (Genesis): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BivK2swrtqM Aladin (SNES): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9m2gAuWkOY The Lion King (Genesis): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-U4RObki-k TCW 194 - The 7th Guest: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-7th-guest/ The 7th Guest (PC): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Z-Q5KVTyI The Legend of Kyrandia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO6BE4HOjnM TCW 208 - Two Dunes the Battle for Arrakis: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/two-dunes-the-battle-for-arrakis/ TCW 082 - An Unlikely Pairing of Siliwood: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/an-unlikely-pairing-of-siliwood/ TCW 064 - The Rise and Fall of Infogrames Part 1: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/rise-and-fall-of-infogrames-part-1/ TCW 065 - The Rise and Fall of Infogrames Part 2: https://podcast.theycreateworlds.com/e/the-rise-and-fall-of-infogrames-part-2/   New episodes are on the 1st and 15th of every month!   TCW Email: feedback@theycreateworlds.com  Twitter: @tcwpodcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theycreateworlds Alex's Video Game History Blog: http://videogamehistorian.wordpress.com Alex's book, published Dec 2019, is available at CRC Press and at major on-line retailers: http://bit.ly/TCWBOOK1     Intro Music: Josh Woodward - Airplane Mode -  Music - "Airplane Mode" by Josh Woodward. Monday morning live with Natasa Denman featuring one of her amazing authors, Claire White Claire is a trained and Registered General and Obstetric Nurse in Timaru, New Zealand. Returning to French Polynesia, she was a Registered Nurse in a cosmetic surgeon's clinic saving for travels. Born in Leeston, New Zealand, she was immersed in the local farming community with hardworking and generously community-minded parents who continue to serve others. Claire was told by many to write about her adventurous life on land, sea, and air as she has a zesty, enthusiastic passion for life. Embracing her time as a teenage exchange student in French Polynesia profoundly influenced her life. Immersed in the vibrant culture, she found herself drawn to the brave, adventurous yachties who fearlessly explored distant shores, inspiring her own sense of adventure. As a young bride in Western Australia's outback Derby, she started her own Girl Guide Company and learned to fly and paint. However, due to her marital status, she was not able to continue as a nurse. She was instrumental in changing this discriminatory judgment of others. Saddened by leaving the Kimberley region for Darwin, she faced the challenges with courage. In Darwin, she thrived in Accident and Emergency Nursing, enjoyed camping in Kakadu, and led Brownies. She pursued diverse interests like music, midwifery, and sailing while overcoming fears, performing on the piano at The Cool Spot and embracing singlehood anew. Claire embodies compassion and resilience, consistently exceeding expectations in her work. She acquired expertise in hyperbaric medicine, providing care for divers with the bends, patients with carbon monoxide poisoning, and those with anaerobic non-healing wounds. Her dedication led her to attend a hyperbaric medicine conference in Baltimore, USA. Through house minding, she financed a year of travels, exploring destinations such as Tahiti, Europe, the USA, and Canada. Using frequent flyer points, Claire returned to Darwin for her fifth International Yacht Race combining a flotilla of the world's majestic Tall Ships with 50-year celebrations for Indonesia's independence from Dutch rule. Between international yacht races, Cairns to Papua New Guinea and Darwin to Indonesia, she met Errol whilst wearing a Can-Can outfit at Darwin Sailing Club. She gained her radio operator's license, and assisted with twice daily position checks for the next three annual Darwin to Ambon Indonesia yacht races until civil unrest caused them to voyage the Kimberley for about 20 years. Denying Parkinson's Disease for years, now after a reverse sea-change for safety, Claire offers creativity through yoga, piano singalongs, and ukulele jams as they passionately raise awareness and funds for research and a cure. 3 Takeaways: 1. Proactivity - How life's experiences and attitudes can shape us into who we are. If it is to be, it is up to me. 2. Hope, help and inspiration for those dealing with Parkinson's from the perspectives of the sufferer, spouse/family member, carer, nurse and first mate. 3. Golden Rule - Life is full of challenges, and it's how we react and navigate that teaches us. Do not write funny bad reviews on yelp or google or furnished finder. Do not send pipe bombs or bomb threats to his house or any of his listed properties. I mean it! If you do any of these things you will be banned from podcasts forever. Thank you enjoy the show. Looking at rentals is really fun cuz real estate agents and property managers are some of the most redacted and oblivious people you have to trust with your livelihood. Recently I had scheduled to see a place and the guy no showed, no contact I messaged and emailed him multiple times and 3 days later he texted "apologies out of town." He then proceeds to try to reschedule immediately for the next day at 11am I say can we do 2pm he says no we can't let's do Monday 2pm I say okay Monday 2pm he says great I say great and then he says actually we can do tomorrow Friday 2pm i say perfect cool then Friday at 11am he says you must think we're crazy but we're actually just short-handed can you do monday 2pm and then i showed up today Monday at 2pm and the guy is 10 minutes late, I text the guy and he said "oh Philip's not there?" Philip the minion shows up within 1 minute of me texting, Philip says haha it's good thing our office is right around the corner and he points to a building literally right behind the rental and gives me the dorkiest fcking smile and I want to drown Philip in a puddle. We go to open the door and he doesn't have the right keypad code. I stand around in the rain for about 5 minutes while he calls and texts people and then he's like oh we can just try the other side of the duplex and I asked if the other side is the same layout and price and furnishings and he said no so I said no and so we sat in the rain for another 5 minutes and he finally gets the code and we go in. It looks like the last tenant had just left, all the lights and tvs are on and trash cans full, poop splatters on the toilet and it smells like cat piss. Despite this, I message the property manager that I am interested and would like to move forward with my application and he likes my message and says nothing else. $1400/month. a few years ago, a property manager was stunned that I requested to inspect the house before signing a legal document that said we conducted an inspection and told me I was the first person to ever do so. He addressed me as "Gay bro" in a text and it was never acknowledged $1754/month 440 sq feet #italiano #realestateagent #propertymanagement When you were investing in real estate, I studied the blade. When you were having open houses, I mastered the blockchain. While you wasted your days at the bank in pursuit of equity, I cultivated inner strength. And now that the world is on fire and the barbarians are at the gate you have the audacity to come to me for rent.   It's free! Real estate! We're giving you land! It's free. We're giving you a house. It's real estate. Free. It's a free house for you, Jim. This is free real estate! You gotta bring furniture, but the house is free! Two bedrooms, no rugs. It's free! This episode, we tried very hard to follow overlord Tim's decree to not talk about poopies and peepees, so you'll have to hear how well we did there.  Rankings continue to dominate our lives as we run the collective rule over the second batch of games from Issue 4 of the magazine, which covered 1993. Today, Link and Emmy play a port of an arcade brawler from 1991 based on the Avengers. Will this be as good as other licensed arcade brawlers from the same era (like TMNT, The Simpsons, and X-Men)? Well... You'll just have to listen and find out. Also, is it possible that a game ostensibly built as a playable commercial for a soft drink go beyond what is normally required of product placement and be an amazing game in its own right? Well... we have the answer for you. Listen and find out. And finally, what's going on with the golfing robot? I can't actually promise any definitive answers to that one. But we'll have fun talking about it anyway. It's an episode full of surprises, as we discuss Mecarobot Golf, Captain America and the Avengers, and Cool Spot. I've recorded over 500 podcasts since I launched this show, and I sleep easy at night knowing that if I ever erase them (which, I mean, is fairly likely. You know how I am with computers...), I have a backup, thanks to folks over at Backblaze!   They offer unlimited backups for both PCs and Macs for just $7/month! And it's super easy to do, even I was able to figure it out! You can get a full-feature 15 day trial (with no credit card required!) at Backblaze.com/RTG. Check 'em out!   We've been talking about doing an episode of this show about Yo! Noid for, man, it has to be years at this point, doesn't it? I was worried there wouldn't be enough meat on the pizza to talk about. I was sweating that nobody aside from my guest and I ever played it to begin with. And I was a little nervous the noid would show up and start wrecking my pizzas...   But we finally threw caution into the wind, and recorded what could very well be the first ever podcast dedicated to the NES "classic" that is Yo! Noid.    My pal Tyler makes his return to the show this week, and we talked about the stupid skateboard levels, the boring pizza eating contests, the cheap, cheap, CHEEEEAAAAAP deaths that this stupid game is full of, and why despite all of those faults, this is still a pretty adequate NES game. I know it took forever, but enjoy your damned Yo! Noid podcast!   And before we talk pizzas and Noids, I bake up another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'!   This week, we get into the fact that Nintendo, PlayStation and XBx all have the 'X' button on their controllers in a different spot, and why it needs to stop. As a comedian, am I getting nervous that someone will rush the stage and beat me up after seeing what happened to Dave Chapelle? And should we let our gaming backlogs get to us?   PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three mascot-centric duds: Cool Spot, Chester Cheetah's Wild Wild Quest, and MC Kids.    Are you on social media? Of course you are. Tight leather, endless apathy, rock-solid hair, and a flair for casual violence. THESE are the things needed, to be a badass protagonist in gaming—or a lead singer for a hair metal band in the 80s. We've pair up two of the sexiest, stylin'est, slayin'est characters you wish you could be AND be with at... the same time. Meanwhile, the boss makes the office that much cooler with an overload of corporate sponsorships, cause nothing is more hip and B.A. than abandoning your principles and selling-out. In this episode we talkin' modern horse racism, how to make the libs mad, and cowboy delivers his take on single motherhood. We also find out the winner of last week's dogfight in our audience Head2head between the goodest of boys: "D-Dog from MGS5 vs Dogmeat from Fallout 4". Also, quick note, we will no longer be reviewing video games moving forward.
