Will and his friend Ethan (a tentative Mavs fan who is trying to learn more but is very passionate about basketball) wrap up a 98-96 OT summer league victory for the Mavericks over the Golden State Warriors as well as the 112-91 dismantling of the Indiana Pacers in this one. He talks about the defensive identity and young culture that has been fostered on this you Mavs summer league team and how much of a stark contrast it is to previous summer league teams for the Mavs over the last few years. He talks about key role players and how they fared in both games like AJ Lawson, Taze Moore, and Jordan Walker and how they could all potentially be guys that harness the last two 2-way spots the Mavericks have after signing Mike Miles Jr. (who's also been very impressive) to a 2-way deal yesterday. They then talk about how the rookies fared in both games and just how much potential Dereck Lively II has despite him still needed to continue on an upward trajectory on that developmental curve quite some more before he's ready to start. The first move they made was selecting center Dereck Lively from Duke at No. 12 in a deal in which they traded the No. 10 pick and Davis Bertans to Oklahoma City. The biggest surprise of their night came later in the first round in which they acquired Richaun Holmes and the No. 24 pick, which they used to select forward Olivier-Maxence "O-Max" Prosper from Marquette. We discuss how these moves showed a rare creativity we haven't seen from the Mavs' front office in many years, and why there is finally reason to believe they have a direction as they look to build a competitive team around Luka Dončić and hopefully Kyrie Irving.
