For ambient and electronic artists, the music of the winter season holds a special appeal. Dense drones, chilled harmonies, bright bells and percussion, and the psychoactive power of minimalist patterns — add up to a powerful palette of musical elements. The small but artistically mighty countries of Scandinavia and the Arctic north produce far more than their share of world-class music across a wide range of contemporary genres and music for film. Nourishing it all is the influence of the extraordinary natural environment: the cold North Sea and volcanic islands, the dramatic coastal mountains and fjords, the vast boreal forests, the visual magic of fog, mist, and snow, and the otherworldly spectacle of the auroras—the famous northern lights. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, wintry ambient from Scandinavia and the Arctic north to Northern California, on a program called "NORTHERN LIGHTS 5." Music is by ROBERT JÜRJENDAL, ERIK WØLLO, PHILLIP WILKERSON & CHRIS RUSSELL, SNOWDROPS, TERJE ISUNGSET & EIVIND AARSET, MARK BANNING (RIP), and JEFF PEARCE. Almost four years after *Rituals*, Levente's new album *The Ray Bradbury Chronicles* takes inspiration from the legendary wordsmith and follows an “old-fashioned” approach to musical storytelling. Joining the ranks of labels that support Sequences, Other Side Audio showcases the esteemed artist Craig Padilla with *The Pulse Of Life*, a vast musical composition created on the Mattson Modular synthesiser and Xan Alexander's *Qurorobos 2*, presenting syncopated rhythms and soundscapes that serve as a backdrop for rising and dancing melodies. Ahhh, the advent of spring. It arrives in fits and starts... a few warm days punctuated by brisk winds and unpredictable storms. In March, we pass the spring equinox and have a bright new season. The trees bud and blossom, and the natural world stirs and awakes. After the constriction and enclosure of winter, it's a time to stretch, breathe deep, and expand. The Ambient soundscapes of the season are brighter, bolder, larger, with a sense of possibility, even hope. The long winter is past, the joy of spring and the blissful days of summer are at hand. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a journey in the vernal soundscape, on a program called EXPANSION. Music is by DAVID HELPLING & JON JENKINS, PATRICK O'HEARN, JOHN LYELL, ALPHA WAVE MOVEMENT, PHILLIP WILKERSON, HAR, and HAROLD BUDD. Back in the late 18th and early 19th century, a German doctor named FRANZ MESMER had a far out theory about energy transference between animate and inanimate objects. He called it "animal magnetism." A Scottish doctor named JAMES BAIRD developed the idea and called it "nervous sleep" or "neuro-hypnotism," and later just "hypnosis." The word comes from the Greek hypnos for "sleep" and osis "to put to sleep." These days, thanks to the American Psychological Association, we have a formal definition of hypnosis as "a state of consciousness created by 'hypnotic induction' and characterized by relaxation, focused attention and increased suggestibility, with alterations in perception, sensation, emotion, thought or behavior." Others define it as psychological regression, dissociation, or an altered state of functioning. However you define it, hypnosis has a lot in common with ambient music, which also creates a relaxed state with focused attention. Whether it causes increased suggestibility and altered perception...well, that's up to you. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, electronic music for mental alteration, on a program called HYPNOTRONIC. Music is by ORCHESTRA SOLITAIRE, CHRONOTOPE PROJECT, THIERRY DAVID, HOWARD GIVENS & CRAIG PADILLA, A PRODUCE, PHILLIP WILKERSON, STEVE ROACH, and VIC HENNEGAN. Happy New Year to all our listeners, friends & musicians. Making their debut on our first edition of 2022 are the band 70db consists of two well-known musicians Steve Schroyder & Wolfram Spyra, plus Rainer Vonviel, Udo P. Leis, & B. Ashra, with a live set of electronics commissioned for the 100th birthday of the Schöneberg Town Hall in Berlin in 2014,. The special thing about the live performance of "70db" was the use of 3 real church bells weighing tons on the stage to use with the music. Argentinian transgender woman Sofía Lecuona Pugno, (a.k.a Nait Saves) expresses ethereal ambient glitchy electronica & minimalistic piano music. Camila artist name Caminauta, an Independent composer and ambient musician dedicated to films soundtracks scores, and interdisciplinary art projects, & Ajna & Onasander join forces to create a dark and brooding soundtrack to one of the most highly attested witches in Latin Literature, Canidia, evoking the heinous deeds of Canidia the Witch, propelling the listener into her ancient world of nightmarish deeds and mystery. One of the core experiences of ambient and electronic spacemusic is the feeling of weightless floating. These subtle sounds seem to dematerialize us, expand our personal space, and slow our sense of time. It's kind of magical — and for many of us, highly pleasurable, even addictive. Since the introduction of mass-produced electronic instruments in the 1970s, anyone can create floating textures, but even if you're just a listener, the experience is widely enjoyed and often described in therapeutic terms as relaxing, healing, and transformative. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, another anti-gravity journey on electronic waves, on a program called FLOATING WORLDS 2. Music is by PAUL AVGERINOS, ERIK WØLLO, HOWARD GIVENS & CRAIG PADILLA, PHILLIP WILKERSON, and MAX CORBACHO. [ view program page ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]

Welcome our newcomers to Sequences who always surprise us with their form of electronic music added to the many thousands we’ve had the pleasure of bringing to you over the years. Construction is Nadya Peek & Marko Ahtisasri bringing a unique strong ambient laid back jazz influence sound. Syngate's latest offering A.D.S.R. is a music project of nameless people and their sound generators. A dreamer & love of creating spacious soundscapes NAmbient. The duo Phillip Wilkerson & Jourdan Laik known as Time Being, are in top form as they venture into over 70 minutes of deep-drifting, time-melting, soul-stirring bliss that hovers delicately at the fringes of darkness and light. Music composed by Sergio Mariani surrounding a Steel Guitar among other electronic instruments, to give you peace and tranquility for quiet moments of prayer, pondering, or just to take it easy and enjoy. As one of the three artists in the Band Airsculpture, Peter Ruczynski solo project Softbase is no stranger to the more esoteric and ambient side of EM, enjoy this solo ramble into different sonic worlds & finally the album Asthenosphere, according to Lethave Plank, "takes up the baton of a hypothesis that could not be proved until several decades after it was formulated, and in the romantic idea of a dream that survives its creator". Maybe it was just a coincidence, a timely convergence, but the era of space exploration that began in the 1960s was also a formative decade for electronic music. At the time, German experimental composer KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN observed that there was a natural relationship between his electronic music and images of cosmic space. Maybe it was the drugs, but it seemed right. In Germany, the late 1960s saw the rise of the "Kozmik Musik" genre; electronic nebulae blossomed all over Europe and the English speaking countries; SUN RA toured the world and played his own brand of Afro-cosmic funk, while JOHN COLTRANE and his wife ALICE released the album COSMIC MUSIC. In the 1970's the COSMIC COURIERS record label was established, PROGRESSIVE ROCK went cosmic and became SPACE ROCK, BRIAN ENO invented Ambient, and PINK FLOYD became the biggest selling band in the world after Dark Side of the Moon. It was Good Times for space fans. Today, electronic spacemusic is an established genre with a nice article in Wikipedia and a steady stream of significant new music from masters of the craft. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a classic journey in the electronic starfields, on a program called MASTERS OF SPACE. Music is by ERIK WØLLO & MICHAEL STEARNS, DAVID HELPLING & JON JENKINS, JON DURANT & ROBERT JÜRJENDAL, PHILLIP WILKERSON, and JEFF GREINKE. Flying. Drifting. Floating. Three kinds of virtual movement we find in ambient music. Flying...is moving through space with speed, purpose, and destination. Flying is active. Drifting...is horizontal. You surrender to prevailing forces and let them move you. Drifting is passive. Floating...is vertical. You hang suspended, neutrally buoyant, in equilibrium with gravity. Like drifting, floating is passive. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we drift wide and quiet, on a program called DRIFTING IN SILENCE. Music is by DRIFTING IN SILENCE, MASSERGY, CLIVE WRIGHT, STEVE ROACH, PHILLIP WILKERSON, VIR UNIS, JOHN FOXX + HAROLD BUDD. This is a really special episode for a number of reasons. First, we get to highlight three phenomenal people that are doing incredibly impactful things in our world. Next, is that the inspiration for this particular episode came from an event Elizabeth and I were able to attend where Admiral William McRaven was the keynote speaker. Which by the way if you don’t know who Admiral McRaven is (and I didn’t at the time) you most definitely need check him out! He has accomplished many lifetimes worth of great achievements and has a great personal story to go along with. Admiral McRaven’s message during his keynote drew from the iconic film “It’s a Wonderful Life”. McRaven used the narrative to highlight that every day average people all can be George Bailey in their own unique way. He ended his speech by saying “You change one life, and you never know how that’s going to effect thousands of lives. You’re all George Bailey” This episode highlights Bob Milner (episode #7), Phillip Wilkerson (episode #2), and Barry Blanton (episode #16). Each of these past guests share their "George Bailey story". Thanks for listening! Please RATE and REVIEW the podcast! I've been into the BANDCAMP site for a relatively short while now, and I have to give the site a lot of credit if helping me find some great independent artists. Bandcamp is very instrumental in giving these artists a place to market their original music, and this has become a very valuable asset to those that praise independent musicians (that's me!). The creation of the DIY musician as producer/label/market is a product borne of the music industry's greed, and that benefits us in that we are awarded creations that the music industry would rather ignore. Their loss, our gain......I've created this amalgamation from artists' music who I've gotten from Bandcamp (one caveat; the Phillip Wilkerson tune I got from Earth Mantra, but I absolutely love the tune and decided to slip it in this mix! I own quite a few from Phillip both from Bandcamp and Earth Mantra), and their sounds speak loud volumes. This is no means a complete list, just a current list of what I've found so far that has appealed to me. Trust me, I have not even heard a fraction of the unreal music that can be found there. It's quite the event to check back often and see beautiful sounds piling up in the queue. There are certain things that stick out for some reason to me and that comprises what's here. This mix, to me, was one of my favorites to make, as I'm standing on the shoulders of those who have created some masterpieces that really move me. Truly inspiring.I have to give a shout out to 2 sources that I use when finding new music on Bandcamp. One is AMBIENT SLEEPING PILL, which is an indispensable resource for ambient music that is just barely over one year old (Happy Birthday, Mr. Klimek!). I've discovered many new artists there. The other is the listener BRIAN BOURASSA, whose Bandcamp profile spurs me on to check out new art quite often. I admire (and envy) Brian's massive accumulation of music and the honest critiques that he writes. He's been a consistent go-to guy for getting some good suggestions (Brian, I could have used input from you on this one, let's talk for the next one!). You can view my ever so humble collection at https://bandcamp.com/infinite_coil. If there is just one a way to show support for independent artists, this is definitely it. You can get so much music for free, but supporting them is not only karma (as well as added to your collection so that listeners can see those artists you feel strongly about) but also very inspiring for the artists to create more. Guten Tag (oder Morgen, Abend.........wasimmer), wie geht's? Mir geht's gut, danke. Just trying to keep up with old skills, sorry. Like the very first mix that I did (MELANCHOLY), this outing is a representation of a nostalgic period in my life. Perhaps it's the vibe, or a certain sound within the songs that I pick up on. Having must moved (a big event in my life, and I mark those events by what I listen to), I find a comfort in the songs presented here, and I have been bouncing these songs off of my mind for a little bit now.I just recently discovered Petal, and this song more than others is a composition direction that I'd like to explore. I'm going to pick his song apart and find out what makes it magical to me. World Without End is the perfect song to open this mix up with. It creates the right atmosphere for me to get my head right. I'm actually quite (justifiably) jealous of Petal's composition skills and tones, and in particular on this piece. Be sure to pay him a visit at either his blog (PETAL) or his artist page at Earth Mantra (EARTH MANTRA - PEDAL). He also gave me a killer review on my release with Harmony & Decay (thanks, man!!).Also a relatively new discovery is Phillip Wilkerson, and I'm a big fan! The first time that I heard Stillpoint, it sounded (to me) much like the transition from Pink Floyd's Money into Us And Them (from Dark Side Of The Moon). I will never forget the morning my sister bought that album and played it (all day) while 'babysitting'. Stillpoint put me in that same place as soon as I heard it (I'm waiting to hear the opening of Floyd's 'Us And Them'). I will definitely be using more of Phillip's music in upcoming podcasts.A quite amazing track that means a whole lot to me is Brian Eno's Discreet Music. I used to play (very loud) guitar with a country band in Alaska for 4 or 5 hours a night every weekend (I'm really not making that up!) and would have my ears completely blasted out. When I got in the car (which I had to warm up for 30-45 minutes when it was -40 or so), this was the song that I would let ease me back into my subdued realm. There were a few other songs that I would use for that, but this one really sticks to my mind. That coming down session in the car meant that it was a downhill battle to drive home and turn off the mind (with a pocket full of money!), and I cherish those moments. Like I said - nostalgia.I also slipped in 2 songs from the Donnie Darko soundtrack. It's one of my favorite movies, and the moods created by the music enhance the film. I actually am working on music-from-films mix, and should have it ready in a few weeks (the tough thing is, most songs are about 2 or 3 minutes, so that's A LOT of songs!).Most everything else is stuff that I listen to at night time (everything from the John Foxx/Harold Budd collaboration, Paul Avgerinos, Stars Of The Lid) or make mixes for the car (Boards Of Canada) and hear them over and over and over and............. I can remember the first time that I heard each tune and the impact that they had. This mix means a lot to me and will be one of the ones that I constantly play for myself.I hope that the music brings you peace, and tranquility, and comfort. Share it with anyone who needs to wind down and let go for a bit. Support the artists!turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
