Lee Harris, the founder and guitarist of the successful band ‘Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secret' was our first interview guest almost two years ago. We had an exciting conversation back then and we knew we wanted to invite him back to our podcast. Now, 25 episodes later, the time has finally come, Lee Harris is back!Together with Phil Salathé, in this episode we talk about Lee's youth, his own career as co-manager and guitarist of the band ‘Ian Dury and the Blockheads' and the musical development of Pink Floyd between the years 1967 and 1972, an era they cover with the 'Saucers'.Lee also gives us a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the band, describing the conditions under which the songs were chosen and why Echoes came so late in the setlist.Look forward to a lively conversation between two full-blooded musicians and some great and nerdy insights...(On a personal note, to our knowledge Pink Floyd performed 'The Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' four times during the UK leg of their British Winter Tour in 1970.)
The teenage Alan Parsons was hired as a tape op by EMI and worked with the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Steve Harley, orchestras, comedians, Pinky And Perky and countless others in the control room at Abbey Road, and saw almost 60 years of technical revolution.

AENIMA, the 1996 album from progressive metal shamans TOOL, is a progressive, heavy, and atmospheric album loaded with layers and layers of sonic texture that should be enjoyed with headphones to ensure the ideal experience. In short, if Tool is the metal community's Pink Floyd, then AENIMA is most definitely their Dark Side Of The Moon. And as with any prog album of such incredible quality, you must listen to it “front to back”, in its entirety because it's truly a “start to finish” experience. You may recall that we did an album dive of this many, many moons ago, right around the time of the COVID pandemic, during the “B.R.” period. It was a Metal Nerdery two-some, it was done over a Zoom call, it was definitely weird, and it was the only time we ever “did it” with only “two thirds the nerds” (it's episode 38, released April 2, 2020, btw. You've been warned). Always remember to reach “Finger…knuckle…elbow…and shoulder deep inside the borderline” in order to properly clean out and prepare for your upcoming “analectomy”. Prepare to enjoy “The BALLS of satan” (“Und keine eier”), enjoy some reflections regarding ample “shoulder tits” that were shown “at a bar”, and a bunch of assorted “piss hockey snot” associated with “where rich people live (and eat) in Atlanta”. Be advised that “white people rapping is kinda like girls talking about football” and remember that a hilariously, weird threesome is always better than an unfunny, awkward twosome. Happy Turkels to all, enjoy some “Harry Manbackshadowing” reflections, revel in the infinite comedy genius of Bill Hicks and JOIN US as we strive for redemption with a full power threesome and dive “colon deep inside the borderline” with TOOL's AENIMA. Over the course of eight days in January 1972, Pink Floyd began to showcase The Dark Side Of The Moon, their brand-new piece of music, which would ultimately define their legacy. The band kicked off their tour with concerts in Brighton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, and Southampton, before heading north to Newcastle and Leeds. For live recording collectors, these early dates have long been a source of confusion, with persistent issues regarding accurate dates and uncertainties surrounding the content and quality of the audience recordings.Consequently, the pivotal January shows are often overshadowed by the February 1972 Rainbow Theatre concerts. In this episode, Phil Salathé and Ian Priston delve deep into the January shows, offering insightful musical analysis and thorough research to shed light on this pivotal moment in Pink Floyd's history.
Pro Audio Design Engineer Andy Bereza summarises his impressive career in a chat with Paul Gilby. Andy founded Allen & Heath Mixers before working for TEAC/Tascam, where he conceived the TEAC Portastudio the portable multitrack cassette tape recorder that revolutionised the home recording market in the 1980s. He then co-founded Bandive-Turnkey where he developed a range of budget signal processors and the famous Great British Spring reverb to sell to the rapidly expanding Home Studio Recording market. At the same time, he was a consultant for the Fostex X15 multitrack cassette as well as helping to steer further product designs. The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd stands alone in many ways. By dealing with the uncomfortable concepts of life, death, greed, and mental illness, this body of work chimes with the human experience on a real level, which is remarkable considering that Roger Waters wrote the lyrics when he was just in his late 20's. The content resonates so completely that The Dark Side Of The Moon holds the record on the Billboard 200 chart for being the longest-charting album in the chart's history - over a thousand weeks and counting. It is one of the best-selling albums in the world, one of the most important in the entire rock genre. And when it comes to “Time,” track four on side one, we have a song that confronts us with our very path of existence. It traces the whole pattern of life, from youth to death and the great beyond, in six minutes and 53 seconds of pure poetry and amazingly creative audio imagery - ticking clocks and all.
