Mike Hopkins gave the media a new phrase to digest Thursday afternoon: positionless basketball. Yup, throw away all the antiquated terminology. Who plays the one? The two? It doesn't matter at UW right now. Hopkins said he's fully embracing the idea of 'offense is spacing and spacing is offense'. He talked about getting Quade Green back, as well as how instrumental Wichita State transfer Erik Stevenson could be if his eligibility waiver is approved. Learn more about your ad choices. Dawgman.com's Chris Fetters caught up with the Head of Hoops - Aaron Beach - to talk about all things Washington Basketball and recruiting, starting with the idea they may not be completely done with signings for the 2020 class. Both Erik Stevenson and Nate Pryor signed letters of intent last month to be Huskies, and now former Lynden Christian star Cole Bajema is back on the market after leaving Michigan. Beach talks about his game and how good a fit he would be for the Huskies if he chooses to stay closer to home this time around. Then the talk moves to more recruiting, but this time for a loaded 2021 class. With two players graduating after the 2020-21 season (Nahziah Carter and Hameir Wright), and a possible third leaving after the year is done (Quade Green), Washington could grab up to three, and maybe even more players for the 2021 class. Olympia's Jackson Grant has already committed to Washington, and the Huskies are hot on the heels of some other local players, including Jaylen Nowell's younger brother Shane. But Eastside Catholic star Nolan Hickman is right near the top of their list. But at the very top of their wish list is O'Dea phenom Paolo Banchero, and Beach talks about his options, which include the NBA G-League. the G League, starting this season, will be offering contracts to select players not yet eligible to declare for the NBA Draft, and could earn as much as $125,000 for a season. Would that be enough to entice a player of Banchero's quality away from college? Beach believes that with the new NLI (Name, Likeness, and Image) rights granted to college players in the coming years might generate enough income for certain players to go to school and stay for a couple of years. Finally, Fetters and Beach break down what Washington's rotation will likely look like starting this fall. Will Mike Hopkins try and get back to using a strict 8-man rotation? And if so, which players will fit that rotation? It's not an easy question to answer, because at least one or two quality players could be riding a lot of pine this winter as a result. And what does Beach think the backcourt duo of Green and Stevenson are capable of this fall? And is it a smart assumption to believe Stevenson will be eligible to play right away? They got us to believe again, taking a big lead into the second half, and once again the Husky men's basketball team gave up the lead late in the game, falling to the Arizona Wildcats. The loss of Quade Green had a bigger impact than most of us thought it would clearly. All hope is not lost, but they're going ot have to go on a crazy run and probably have to win the Pac-12 Tournamen tin order to make the NCAA Tournament. Over the last year or so, we've had both Andy Reid and John Lynch on the show talking with Mike Holmgren. Obviously, both are involved in the Super Bowl, so we thought it would be an excellent time to re-visit those conversations. Dan Dibley of 95.7 The Game joins the show to talk about the Niners' potential in this weekend's Super Bowl.

Washington Head Coach Mike Hopkins said after Thursday's 66-64 loss to UCLA that championship teams respond. He was excited to see how the Huskies would respond Sunday night versus USC. Well, he got what he was looking for. UW held the Trojans to 35 points below their scoring average, blowing them out 72-40 in front of an announced attendance of 8774 at Alaska Airlines Arena. "We had a game plan," Hopkins said. "There were different things we had to have executed, and they had a great focus, and they had great energy. Those are the two things in any defense you play, you've got to be able to compete like that, with focus and energy. Everybody that came off the bench impacted the game and that was with focus and energy. I was really, really happy with our performance. "It's not about making shots and missing shots, it's about playing great team defense. It's finishing, being tough, and rebounding. I thought those guys did that tonight. They executed the game plan." Quade Green, Nate Roberts and Hopkins talked post-game about the win and how they were able to pull it off. Learn more about your ad choices. On Monday college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman picked the Huskies to make the Final Four. That's heady stuff, considering the last Washington team to make the Final Four (the only time) was back in 1953. Those were the days of Tippy Dye and Bob Houbregs. UW Head Coach Mike Hopkins said he didn't know about the news, which is unsurprising. It's usually his wife Tricia who keeps him abreast of current events, especially while Hop and the rest of the Huskies are focused on preparing for their season-opener against Baylor Friday in Anchorage as part of the Armed Forces Classic. And honestly, even if he did know, Hopkins has been around enough tournament teams during his days at Syracuse to pooh-pooh such preseason talk. It's great for the fans and it can energize a team, but it's just that...talk. Hopkins' response to all of it? DMGB. Huh? What's that? Sounds like something a player would take to help them recover after a grueling game. Doesn't Matter. Get Better. That's the mantra. Those are the four words the team is living by. They showed a ton of promise in their exhibition win over Western Washington on Halloween, but the team got even better on paper the next day when it was announced Quade Green's waiver for immediate eligibility came through. It feels like things are coming together nicely for Hop's Huskies. Doesn't matter. Get Better. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
