New single Tamgo drops Oct 7th! mindofthenoise.comJason D. Harris—a hip-hop architect and founder of Mind of the Noise Records, as well as visionary educator whose journey from the gritty streets of St. Louis to the bright lights of LA is nothing short of legendary. Jason's mission? To flip the script on music education and empower the next generation through his groundbreaking “Beat School with Mr. J.”At just 11 years old, Jason made a pact with himself while watching the Grammys—he'd never stop until his sound reverberated across the globe. Fast forward, and this kid from St. Louis has crafted beats and engineered sounds for icons like Kid Cudi, Ledisi, and J.Lo. But it wasn't just about the fame. Jason discovered his true calling when he realized his beats could do more than just move the crowd—they could shape the future.Jason's journey led him to LA with a vision as big as the beats he was creating. Every rhythm he laid down carried a deeper purpose—a mission to give back and inspire the youth who look up to him. That's how “Beat School with Mr. J” was born. This isn't just a program; it's a cultural revolution. It's where young creatives get the tools to produce, write, and perform, all while finding their own voice in the process. Jason's “Buy a Hat, Donate a Class” initiative is the real deal—buy a hat, and you're opening the door for a kid to step into the studio and start crafting their future.Jason's journey is packed with milestones—a Grammy nod, powerful collaborations with artists like Taraji P. Henson, and a relentless drive to turn every beat into a movement. With the support of his mom and mentorship from legends like Roscoe Mitchell, Jason's connection to the community runs deep. Now, he's ready to take his sound global, dropping his debut album “Blingville” alongside the Beat School movement. This isn't just about music; it's about turning every beat into a source of strength, inspiration, and change for kids worldwide.

With its immense catalog of sounds — from old tracks to new and every remix in between — TikTok has evolved beyond its early days as a space for lip-syncing videos and dance trends into a cultural "tastemaker," and a driving force for the music industry. The app is now partnering with Ticketmaster to help users find and buy concert tickets right on the app. With its recent filing to trademark "TikTok Music" in countries including the U.S., New Zealand, and the U.K., there's evidence that TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, could try to compete with streaming giants like Spotify and Apple Music. Today on Front Burner, Insider media reporter Dan Whateley joins guest host Jason D'Souza to break down how TikTok has caused a paradigm shift in music — down to how it's written — and what its plans might be to leverage the app's power over the industry.
Despite its name, the Inflation Reduction Act is in large part a climate bill, with $369 billion US earmarked primarily for investments in green innovation in the U.S. and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The U.S. Senate narrowly granted its approval last weekend, paving the way to a House of Representatives vote where political observers anticipate it will pass and be signed into law by President Joe Biden. Today on Front Burner, guest host Jason D'Souza speaks with Time magazine senior climate reporter Justin Worland to learn more about how the historic — albeit watered down — climate investment, before hearing from Eddy Pérez with the Climate Action Network Canada to better understand how Canada's efforts now stack up against the U.S.
Quebec's Conservative party — unaffiliated with the federal Conservatives — had long been essentially a fringe party in the province, with no seats in the legislature, no invitations to major debates and little funding. But since former talk radio host Éric Duhaime took over last year, the party has become a contender in Quebec politics, at some points polling as high as nearly 20 per cent. A recent CBC News investigation found that of the first 54 candidates the party has announced, nearly 30 per cent have used their social media accounts during the pandemic to amplify medical misinformation, conspiracy theorists or to engage with far-right extremists. Today on Front Burner, CBC's Jonathan Montpetit joins guest host Jason D'Souza to talk about the Quebec Conservative party under Duhaime's leadership, the supporters the party is attracting and the impact the party could have on Quebec politics.

In Institutional Sexual Abuse in the #metoo Era (Southern Illinois UP, 2021), editors Jason D. Spraitz and Kendra N. Bowen bring together the work of contributors in the fields of criminal justice and criminology, sociology, journalism, and communications. These chapters show #MeToo is not only a support network of victims' voices and testimonies but also a revolutionary interrogation of policies, power imbalances, and ethical failures that resulted in decades-long cover-ups and institutions structured to ensure continued abuse. This book reveals #MeToo as so much more than a hashtag. Contributors discuss how #MeToo has altered the landscape of higher education; detail a political history of sexual abuse in the United States and the UK; discuss a recent grand jury report about religious institutions; and address the foster care and correctional systems. Hollywood instances are noted for their fear of retaliation among victims and continued accolades for alleged abusers. In sports, contributors examine the Jerry Sandusky scandal and the abuse by Larry Nassar. Advertising and journalism are scrutinized for covering the #MeToo disclosures while dealing with their own scandals. Finally, social media platforms are investigated for harassment and threats of violent victimization. Drawing on the general framework of the #MeToo Movement, contributors look at complex and very different institutions—athletics, academia, religion, politics, justice, childcare, social media, and entertainment. Contributors include revelatory case studies to ensure we hear the victims' voices; bring to light the complicity and negligence of social institutions; and advocate for systemic solutions to institutional sexual abuse, violence, and harassment. Jeannette Cockroft is an associate professor of history and political science at Schreiner University. Learn more about your ad choices.
