Yes, Jai is back here on the pod to talk the recent happenings in fashion but basically we dish some hot topics then straight into our Met Gala recap. We first discuss the status of Hedi Slimane at LVMH, Susie Bubble at System Magazine and our fave mid 2000s bloggers, Law Roach on The Cutting Room Floor Podcast, and then our hits and misses when it comes to the Met looks. Who was and wasn't on theme, why so much Galliano, some menswear we enjoyed.--- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE! Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Jai @jai_stylefactory Music by Den-Mate @imdenmateFollow Fashion Grunge Podcast Substack The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletterInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

Recho Omondi is a fashion designer and podcaster. You may know her from her fashion podcast, The Cutting Room Floor, Fashion's Only Fashion Show. I first heard of Recho through her t-shirt's being sold at The ADO Shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. RIP. I can't stop looking at Recho's Tik Tok feed. Her hot takes, never cold. Her fast content, never slow.  I always have the need to answer the questions she asks in IG stories. It's giving should I DM her back? I know the answer but should I? While Jay Shetty inspires me to grow and create the life I want, Maintenance Phase is the podcast that makes me question everything health-related and The Cutting Room Floor is an exercise in research and reflection, with a fashion angle. I wanted this episode to be an insight into what I love and I really hope you love them too! Be sure to let me know – do you already listen to these podcasts? Over this past year, it has become clear that the skincare industry has reached an inflection point. The market is incredibly oversaturated, celebrities are launching their own skincare lines each week, and anti-girlboss culture has arrived. Perhaps the most striking events to mark this moment are Emily Weiss's decision to step down as the CEO of Glossier and Kim Kardashian's launch of her own nine-product line, SKKN. Persian Girl Podcast's Podcast

Do beaten horses in fact ever die?  Millie and Natalie attempted to discuss their being uninvited from a comedy show for their Jewishness when Al Jazeera asked them to record comments for the news channel's documentary on comedian Noam Shuster (see S1 E13).  They then follow how the media orchestrates the never-ending Israeli-Palestinian conflicts on behalf of larger powers financing the proxy war (in the name of each's plights and passions, of course!) and why Recho Omondi felt obliged to somehow re-cancel Leandra Medine, a sadistic spectacle promptly picked up by the so-called fashion media (e.g. NY Mag's The Cut.) Hello, hello! We are BACK, baby. We've been having a little cosy girl winter and regroup and can't wait to be back in your ears. After not recording for a month we have a little catch up before launching into our thoughts on the new Gossip Girl reboot. (Hint: there's a lot).  We reference this article by Adrian Horton for the Guardian as well as this Vulture piece titled 'Gossip Girl Is Having A Very Glamorous Identity Crisis' by Kathryn VanArendok. From one group of Upper East Siders to an IRL one, we dive into a break-down of the latest Leandra Medine Cohen (founder of 2010s fashion blog, Man Repeller) news. Leandra was interviewed by New York designer and 'The Cutting Room Floor' podcast host, Recho Omondi. The interview made waves in the fashion world as a privileged Leandra seemed to dig herself a deeper hole after being publicly shamed after the murder of George Floyd last year. We ask if this podcast and the resulting articles were actually constructive or if this is just celebrity gossip turned woke.  For our first ep back, Jas recommends the Maybe Baby newsletter by Haley Nahman and the piece 'What's Up With Instagram' while Maggie recommends 'Crying in H Mart' by Michelle Zauner.Katie Zhou created our fab new cover art and India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Recho is a young, NY-based, fashion designer who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, no matter who’s listening. Growing up between the midwest and Nairobi, she nurtured a love of fashion early by creating collages, explaining “any black girl I could get my hands on, I was going to cling on to for dear life". She now casts beautiful black models for her brand Omondi. We talk about the importance of being yourself, her serious beef with American Vogue, and how growing up the subtleties of not being able to find beauty products for you, or having platforms to learn about yourself, can impact the relationship we have with our own beauty routines, especially our hair. I get to hear about how she went platinum blonde and we reflect on Atlanta’s weave culture. She’s got love for the Glossier products but likes to keep her beauty routine simple. Recho makes everything seem effortless(from her career, to getting press attention and speaking out when no one else will) and her approach to beauty is no different.
