Mix engineer Alex Gamble joins guest host Ben Givarz to discuss the creative and technical process behind mixing FKA twigs' new album Eusexua in Dolby Atmos®. He shares how his immersive mixes in Dolby Atmos enhance the record's intimacy, rhythm, and vocal playfulness — pushing boundaries while staying true to FKA twigs's artistic vision. “At that [early] stage, where I'm assessing the stems versus the master, I'm not trying to go overboard to do an exact match — because things are going to change once I start panning things around. Timbre and transients, and things like that — they change depending on where you choose to pan things in an Atmos environment. Things came in sounding so great. The productions were great: very intimate, very cerebral. Really big scene changes in a lot of these songs… and a lot of glitchy, cool elements too. That's one of the things I latched onto during my first listen… thinking, this is stuff that'll really be interesting to pull into three dimensions and see if I can build upon the production.”—Alex Gamble, Dolby Atmos Mix Engineer, Eusexua by FKA twigs Stay connected! - You can listen to FKA twigs - Eusexua as well as many other classic and contemporary artists in Dolby Atmos, on enabled streaming services. - Follow FKA twigs on Instagram and YouTube - Learn more about Alex Gamble and his studioInterested in creating content in Dolby Atmos? Understanding Why People Stay in Abusive RelationshipsBill Eddy and Megan Hunter return for their seventh season of It's All Your Fault to tackle a challenging but critical topic: why people stay in abusive relationships. Drawing from their extensive experience at the High Conflict Institute, they explore the complex psychological, financial, and social factors that make leaving difficult—even for those with resources and support networks. The Power of Coercive ControlThe episode delves into how coercive control operates in relationships, using the high-profile example of FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf. Bill and Megan examine how abusers use tactics like love bombing, isolation, and emotional manipulation to maintain power. They emphasize that this pattern appears not just in romantic relationships, but in workplaces, families, and elder care situations.Understanding Personality PatternsThe discussion explores how people with cluster B personality traits may engage in controlling behaviors. Bill and Megan carefully explain the connection between personality patterns and abusive behavior, while emphasizing that not everyone with these traits becomes abusive. They examine how cultural factors and early life experiences can influence the development of controlling behaviors.Breaking Free and Finding HelpThe hosts share practical advice for recognizing abuse and seeking help, highlighting the importance of self-talk and building support networks. They discuss how professionals and concerned individuals can better support those in abusive situations, emphasizing the need for careful investigation rather than quick dismissal of abuse claims.Questions we answer in this episode:Why do capable, independent people stay in abusive relationships? How does coercive control work in different types of relationships? What role do personality patterns play in abusive behavior? How can professionals better identify and help abuse victims? What are the first steps to breaking free from an abusive relationship?Key Takeaways:Abusive relationships often involve complex psychological manipulationFinancial and social factors can make leaving extremely difficultSelf-doubt and eroded self-esteem are common barriers to leavingSupport systems are crucial for helping people leave abusive situationsProfessional help and community awareness can make a significant differenceThis episode provides valuable insights for anyone trying to understand abusive relationships—whether personally affected or supporting others.
Currently trending on TikTok, FKA Twigs is going viral for an interview in which she asks the host and the crowd - "Where are the thinkers?"While internet users raise eyebrows at her question, one that ignores the socioeconomic conditions that affect our ability to create, this week our hosts Ione and Gina use the soundbite to discuss the wider problem at hand - when did pop culture turn into such a flopfest? We deep dive into the continuing escalation of how we consume media - from smashing that 1.5x speed button to the sheer amount of content available - and what effect it has on the creation of meaningful culture. Toby's book offers a political reading of popular music, taking as its methodological starting point the songs found in the charts from the 1950s to the present day, to explore how the music people listen to reflects and resists the politics of their time in fascinating ways.In this show Jeremy, Tim and Toby discuss the charts themselves, how we think of 'popular music', and discuss lyrics as a tool for analysis. This being LITM, we of course spend some time on the hits of the 1970s, but we hear also about '80s synth pop and yacht rock, Annie Lennox, MJ, and contemporary artists like FKA Twigs and Little Sims. Pencil skirt. Kitten heels. Tiny glasses. And a little dark edge. These are just some of the elements of one of the most enduring fashion trends of the past couple of years: the office siren. But we're not just seeing this twist on office norms in fashion: we're also seeing it in TV shows like Severance and Industry, and with musicians like The Dare and FKA Twigs. So what are people expressing by reimagining office fashions? Brittany is joined by NPR's Life Kit producer Margaret Cirino to discuss the "freakification" of office wear — its long lineage in fashion, and what office tensions this trend is speaking to right now.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

"I'm in a place of brutal honesty." The electronic pop auteur talks about her new album, the pressures of performing and falling in love with techno. One of today's most exciting stars is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, better known as FKA twigs. Genre-wise, she's difficult to pin down; some critics call her music ethereal, alien R&B refracted through the lens of dance music. She's now touring her third album, Eusexua which she's described as "that surge of nothingness right before a surge of creativity, or the moment before an orgasm." It's a response to falling in love with techno a couple of years ago, and the songs all hover somewhere around the rave. In this RA Exchange recorded live at AVA London 2025, twigs talks to Nadine Noor, founder of queer arts platform PXSSY PALACE, about the process of putting the LP together, as well as the sometimes painful pressures involved in performing and adopting a public persona. Today, twigs says she's in a place of brutal honesty, and on the edge of 40, "hitting the perfect arc of behind hot and not an idiot anymore." She also discusses starting her dancing practice from an incredibly young age, taking her first steps on what she anticipates will be a long partnership with modular synthesis and the challenge of making original art in an era dominated by trends. A growing number of international artists have been rethinking, or even cancelling, their U.S. tours amid rising costs and visa issues. Late last week, Canadian band Shred Kelly cancelled their U.S. shows, including a stop in Portland. British singer FKA Twigs also announced in April they would not be making an appearance at Coachella and canceled their American tour. Both artists cited ongoing visa issues as the reason for not performing in the states. Alex Ashley is a journalist and musician who reported on this story for Rolling Stone. He joins us to share about the challenges artists face when wanting to tour the U.S. and more.

Episode 72: William Bowerman. When I first saw Dua Lipa perform, the drummer immediately stood out, and it turned out he was also the musical director: William Bowerman. Fast forward 10 years, and William is one of the most in-demand musical directors in the world, coming out of London. He's still MD for Dua Lipa, and now his client list also includes Post Malone, Jennie, BLACKPINK, The Kid Laroi, FKA Twigs, Addison Rae, and many more. His work with Dua opened the floodgates, and he's since co-founded WFB with his wife, creative director Ace Bowerman. Together, they're building something special. William stopped by my place while he was in LA rehearsing for Coachella with Jennie, and we had a great hang. We talked about his path, creative process, artist relationships, WFB, and life. What better time for a crossover than a comic book adaptation? This week, Graham is joined by Andrew and Mick, the two hosts of Behold!, to examine the 2024 remake of James O'Barr's cult comic The Crow. Famously the source for a 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, that star's on-set death sparked rumours that the property was cursed, rumours that can only have increased once people saw this.Entering Pop Screen's airspace thanks to its decision to cast FKA Twigs as the hero's doomed love Shelly, the trio discuss her music and acting as well as the largely-ignored wider Crow mythology, the puzzlingly miscast films of Rupert Sanders, Bill Skarsgard's strengths and limitations as a leading man and the film's unexpected debts to Paddington 2. In last month's episode predicting the coming year in pop, one of the team's predictions was that trance music – the ethereal, dreamy subgenre of electronic music popular around the turn of the century – would make a comeback on the charts in 2025. And even though we're less than two months into the year, we're already seeing the tides of nostalgia bring this club-oriented music come back into fashion. This episode of Switched On Pop, Nate, Charlie, and Reanna take a look at trance music: where it came from, what it sounds like, and if we can hear it in two of the year's most anticipated records: The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow and FKA Twigs's EUSEXUA. Subscribe to Throwing Fits on Substack. Our interview with FKA twigs is the pinnacle of human existence. Twigs—whose new album EUSEXUA is out January 24th—was kind enough to swing by while in town to celebrate the upcoming release of her new album, being a queen of dark fashion, signature matcha, peaking, breaking down her intricate personal practice, finding inspiration in Prague, rave etiquette, the best room at Berghain, her mindset in the lead up to dropping new music, her many underrated disciplines and various random skills, what gets her excited about working again, a total commitment to art vs. today's algo-driven virality, how she pampers herself and cheats on her body when she's not treating it like a temple, how British is she really when it comes to various stereotypes, scratching her acting itch and much more on FKA twigs's interview with The Only Podcast That Matters™.
Continuing on this path of all things 2024 is the very unnecessary remake... The Crow. Hell hath no fury like Nathan's scorn for this movie and the guys have all kinds of things to talk about such as cool tattoos, possible time travel, romantic dialogue written by problematic teenagers, the genuinely awesome opera scene and much more.
