It is no secret that law students and attorneys exist in a stressful environment. As Amy Levin recently wrote, "[l]aw student mental health is at an all-time low." The American Bar Association (ABA) has conducted a study that shows how this environment tends to contribute to high rates of mental health disorders and substance abuse. In an effort to face this challenge, LSM has launched the Wellness Program—focused on providing students resources and discussions to face this issue, together. In this special episode, Michelle Williams talks to Ken Sande about relational wisdom, emotional intelligence, and developing healthy habits in navigating the challenges of legal pratice. **Please Note: There is a small lapse in the sermon at minute 24:55, due to a power failure. There In 1990, the term “Emotional Intelligence” was coined by two researchers, Peter Salavoy and John Mayer in their article “Emotional Intelligence” in the journal Imagination, Cognition, and Personality. It was later popularized by Dan Goleman in his best-selling, 1995 book, Emotional Intelligence. Goleman described Emotional Intelligence as a person's ability to manage their feelings so that those feelings are expressed appropriately and effectively. According to Goleman, Emotional Intelligence is the largest single predictor of success in the workplace. Goleman's book rightfully had a significant impact on Human Resourcing in the workplace. The search for people with “High EQ's” began replacing the search for people with “High IQ's”! In our day “Emotional Intelligence” is sometimes referred to as “Social Intelligence” or “Relational Intelligence”. Interestingly, James, the little brother of our LORD JESUS, wrote about this topic almost 2,000 years earlier, teaching followers of JESUS how to grow in “Relational Wisdom”! In this message, Pastor Joe Still teaches from James 3:13-18 which shows us how we might all grow in “Relational Wisdom”.

Managing Conflicts: Relational Wisdom from the Book of ProverbsJames Long, Jr. / https://jameslongjr.org/Relational Wisdom from the Book of Proverbs / Emotion; Conflict; Peacemaking Message ExpositionProverbs on Conflicts• Conflicts often occur because we fail to listen to God and reject His counsel (Proverbs 1:28-33; 2:1-6).• We are called to trust the Lord's instructions and disciplines. The benefits of trusting and following God are more precious than any earthly gain and will lead to peace and true life. Hold fast to God, and you will be blessed (Proverbs 3:11-18).• We must be careful not to have unnecessary conflicts and avoid those that provoke them (Proverbs 3:29-30; 4:20-27).• A person who causes strife and stirs up trouble among God's people is destined for God-ordained disaster and destruction (Proverbs 6:12-19).• The person who wants to be wise must examine their hearts in order to properly respond to rebuke, instruction, and correction (Proverbs 9:7-10; 10:8; 10:17; 11:2; 12:1; 12:15-16; 13:13-14; 13:19-20). • We must be careful of how we speak. Your words are a mirror of your heart. And our words reveal your tendency to hurt or heal or to bring the greatest harm (death) or the greatest good (life) (Proverbs 15:28; 11:9, 11; 12:18; 14:25; 15:4; 16:24, 28; 18:21) Twelve Ways to Spot a Fool Getting to the Root of Critical Judgments• Selfishness• Pride• Self-righteousness• Insecurity• Jealousy• Self-pity• Prejudice• Unforgiveness• Lack of loveThe Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ Brings Peace_______________ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life?
