Send us a textTitle: Psalm 30: Discovering Breakthrough Joy After Seasons of SufferingPsalm 30 reminds us that God humbles His people, not to destroy them, but to restore them. In this episode of Counseling through the Psalms, James Long Jr. unpacks how pride can collapse into despair, yet God's favor turns weeping into joy and mourning into dancing. We'll see how David's experience points us to Christ, who bore God's anger so that His people might know His eternal favor. If you have ever walked through loss, illness, or a season of deep struggle, Psalm 30 offers hope. God's discipline is temporary, but His restoration is lasting. The night of weeping may feel long, but morning joy is certain.Key TakeawaysGod delivers His people from death and despair (Psalm 30:1–3).His anger is momentary, but His favor lasts a lifetime (Psalm 30:5).Pride leads to discipline, but humility brings restoration (Psalm 30:6–10).Christ fulfills Psalm 30 by bearing God's wrath and bringing eternal joy (Romans 5:8–10).Our mourning is turned into dancing, and our silence into songs of praise (Psalm 30:11–12).Connect & ShareJoin the free Navigator Level of the Lessons for Life Community: https://jameslongjr.org/communityExplore membership and coaching options: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnowClosing Encouragement: When the night feels long and your heart is heavy, remember that God's favor outlasts your weeping, and His joy will greet you in the morning. Send us a textPsalm 29: God's Powerful Voice Brings Peace in the StormsFew experiences shake us like a thunderstorm. The lightning, thunder, and wind remind us how small and fragile we are. In Psalm 29, David takes this awe-inspiring force of nature and declares that it is not Baal, blind chance, or impersonal forces that command the storm, but Yahweh, the Lord of heaven and earth. His voice thunders over the waters, shakes the wilderness, and yet, for His people, His final word is peace. In this episode of Counseling Through the Psalms, we'll explore how God's voice reveals His majesty, His sovereignty over creation, and His gift of strength and peace to His people.Key Points from Psalm 29Heavenly Worship (vv. 1–2): All creation, even the angelic hosts, are called to ascribe glory to the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. The Voice of the Lord (vv. 3–9): Seven times the psalm repeats, “The voice of the Lord,” emphasizing God's command over the storm, from the seas to the mountains to the wilderness. The King on the Throne (vv. 10–11): The psalm concludes with the Lord enthroned forever, giving strength and peace to His people.Christ-Centered Hope: Jesus Christ, the eternal Word, calmed storms with His voice, bore cosmic judgment at the cross, and now gives His peace to His people.Resources & Next StepsJoin the free Navigator Level of the Lessons for Life Community: https://jameslongjr.org/communityExplore membership and coaching options: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnow ABOUT JAMES and LESSONS FOR LIFE Are you seeking hope, wisdom, and practical solutions to life's challenges? This psalm begins with groaning and ends with singing, showing us how to move from desperation to devotion, even when surrounded by lies, fear, or confusion.Psalm 5 offers a biblical pattern of prayer for the weary, the slandered, and the spiritually disoriented. If you are longing for direction, justice, or shelter, this psalm offers guidance and comfort.Key TakeawaysPrayer is not performance, but preparation. It is a priestly offering of your burdens to God.God's holiness and justice give clarity in a morally confused world. Our access to God is based on His steadfast love, not our moral record.God's righteousness leads us when life feels directionless.God is our shield and refuge, even when the world feels hostile or uncertain.Scripture FocusPsalm 5:1–12Romans 3:13Psalm 121:42 Samuel (context for David's struggle)Reflect and RespondWhat emotions do you most often carry into your mornings, and how can Psalm 5 reshape your daily rhythm? Are you carrying wounds from betrayal, slander, or misrepresentation? What would it look like to prepare your prayers intentionally each day?Where in your life do you need God to make a straight path right now?Do you truly believe that God's steadfast love secures your place in His presence?Who in your life needs encouragement and refuge right now?Resources and LinksJoin the Community: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnowFree Navigator Level: https://community.jameslongjr.orgSubscribe and FollowListen to Lessons for Life with James Long, Jr. on your favorite podcast platform:Apple Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/applepodcastSpotify: https://jameslongjr.org/spotifyAmazon Music: https://jameslongjr.org/amazonmusicGoogle Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/googlepodcastYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeConnect and ShareInstagram: @drjameslongjr – https://jameslongjr.org/instagramFacebook: https://jameslongjr.org/facebookYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeHashtag: #LessonsForLifePodcast ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life? In this episode of Undivided Birmingham, Dr. Chris Crain interviews Luke Long, our new BMBA Missions & Ministry Intern.  Luke, a student at Samford University, is currently pursuing a degree in Christian Ministry with a business minor. A native of Trussville, Luke grew up in a large family of ten—eight children, four biological and four adopted. As the third child in the family, Luke's upbringing was shaped by the lessons of faith, service, and community, values that continue to inspire his calling to ministry.  Ministry runs deep in Luke's family. His grandfather, James Long, serves as the Homebound Minister at First Baptist Church of Trussville, and his father, Alan Long, transitioned from 25 years of practicing medicine to serving as a Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Church of Trussville. Through their examples, Luke has gained valuable insight into what it means to serve others through the local church. “My parents never pushed a certain vocation on me or my siblings, but they have always been supportive of our callings. It's all about parents being supporters and cheerleaders for God's work in their children,” Luke said. Luke is eager to serve the BMBA in a variety of ways, assisting with tasks that support our churches and their ministries. He looks forward to guest teaching in student ministries and small groups, as well as preaching in churches throughout the association. “I am here to be a sponge and to teach what I have been taught,” he said. As his calendar begins to fill, Luke is enthusiastic about putting his education into practice and investing in the churches of the BMBA.  If you would like to have Luke speak at your church, you may contact him by email at LukeL@BMBAonline.org, or you may call him at (205)790-5448 or at the BMBA office at (205)599-3245.
