How did you respond? What would it look like to entrust your situation to God as your righteous judge? Are you trying to fight for justice in your own strength, or are you taking refuge in the Lord? What area of your life needs honest examination like David models in verses 3–5?What does it mean to you that God is your shield, even when others don't defend you?How can you begin to move from protest to praise before your situation is resolved?Resources and LinksJoin the Community: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnowFree Navigator Level: https://community.jameslongjr.orgSubscribe and FollowListen to Lessons for Life with James Long, Jr. on your favorite podcast platform:Apple Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/applepodcastSpotify: https://jameslongjr.org/spotifyAmazon Music: https://jameslongjr.org/amazonmusicGoogle Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/googlepodcastYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeConnect and ShareInstagram: @drjameslongjr – https://jameslongjr.org/instagramFacebook: https://jameslongjr.org/facebookYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeHashtag: #LessonsForLifePodcast ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life? In this episode of Counseling Through the Psalms, James Long, Jr. guides us through one of the most raw and vulnerable passages in the Psalter. We hear the groans of a broken soul and learn how honest lament can become the doorway to mercy.David's prayer teaches us that God's love does not wait until we are clean or composed. It meets us in the flood of tears. Whether you are battling depression, chronic pain, spiritual despair, or unresolved grief, Psalm 6 will lead you into hope—not by avoiding sorrow, but by facing it in the presence of God.Key TakeawaysGod's mercy is not delayed by our sin or our sorrow; it is steadfast and available.Lament is a form of worship. Honest cries of anguish are welcomed by God.Prayer is not based on how we feel but on who God is.Spiritual depression and emotional exhaustion are not signs of faithlessness.God's love can restore confidence even when circumstances remain the same.Scripture FocusPsalm 6:1–10Romans 5:8Psalm 121:42 Corinthians 1:3–4Reflect and RespondWhen was the last time you wept before the Lord? What kept you from turning to Him?Do you believe God's mercy is available even when you feel unworthy? What lies arise in your heart when sorrow makes God seem distant or silent? How does appealing to God's steadfast love change how you pray in pain? Are you allowing space for lament in your spiritual walk—or rushing past it?Who in your life needs a companion in sorrow—and how can Psalm 6 help you walk with them?Resources and LinksJoin the Community: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnowFree Navigator Level: https://community.jameslongjr.orgSubscribe and FollowListen to Lessons for Life with James Long, Jr. on your favorite podcast platform:Apple Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/applepodcastSpotify: https://jameslongjr.org/spotifyAmazon Music: https://jameslongjr.org/amazonmusicGoogle Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/googlepodcastYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeConnect and ShareInstagram: @drjameslongjr – https://jameslongjr.org/instagramFacebook: https://jameslongjr.org/facebookYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeHashtag: #LessonsForLifePodcast ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life? In this episode of Undivided Birmingham, Dr. Chris Crain interviews Luke Long, our new BMBA Missions & Ministry Intern.  Luke, a student at Samford University, is currently pursuing a degree in Christian Ministry with a business minor. A native of Trussville, Luke grew up in a large family of ten—eight children, four biological and four adopted. As the third child in the family, Luke's upbringing was shaped by the lessons of faith, service, and community, values that continue to inspire his calling to ministry.  Ministry runs deep in Luke's family. His grandfather, James Long, serves as the Homebound Minister at First Baptist Church of Trussville, and his father, Alan Long, transitioned from 25 years of practicing medicine to serving as a Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Church of Trussville. Through their examples, Luke has gained valuable insight into what it means to serve others through the local church. “My parents never pushed a certain vocation on me or my siblings, but they have always been supportive of our callings. It's all about parents being supporters and cheerleaders for God's work in their children,” Luke said. Luke is eager to serve the BMBA in a variety of ways, assisting with tasks that support our churches and their ministries. He looks forward to guest teaching in student ministries and small groups, as well as preaching in churches throughout the association. “I am here to be a sponge and to teach what I have been taught,” he said. As his calendar begins to fill, Luke is enthusiastic about putting his education into practice and investing in the churches of the BMBA.  If you would like to have Luke speak at your church, you may contact him by email at LukeL@BMBAonline.org, or you may call him at (205)790-5448 or at the BMBA office at (205)599-3245.

Send us a textCan you imagine a life where sinful anger no longer controls your actions or disrupts your spiritual journey? In our final episode of the "Uprooting Anger" series, we promise to equip you with the tools and insights needed to address this pervasive issue from a biblical perspective. Drawing wisdom from Robert D. Jones's book, we unravel why dealing with anger is imperative for followers of Christ. We dive into the heart of the matter, exploring the comprehensive and often self-centered roots of anger, as well as the profound impact it has on our relationship with God and our testimony to others. By understanding anger as a moral judgment that affects our thoughts, will, and behavior, you will be better prepared to uproot it with God's grace.Join us as we dissect the spiritual ramifications of harboring anger, bitterness, and malice, and explore how these emotions can grieve the Holy Spirit and distort our witness. Through scriptural reflections from Ephesians and James, we delve into how surrendering our anger to God allows us to reflect His righteousness and embody His love and peace. This episode encourages a journey of self-reflection, repentance, and a renewed commitment to living in holiness, urging us to confront sinful anger with love and reverence for God. As we wrap up this transformative series, we invite you to embrace the grace of the gospel and re-align your life with the peace and patience that God commands. Send us a textSilence isn't always golden, especially when it comes to standing firm in faith. Today, we're challenging the Church to break its silence on pivotal moral issues, drawing inspiration from courageous figures like the Hebrew midwives, Moses, and Queen Esther. These stories teach us that true faith cannot be hidden away; it demands public expression and unwavering courage. Let's explore how their examples urge us to confront modern challenges boldly and remind us that silence can sometimes equate to complicity. In a world where God-ordained institutions are under attack, Christians need a roadmap for resilience. The Book of James offers us five principles to stand firm, encapsulated in the acronym S-T-A-N-D. We'll discuss how these principles can help believers view trials as a gateway to spiritual growth and maturity. By focusing on God's sovereign plan, we can transform chaos into opportunities for our faith to thrive, resisting global pressures that aim to stifle our religious freedoms and moral compass.Words hold immense power, and today, we're harnessing that force for truth and love. With insights from James, we explore how the tongue, though small, can steer our lives toward wisdom or destruction. This episode is a clarion call for believers to act with conviction, letting their deeds speak louder than words, as demonstrated by Abraham and Rahab. As we reflect on the historical courage of figures like Sipra and Pua, we reaffirm our commitment to be lights in the world, praying for strength, integrity, and positive growth within our communities. Join us in the journey of being beacons of hope and resilience. ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life?
