Sinister Diesel, a California-based truck parts manufacturer, has been slapped with a heavy fine for selling devices that defeat a vehicle's emissions controls. For 10 years, Sinister manufactured and sold “delete devices” or “defeat devices” that allow vehicles like diesel trucks to dramatically increase the amount of pollutants they put in the air. The practice, often referred to as “rolling coal,” can cause engines to emit massive black clouds of exhaust fumes.According to the U.S. Justice Department, Sinister also sold “delete kits” that sometimes came bundled with “delete tunes,” third-party software that can make a vehicle with defeated emissions controls appear to run normally. The company is also accused of advising customers on the deleting process and on how to get around state emissions tests.
Mike Spagnola is the president of SEMA. Naturally we'll be talking about the EPA, the rise of EVs, and what the future of modded cars looks like. He's also built some seriously fast toys of his own, raced in open wheel, the Mint 400, and tracks an Ariel Atom. He's one of us. This conversation was fascinating. We talk about modified car trends; over-fenders; the overlanding explosion; what the EPA is trying to do to the car hobby; how SEMA's two Garages help small businesses build and test new parts (and get them approved by CARB); how SEMA is evolving; arrival of the EV swap; and why this year's SEMA is bigger than ever.Recorded May 25, 2023https://www.semashow.com/https://www.semagarage.com/ Go to blackvue.com/TST to learn more about the BlackVue DR970X series dash cams.

At first glance, Miles Traer seems like any other scientist, but this Stanford University geologist has an alter ego. He beats back the forces of environmental destruction and holds the super-powerful to account. Traer and two colleagues have calculated the carbon footprint for nine superheroes — and realized that Earth might be better off if they stopped trying to save it. Jeff and Anthony discuss whether or not this was worth the effort of some of our greatest thinkers. GET BONUS EPISODES, VIDEO HANGOUTS AND MORE. NOCLIP. Innovation comes standard. Apologies for missing a week, our Trauma Center episode will be going up this Saturday. In the meantime, what you're going to be listening to today is more of a general discussion podcast. We had the (retrospectively not super bright) idea of duct taping our microphone to the dashboard of my car while we took a trip and recorded our conversation. Because of this, the audio quality isn't up to our usual standard, but I think the discussion topics we cover warrant putting this out anyway. We're talking about the Wii U, Splatoon, Dark Souls, Fire Emblem, the Switch and we teach you about the West Virginia tradition of Rolling Coal. Hopefully this is a fun one for you guys and we'll be back on our regular schedule next week.
Glad to be back with you yet again, friends. Here are tenight's topics for discussion: The Volkswagen Fraud: Let's face it. Diesel engines stink—literally. Why did Volkswagen take the risk? How did they get away with it for so long? What deos the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) have to do with this?Hillary's Server: There is a lot of misinformation going around. What was Clinton's motivation for a "private" server? What is the difference between a private server and a private email address? What cyber attacks were used? What is the FBI investigation really looking for? What are the security implications? At this point, what can the FBI learn? The USA is a Third World Nation: Like the proverbial frog in a boiling pot, change—or lack of change—has happened so gradually that much has gone unnuticed. Nevertheless, we are becoming more and more like Obama's ideal country.Another Mass Shooting: It's too early to speculate about this one. Obama's reaction was predictable.RINOs: Will business as usual continue in Congress? Is it time for a government "shutdown?" Your opinion is welcome. Call in and tell us what you think: (310) 807-5158 or toll free (877) 878-1431
Rolling coal started when people with big diesel trucks held contests to see whose truck could pull the heaviest weight for the longest distance; however, for the most part, this crowd kept to themselves and contained their hobby to organized events. Now, it's a trend we see on the public streets. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
