The reasons for the giving of the law of God are multifaceted. In Judeo-Christian tradition, the giving of the law, particularly the Ten Commandments, is understood to serve several purposes: 1. Moral Guidance: The law provides a moral framework for human behavior, outlining what is right and wrong according to divine standards. It helps guide individuals and societies toward ethical living and harmonious relationships. 2. Identification of Sin: By delineating specific commandments, the law highlights human shortcomings and sinful tendencies. It reveals areas where individuals fall short of God's standards and need redemption or forgiveness. 3. Legal and Social Order: The law establishes a legal and social order that governs the conduct of individuals within a community. It sets boundaries for acceptable behavior and provides a basis for justice and accountability. 4. Covenant Relationship: In the context of the Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, and Christianity, the giving of the law is often associated with the establishment or renewal of a covenant between God and His people. Obeying the law signifies fidelity and commitment to this covenant relationship. 5. Education and Instruction: The law serves as a means of instruction and education, teaching individuals about God's character, His expectations, and the principles of righteousness. It provides a basis for spiritual growth and understanding. 6. Condemnation and Conviction: The law also functions to convict individuals of their sins and their need for repentance and reconciliation with God. It exposes the reality of human sinfulness and points to the need for redemption through faith and grace. Join us as we discuss why God gave the law and how the law applies to our lives today. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message
In the journey of following Christ, we can at times feel "stuck" or "plateaued" in our spiritual growth. Which can lead us to wonder or ask, "How do I grow in Christ?", "How do I find freedom from the pulls in my life that often ensnare me?", "How do I change?". Those are some of the questions that we'll be considering in this teaching series, in which we are seeking guidance from Scripture about how we get more rooted in Christ, experience more growth, and discover more power for this life with Jesus. Have you received an unexpected gift? A gift that you know you did not deserve or earn. How did this gift make you feel? If you are like me, it probably made you feel uncomfortable and thrilled at the same time. Although I am uncomfortable because I know I do not deserve the gift, I am delighted because I enjoy being surprised. In Matthew 7:11, Jesus says, "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" We have received the jackpot from God. A gift that can never be surpassed. I know I don't deserve it and can't earn it. God has provided a way for us to be made righteous before Him. This week, we'll explore God's blessing in Jesus Christ on the Biblical Insight With Pastor Joseph podcast. Together, we will unwrap the gift that changed everything. Salvation is the greatest gift that has ever been given or will ever be given. Even though we have tried our best to reject this gift, God continues to extend it to us. Romans 5:8 tells us, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." No matter how sinful we are, God loves us. He rejects sin, but He loves us - sinners. Seeking to show us how much He loves us, God sent His only begotten Son to take our place as a sacrifice for sin. As a result, Jesus received the sentence with our names on it, and we received the gift of eternal life. In our modern culture, salvation is too often overlooked. We seek to emphasize the visible over the invisible—the perishable over the eternal. We focus on this old world and the distractions it can offer instead of God and the new world He has waiting for us. We like to live as beggars when God has royalty awaiting us. Whenever our spirit seeks to translate us into the supernatural, our flesh seeks the ghetto. Like Eve, all we see is momentary advancement instead of living for lifelong achievement. Why should we live as outcasts when God has ordained us as His children? Why give up Heaven and eternity with our Father for the slums? The gift of salvation has been extended. All we have to do is open our hearts and accept it. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message
I've heard it said that how you finish your Christian walk is just as important as how you started it. Everyone who places their faith in Jesus and His finished work on the cross begins on the narrow path, but not everyone succeeds. It is too common for individuals to fall off the highway of holiness. In the end, they cannot resist the lure of this life. Little by little the devil leads them away from their first love. Instead of placing God at the center of their lives, they place the idols of this world on the throne. These individuals seek to quiet their restless souls and indulge in distractions that occupy their time and attention. This week's episode, on the Biblical Insight with Pastor Joseph podcast, explores the curves of the Christian walk that often trip up servants of Christ and transform them into servants of the devil. Diluting the Gospel with works is an age-old tale that is still being woven into today's fabric. Refusing to accept the finished work on the cross as sufficient for Salvation wayward souls plunder into the wilderness of sin. This story is not much different from the children of Israel. With selfish preservation and pride, they diluted the law of God after being rescued from Egyptian bondage. The generation that left Egypt gradually drifted away from their first love. Heaven cannot be earned through works. Your best effort is filthy before God. The blood of Jesus is the only thing that can guarantee your eternal security. If you try to work your way to God, you will end up empty-handed and wandering in the desert. Except for Caleb and Joshua, all the children of Israel who left Egypt never reached Canaan. Their works left them empty handed wondering in the wilderness for forty years. Yet, we gloss over this account. It's as if we turn a blind eye to warnings placed in the Bible for our instruction and correction. As a result of this reaction toward God's revealed will, we run the risk of repeating the mistakes of previous generations. Finishing the Christian walk is the most important part of life. Nothing can compare to this accomplishment. Living with God for all eternity is the goal of everyone who sets out on the narrow road, but only a few achieve it. The outcome of your Christian walk will be determined by your engagement with the Bible. You can't navigate your way to Heaven without a roadmap to Heaven. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message
In the book of Matthew Jesus tells us that whoever does not take up their cross and follow Him is not worthy of Him. This is a very blunt statement. Those who do not conform to the shape of the cross cannot be members of God's family. Like Jesus, we must be defined by the cross. The cross proclaims the selfless act of one man, Jesus, who took upon himself the sins of the world so that the world might have peace with God. Self-denial and sacrifice mold us into the shape of the cross. The cross is the only shape we are left with after giving up all the oddly shaped elements of the world. We are left with the basics of living - loving God and loving others. There is no room for ourselves in the cruciformed life. The cross only points vertically toward Heaven and horizontally toward our fellow man. Sacrificially pouring out oneself for someone else is not something to take lightly. Jesus said to count the cost before following Him. As you allow the Holy Spirit to mold your life into the shape of the cross, you will experience pain. It will cause you to see the real you. That part of you that refuses to let go of the things around you. Transformation comes at a cost. For the Holy Spirit's work to be perfected in your life, you must give up everything. Nothing can be left behind - it all must be laid on the altar. Your life will only take the shape of a cross when the Holy Spirit has complete control. God requires total surrender because He knows only a surrendered heart will be receptive to His plan. On this week's Biblical Insight With Pastor Joseph podcast, we discuss the cross as the centerpiece of Christianity. Through the cross, we find our identity in Christ and His finished work. Through the cross, we take courage in our daily struggle against the flesh that rails against the Spirit-led life. The cross is our anchor, identity, and source of hope. Our existence wouldn't be complete without the cross, since we were created for God's glory. Christ's work on the cross allows us to fulfill our God-given destiny - glorifying God through our existence. When God sees us He sees the sacrifice Jesus offered on the cross and this brings glory to Him. To become like Jesus, we must take up our cross deny our flesh, and live a life of obedience to the One who made us to bring Him glory. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message
Our topic for this week's Biblical Insight With Pastor Joseph is The Truth of the Gospel. Why is it essential to be grounded in the truth of the Gospel? False doctrines can easily lead us astray if we are not grounded in the true Gospel. False doctrines can be cloaked in legitimacy. There is a nugget of truth in almost every lie. This is what makes this fallacy so dangerous for Christians. The devil can trick us into believing false doctrine by threading it with truth. If we are not familiar with the Gospel or our Bible, we will fall for the enemy's tricks every time. The belief that baptism leads to Salvation is an example of false doctrine. While baptism is a sacred ordinance of the church, it is not a means of Salvation. Jesus' death on the cross is the only means of Salvation. The sacrifice of Jesus is all we need to be justified before God. To say that baptism is necessary for salvation is to say that Jesus' death was not sufficient to atone for our sins. This is blatant blasphemy. As a result of our belief in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, baptism serves as an outward expression of an inward work. Putting our faith in the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all unrighteousness, we are baptized in a public declaration of our private confession. Salvation is not dependent on baptism, but it can give you a wonderful opportunity to proclaim the transformation God has begun in your life. Often, we pursue careers, hobbies, and families at the expense of our Christian lives. The pursuit of careers, hobbies, and families isn't wrong, but they can become idols if we allow them to hinder our walk with God. Too many Christians are ignorant of true doctrine because they waste their time chasing idols. Let me remind you the things of the world will fade away. The only things that will remain are eternally established by God. Why spend your time entangled with the affairs of this life when you have an eternal life to prepare for? You need to be well-versed in the true doctrine of the Christian faith so you can withstand the onslaught of false doctrines that surround you. Stop spending time pining after worldly distractions instead spend time engaging in God's Word so you can withstand the fiery darts of the enemy. Eternity is waiting – shouldn't you be ready? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/support

Have you ever attempted to impress someone? Distressing to think they might be unhappy with you. We are constantly pressured by the world and our culture to conform to its standards, and please people. According to the Bible, this mindset is exactly the opposite of being a servant of Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, we are taught to be transformed. Conforming to worldly standards leaves us untransformed into Christ's image. Our eternal destiny can only be secured if we are Christ's servants. Listen to Pastor Joseph as he teaches that serving Christ is our mission - not pleasing people. In this episode, we see Paul's amazement at the apostate waywardness of the Galatian churches. While Christ's followers had begun the race with enthusiasm and joy, they turned to the idols of this world when faced with personal insecurity. In the Evangelical community, apostasy has been growing rapidly. Those who once followed the Gospel have turned to worldly gods. We are exhorted by Pastor Joseph to guard our hearts against this end-time tragedy. The devil is seeking whom he may devour, and the church is falling victim to his attacks. Don't start the race strong only to finish weak. Do not be tainted by worldliness - God has called us to holiness. Join Pastor Joseph in this powerful episode that kicks off an exciting series entitled "Gospel Rooted Living." This series is based on the Preaching Series book Galatians: Gospel Rooted Living by Todd Wilson. In this episode, Pastor Joseph teaches the first fundamental truth of Gospel Rooted Living - Go Back To Grace. Grace is the key to living according to God's plan. We are hopelessly lost in our sins without grace. Whenever we have blown it, strayed from God's will, and are on the verge of shipwreck, we go back to grace. There is no other way to receive justification. Salvation begins with grace and ends with grace. The unmerited favor of God enables us to enter into His presence. Only a Christian life rooted in His Gospel is acceptable to God, and grace is the beginning of the journey. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblical-insight/message

ROOTED: Living Scattered, Not Shattered ROOTED Leadership | 1 Peter 5:1-7 Christopher Rich – May 15, 2022
Good Morning! Happy Mother's Day! Welcome to Mercy Fellowship where we are Saved by Jesus Work, Changed by Jesus' Grace, and Living on Jesus's Mission. This week we are going to resume our series ROOTED: Living Scattered, Not Shattered. Many of us are realizing our roots are too shallow and weak to sustain us in the storms of life. We need good news greater than our current events. We need to be rooted in what is real, true, and eternal. When we are rooted in the transcendent, we are not reactive to the temporary.
So today we are talking about Loving like Jesus. I want to start with the heart of the passage. In 1 Peter 4:8 he says Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. If you get anything out of this message, it is a call from God to love one another earnestly. This is the key to understanding this passage. The Bible often talks about the importance of love: John 13:34–35 [34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. [35] By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (ESV) 1 John 4:20 [20] If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. (ESV) John 3:14 We know that awe have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. What Jesus says is that the essence of true Christian spirituality is to love
This week we are continuing our series in 1 Peter called ROOTED: Living Scattered, Not Shattered. Many of us are realizing our roots are too shallow and weak to sustain us in the storms of life. We need good news greater than our current events. We need to be rooted in what is real, true, and eternal. When we are rooted in the transcendent, we are not reactive to the temporary. Recap – Who are we? We are Living as Elect Exiles. ROOTED Identity, as elect exiles, loved, empowered, led by the trinity When are we in the story? Peter has also helped the people of God (who have understand where they are in the story of God (ROOTED Hope) He started with the end (destination) in mind, to inform how the engage with their present, while being encouraged by God's past Faithfulness. How do we grow and change? Good news for eternity should be good news for today. Our conduct matters to God, but it is a result of the transformation Christ has begun in us. Call to grow, change, holiness comes AFTER the Good News of the Gospel. A grace filled heart, and a truth filled mind, can produce a transformed life. To grow in Holiness is to grow in the purity, presence, power, purposes, and passion of God found in Jesus. What is God Building us into? Individual dignity is essential for flourishing, but our significance is exponentially greater when our identity is also part of a ROOTED People. To have faith in Jesus is to be part of his people. This then plays out in how we engage in key relationships both in the world with non-believers and with other Christians. 1 Peter 2:11-12 |11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

This week we are continuing our series in 1 Peter called ROOTED: Living Scattered, Not Shattered. Our recent lives and cultural moments have been characterized by personal trials, political unrest, cultural upheaval, health concerns, relational turmoil, economic uncertainty, and varying degrees of individual and corporate trauma. This has caused us to be highly reactive, often discouraged, and at times experiencing crushing despair. Our recent lives and cultural moments have been characterized by personal trials, political unrest, cultural upheaval, health concerns, relational turmoil, economic uncertainty, and varying degrees of individual and corporate trauma. What many in our society believed was a time of relative peace and prosperity has been uprooted as faith in our institutions, and even our neighbors, has been shattered and replaced with great fear, distrust, and division. This has caused us to be highly reactive, often discouraged, and at times experiencing crushing despair. The strength and stability of what we have been rooted in is revealed in times of great trial, suffering, or difficulty. Many of us are realizing our roots are too shallow and weak to sustain us in the storms of life. We need to be rooted in something deeper and more life giving than ourselves and our circumstances. We need to be rooted in a life that flows from the life giver, we need a real living hope beyond what we see and have now. We need good news greater than our current events. We need to be rooted in what is real, true, and eternal. When we are rooted in the transcendent, we are not reactive to the temporary.
Who am I? This is an existential question of identity we all wrestle with. It is essential to understand who we are first for us to effectively navigate what we do and how we respond to the world around us. While we grow and change during our lives, our sense of identity must remain rooted in something or someone greater than us. Who is Peter? (1:1a) - Fisherman to Fisher of Men – Peter, a working fisherman, was met by Jesus during his daily life. He was called by Jesus to leave his nets and join Christ's mission. Brash, impulsive, foolish, and faithful, Peter imperfectly followed Jesus as a key part of His ministry. The night of Jesus' arrest and trial Peter, in fear, famously denied Jesus three times. His failure did not define him though, as the resurrected Jesus restored Peter and continued to be the “rock” Jesus used to build His church. With both humility and authority Peter writes to give hope to the church. Who are We? (1:1b) - Elect Exiles – The people of God in the world have paradoxical identity. We are simultaneously chosen by God yet chastised by culture. We are gathered together in Christ, yet scattered in the world. We are part of a new kingdom, yet living in a foreign land. We are strangers (sojourners) in the familiar places we dwell yet destined for a forever home we have never known. While currently persecuted we are promised eternal blessing. Who is God? (1:2a) – Trinity – Our identity is not rooted in what we have done, but in what God has done for us. God alone, three-in-one, saves and sustains. We are chosen based on Father's past plan. We are purified by Holy Spirit's present power in us. We follow faithfully because of the Son's work to save us on the cross and His future promise to return. What is He accomplishing? (1:2b) – Exponential Blessing – Regardless of present circumstances, we are assured God is at work giving grace to His people and making peace for His people.

In this second part of Romans 6, Pastor Dave lays out in 5 practical steps how we defeat sin. The steps include knowing our position in Christ and then responding to that position. The steps are: 1. You are justified by faith. 2. You died with Christ and rose with Him to new life. 3. So consider yourselves dead to sin. 4. Do not let sin reign in your members. 5. Give yourself to God and your members to righteousness.
Part Three of Romans is about living the Christian life. So far we have looked at condemnation and justification. Today we start sanctification. Sanctification is God's work of making us more like Christ. This week's message starts with: "Why we should not jump ahead to the application of Paul's books without first understanding the theological foundation?"
The results of Adam and Eve's disobedience have reached through the centuries. Two of those consequences are a broken relationship with God and the decay and death of all creation. Romans 8 says that all of creation was subjected to the curse unwillingly, but with hope. Things like the coronavirus are results of that curse and the decay of creation. In both cases the Gospel brings solid hope.

Living by faith is the point of Romans 4. It is by faith alone, in Christ alone, for His glory alone. In this text, Pastor Dave reminds us that Old & New testament people are saved by faith in Christ alone: Some looking forwards, and us looking backwards.
How can anyone be righteous apart from their behavior? The answer is in Romans 3:21 and following. There is a righteousness that was promised 430 years before the Law of Moses was given. It is revealed in Jesus Christ and is accessible in only one way... Listen and find out.
Many Jews thought their place in heaven was reserved because they were Jewish, and because they had been circumcised. Once Paul explains that neither will save them, they are left wondering, "What is the benefit of being Jewish?" In the same way, you don't get to heaven by being Catholic or Protestant or by being baptized. So what's the benefit? In this message, Pastor Dave explains the great benefit of having the words of God.
What happens to people who have no access to a Bible? Paul anticipates the question as he shares how people are judged who have the law and how they are judged without the law. In this message we look at the truth that God has written his law on our hearts.
In this message we talk about the danger of self-righteousness. We tend to label some sins terrible and some sins excusable. When we think too much of ourselves and minimize our need for grace, we are blind to how kind God's mercy really is. The kindness of God should lead us all to repentance.
In episode 47 Catri is in conversation with Intuitive Living Coach, author and speaker Pandora Paloma. The founder of Rooted Living dives deep into intuitive eating - how you can find a peaceful relationship with food, intuitive living - how you can live with purpose and be magnetic, and intuitive business - how to work authentically. Pandora also shares her expert tips for making the most of the upcoming new year, and decade. Leave a rating and review telling us what resonated with you most.
We must use recognize that Paul's approach was the approach of Christ- -appeal to their heart and seek to win their heart for Christ's sake.-we will not do this by the Law but by the Gospel. Too often we can seek to win others to our perspective or to our goals or our position - it must always be that we seek Christ formed in them, the hope of glory.
This week on the podcast Selina interviewed Pandora Paloma, Intuitive Living Coach, Founder of ROOTED LIVING and author of her brand new book ‘Intuitive Living: 6 weeks to self-love, intuitive eating & reclaiming your mind-body connection’ It is SUCH a good book. So beautifully written - smart, wise, loving, just like Pandora
In this episode discuss: * the differences between being physically and emotionally full * the binge / purge pattern * themes of restriction * food and metaphors * the skills needed to learn to overcome disordered eating such as assertive communication and compassionate curiosity.
The Story of the Good Samaritan is well know by many. But sometimes we miss the whole point of the story if we see it simply as a message to do good and not as Jesus taught it. To really understand the story we need to start with the reality that we are the person who is halfdead in need of rescue and there is only ONE who can truly rescue and heal us. When we have received what Jesus alone can give then we are freed to live loved to the people around us!

God's desire is clear. He loves people. He wants to free you from your sin. He wants to involve you in His mission. He wants to do something in you and through you that can't possibly be explained because of you. And you are not alone. Of all the ways God could have chosen to share His hope, He chose us.

At the heart of gospel-rooted living is a life of sacrifice for the good of others. The Apostle Paul declares that Christ lives in him and his is a crucified life, demonstrable by the whipping and stoning he suffered for the sake of spreading the...
