Parents, do you find it challenging sometimes to connect with your children in deeper and meaningful ways? Are you often tired, on a screen, or honestly don't know what to do to better create a special moment with your child? In this episode, guest host Jordan Linscombe covers his top 10 tips to help parents better connect in genuine ways with their children. Jordan & Mindi Linscombe have been married since 2005, parent four wonderful children, and lead four companies and a foundation. While life is full, they've learned several ways of prioritizing the precious moments and hours they have with their kids. It's natural that all working parents get tired and want to have a break. However, the Linscombes have found it helpful to use some key approaches that keep their kids engaged and feeling loved. Jordan's Valuable 10 Tips Are: Use four objects and have your children share a creative story. This could be items on a meal table or stuffed animals at bed time. Watch their creativity emerge and they unpack new stories for you. Carpet Time. Get down and play with them on the ground. Whether it's legos, tea parties, or whatever speaks their language...take time to be on their level and connect. If you have toddlers…really get down on their level and switch the power dynamics. Let them touch you on the nose or forehead and you fall over. Let them be the big, strong person. Watch the smiles!Work travel. Tell your children relevant details about your work travel. Work travel is important and essential for some jobs. However, you can invite your children into the process. Ask them to pray and give ideas for your trip. Report back on how the trip went. Don't make the trip more important than them and keep them engaged in conversation on the outcomes and how their prayers and ideas are a part of the process.Ask kids opinions on others. They can often discern things that you may not pick up on in other people. Create and reference a family key word. Let them help frame it out. The Linscombe Family key word is HOPE. Create intentional dinners & conversations. Prepare good questions & topics to discuss during family meals. Have special guests or grandparents help reinforce key ideas you are teaching your children. Snuggle & read together with your kids at bedtime. It takes time but is totally worth it. And, you'll only be able to do this for a limited amount of years. Ask them they're high, low, and "buffalo" for the day. A buffalo moment is a surprise moment they did not expect during the day. Schedule and create one on one time with your child. Take them to breakfast. Get them outdoors. Do something memorable that exposes them to fun memories with you. *** Connect with Jordan Linscombe:
