It has been said that that which is built in the flesh is maintained by the flesh, but that which is built in the Spirit is maintained by the Spirit. So, what does that phrase mean? In this program, Chip Ingram will explore that answer as he interviews his close friend and marketplace leader, Gregg Dedrick. Join us as we learn through Gregg's life story how to build your life on God instead of chasing after earthly fulfillment.Main Points Building in the Flesh vs. Building in the Spirit: Building in the Flesh: Attempting to live the Christian life through personal effort, willpower, and self-sufficiency, which often leads to burnout and discouragement. Building in the Spirit: Surrendering to God and partnering with Him, which leads to a more fulfilling and sustainable Christian life. Gregg Dedrick's Journey: Corporate Success: Gregg achieved significant success in the corporate world, including roles as chief people officer and president of KFC. Burnout: Despite his achievements, he experienced burnout in both business and ministry, feeling that there had to be more to life than what he was experiencing. The Turning Point: Surrender: Gregg's journey began with a surrender to God, recognizing his own self-sufficiency and the need for divine help. Intimacy with God: He realized that his faith had become more of a code of ethics rather than a genuine relationship with God. This led him to explore a deeper intimacy with God. Key Insights: Adoration Prayer: Gregg discovered adoration prayer as a way to build intimacy with God, focusing on loving God for who He is rather than for what He does. Misplaced Identity: He acknowledged that his identity and relationship with God had been performance-based, leading to a shaky and conditional relationship with God. Transformation and Impact: Shift from Devotion to Discipline: He transitioned from a focus on performing religious duties to a disciplined approach to devotion that opened his heart to God. Impact on Relationships: This new understanding improved his relationships, including his marriage, by fostering a deeper and more genuine connection with others. Practical Application: Partnership with God: Building in the Spirit involves partnering with God rather than relying solely on one's own efforts. This approach leads to a more authentic and fulfilling spiritual life. Book Recommendation: "Building in the Spirit: Discovering the Life God Destined for You": Gregg's experiences and insights are detailed in this book, which is recommended for those who feel burned out or are struggling with a performance-based faith. Final Thoughts: Working from Value: Understanding that God's love and validation are the foundation of our work and partnership with Him brings joy and removes the pressure of performance. Cultivating a strong friendship with God is all about building a close and meaningful relationship with the divine. Just like how we nurture friendships with people, we can also nurture our bond with God. It involves spending time in prayer or meditation, reading sacred texts, and reflecting on our beliefs and values. Developing this friendship can bring comfort, guidance, and a sense of purpose to our lives. It's a journey of trust, love, and understanding, where we seek to connect with the divine presence that many believe watches over us and cares for us. Individuals often turn to their religious scriptures, mentors, or trusted community members for support and wisdom in this pursuit. They strive to live per their beliefs and values, seeking to grow spiritually and morally. Building a strong relationship with God can provide solace in difficult times and a sense of gratitude in moments of joy.  In this episode of The His and Her Money Show, we are joined by Faith Eury Cho, an international speaker, pastor, church planter, CEO of a nonprofit, and the author of Experiencing Friendship with God, to talk about building a strong friendship with God. Faith shares her journey in Christianity, the experience that led her to be in a place of resentment toward God, and Tips for building a strong friendship with God despite the destructions of the world. She also explains the benefits of being friends with God and the effects of not cultivating a strong friendship with Him. Tune in to learn more! Are you hungry for something more in life? In the town of Jericho, a tax collector named Zacchaeus discovered a hunger that money couldn't satisfy. His encounter with Jesus led to a radical transformation that defied societal expectations. The conversion of Zacchaeus reveals valuable truths that resonate with us even today. First, Jesus seeks us intentionally. Our encounters with Him are not mere accidents but purposeful interactions that can change our lives forever. Jesus knows our hearts and chooses those ready to receive His mercy, regardless of societal opinions. Zacchaeus's opulent life lacked genuine fulfillment until he encountered Jesus, the friend who bridged the gap of evangelism. Loneliness can afflict us all, and Jesus' example shows the power of offering friendship to those in need. Furthermore, the story emphasizes the significance of patience. Jesus didn't present Zacchaeus with a list of requirements but allowed the Holy Spirit to work in his heart, leading to true repentance and a new life. Similarly, we must learn to let the Holy Spirit work in others, encouraging them to open up every compartment of their lives to Jesus. In this journey, failures and mistakes are not dead ends but stepping stones to growth. Embracing the process and seeking joy in Jesus, rather than running from pain, allows God to transform our scars into testimonies of healing and triumph. So, are you ready to encounter Jesus and experience a transformation like Zacchaeus did? Let the hunger for God lead you to embrace His friendship, find patience in your encounters, and allow the Holy Spirit to work within you. When you welcome Jesus into your life, everything changes – and true joy becomes your companion in every circumstance. Subscribe to Our Channel!   New to LifeRock? This week we are continuing our series in 1 Peter called ROOTED: Living Scattered, Not Shattered. Many of us are realizing our roots are too shallow and weak to sustain us in the storms of life. We need good news greater than our current events. We need to be rooted in what is real, true, and eternal. When we are rooted in the transcendent, we are not reactive to the temporary. Recap – Who are we? We are Living as Elect Exiles. ROOTED Identity, as elect exiles, loved, empowered, led by the trinity When are we in the story? Peter has also helped the people of God (who have understand where they are in the story of God (ROOTED Hope) He started with the end (destination) in mind, to inform how the engage with their present, while being encouraged by God's past Faithfulness. How do we grow and change? Good news for eternity should be good news for today. Our conduct matters to God, but it is a result of the transformation Christ has begun in us. Call to grow, change, holiness comes AFTER the Good News of the Gospel. A grace filled heart, and a truth filled mind, can produce a transformed life. To grow in Holiness is to grow in the purity, presence, power, purposes, and passion of God found in Jesus. What is God Building us into? Individual dignity is essential for flourishing, but our significance is exponentially greater when our identity is also part of a ROOTED People. To have faith in Jesus is to be part of his people. This then plays out in how we engage in key relationships both in the world with non-believers and with other Christians. 1 Peter 2:11-12 |11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
