Thankfully, our guest Ryan Cadaver of The Casket Creatures & Neon Warlords is eager for a chance to escape the wall and join Erin & Gary as they discuss their first & favorite haunts, the Haunted Mansion, extreme haunts (aka getting Hostel'ed), year round haunts, the line between a ghost tour & haunts, dark rides, hell houses, and more! This special episode of the Needless Things Podcast was recorded LIVE at Atlanta Comic Con 2019! Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman changed Hollywood forever. The merchandising and marketing were unlike anything that the world had seen before, with Warner Bros. pushing the movie so strongly that it almost had to be a success. And it certainly was. While the movie itself merits hours of conversation, Needless Things Irregulars Dave West, Ryan Cadaver, Nicole Ghouled-Cadaver, and Chad J. Shonk presented this panel to a live Atlanta Comic Con audience to take a focused look at the cultural phenomenon surrounding the movie’s release. From the shirts, toys, trading cards, stationary, and pool toys to the endless periodicals detailing every aspect of the film’s production, the team shares their fondest memories of that singular point in time. Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! What better way to kick off another Needless Summer than with a trip to the ocean with Steve Zissou? This month’s Commentary was chosen by Ryan Cadaver, but is mutually adored throughout the team. Bill Murray leads one of the most remarkable casts ever assembled in what might be Wes Anderson’s most mainstream and watchable film. While the trademark unique, quirky style is present in abundance, The Life Aquatic’s narrative is fast-paced and perhaps more of a standard cinematic storytelling experience than any other Anderson film. Listen in as Dave, Arian, Ryan, and Nicole raid the Hennessey Sea Lab for this month’s Needless Commentary! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! We’re on the Road to WrestleMania, so it’s time for a wrestling-adjacent Commentary! Stone Cold Steve Austin is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, so it seemed right to choose one of his films – Hunt to Kill! Part Commando, part The Most Dangerous Game, and all whoop-ass action, this 2010 action flick pits the Rattlesnake against a motley crew of criminals. Among the supporting cast are Michael Eklund, Eric Roberts, and a scenery-chewing Gil Bellows of Ally McBeal fame! Dave, Ryan Cadaver, and Nicole Ghouled caught an early sneak preview of Robert Rodriguez' adaptation of the classic manga, Battle Angel Alita this past Monday. All three were so enthralled by and impressed with the movie that they had to get together to discuss it for this week's episode of the Needless Things Podcast! Starting with the manga in 1990 and then the animated adaptation in 1993, the story of this warrior has been inspiring fans for decades. Battle Angel draws from many classic genre styles while retaining a unique voice and style of its own. Those same inspired fans have been curious about a live action adaptation, and when James Cameron announced his intention to create one, things seemed promising. The production process, however, was a long one. This left many doubting the project would ever truly see the light of day. But then the pieces starting coming together, with the unparalleled Robert Rodriguez as director, Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg, and perhaps most impressively, Cristoph Waltz as Dr. Ido. With such a promising team assembled, the ambitious film was a go and is now ready to be unleashed upon the world to inspire a whole new generation! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! This ain’t Memphis, but that doesn’t mean that the Commentary Team can’t double down on the Double Deuce with this classic 80s action flick! The Irregulars have been clamoring for a Roadhouse Commentary since the beginning, and after establishing that January was a very Swayze month, indeed, it was determined that it was time to not be nice! Ryan Cadaver stops by the Phantom Zone to discuss the newest entry into whatever the heck Warner Bros. is doing with their DC Comics properties this week! We all know that Dave and Ryan look upon the DC Extended Universe a bit more favorably than most. While its had its ups and downs, overall it has still produced the most epic DC Comics movies of all time. While Wonder Woman was a course correction, Aquaman appeared to be a wild, swerving right-angle turn away from dark grittiness and into big, colorful fun. Nobody could be sure how well the film would succeed, but with director James Wan's vision and star Jason Momoa's pecs, it was bound to be something very different. Listen in as Dave and Ryan run down the new film and determine if, how, and why it's better than the rest! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! In an almost Santa Claus-like manner, our friend Chad J. Shonk swooped in to save the holidays with some Star Wars magic in the form of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure! In 1984, George Lucas wanted some of that sweet, sweet television revenue but was still smarting from the hideous embarrassment of the Star Wars Holiday Special. So he took the reins himself and oversaw production on an all-new adventure featuring the inhabitants of Endor’s moon. That’s right – we here at Needless Things can’t go a Christmas season without some good, old-fashioned Star Wars action, so it’s time to sit down and snuggle with the Galaxy’s most lovable little cannibals, the Ewoks! Listen in as Dave, Battle Cougar, Ryan Cadaver, Rad Ranger, Arian, and special guest Chad J. Shonk travel to a galaxy far, far away for this month’s Needless Commentary! This special episode of the Needless Things Podcast presents the exploration of Corpsewood Manor, the site of murders that shocked Georgia in the early 1980s. Dave, Ryan Cadaver, and Rad Ranger traveled to Trion, Georgia to examine the once majestic ruins of the ill-fated paradise. In December of 1982 Dr. Charles L. Scudder and his partner, Joseph Odom were murdered inside their dream home in the remote woods of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The openly gay couple had a reputation for Satanism and homemade drugs, and were despised by some in the local community.Listen in as the Needless Commentary crew investigates the occurrence and explores the site in the newest episode of the Needless Things Podcast!Be sure to join the Needless Things Podcast Facebook Group and get in on the conversation for this week’s episode! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!Special guests Mr. Beau Brown and Award-Winning Bobby Nash join the Commentary Team for the 1987 Masters of the Universe!Thirty years ago children all over the world were disappointed by Cannon's live action adaptation of Mattel's Masters of the Universe toy line. While director Gary Goddard, production designer William Stout, and the rest of the cast and crew worked their hardest to create an epic science fiction and fantasy experience, The Cannon Group's notorious budget limitations kept them from providing the movie fans wanted. Now, three decades later and thirty years wiser, the Needless Commentary team reviews He-Man's Hollywood debut to see if there are, perhaps, redeeming qualities that were missed the first time around. Or if not, if the movie is at least better than Krull!Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Bobby Nash, Beau Brown, Arian, and Ryan Cadaver gather in the Phantom Zone to offer up their thoughts on this 1987 Courtney Cox classic!Be sure to join the Needless Things Podcast Facebook Group and get in on the conversation for this week’s episode! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!Arian's birthday is in June, so he got to pick this month's legendary superhero film – Trey Parker's Orgazmo!Perhaps not as well known as South Park, Team America, or Cannibal: The Musical, this film is not appropriate for anyone under the age of 17. Or over. It's an early example of Parker's obsession with Mormonism, and also with porn. Orgazmo is the story of an earnest young Mormon and his unwitting recruitment into the porn induistry. And also the world of crimefighting. In the newest episode of the Needless Things Podcast Phantom Troublemaker, Mike Gordon, and Ryan Cadaver talk LIVE in the Phantom Zone about Ridley Scott’s newest outer space epic! There’s been a whole lotta aliens goin’ on lately around Needless Things, and there’s no better way to put a lid on it (for now) than with a discussion about the newest entry in the franchise, Alien: Covenant. Claiming to be both a follow-up to the divisive Prometheus and a prequel to the classic Alien, Covenant had a weighty task to accomplish. Find out if Scott and company delivered a satisfying film that connected his other works or if this new movie goes off the rails into the cinematic dumpster! Cover Art by Vance Kelly Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! Continuing the Alien-centric themes of the last few episodes, this month’s Commentary is James Cameron’s masterpiece, Aliens! After seeing Ridley Scott’s Alien in glorious RPX, there was no way the Needless Commentary team could do anything but watch the incredible – and vastly different – 1986 sequel. While Scott’s film delivered unparalleled atmosphere and suspense, Cameron’s follow-up used tight action, military-industrial intrigue, and blazing bombast. Utilizing a cast that would become very well known to fans of 80s action, Cameron went in an entirely different direction and created a different kind of blockbuster. Phantom Troublemaker, Mike Gordon, and Ryan Cadaver discuss Alien and special bonus footage from Alien: Covenant after a Regal RPX screening on Alien Day, 4/26! Alien is one of the greatest movies of all time and April 26th has been designated (in a clever marketing move by FOX) as Alien Day! This is a reference to LV-426, the planet where the colonists had some bad times in Alien. Obviously Needless Things had to celebrate this momentous occasion, so Phantom organized a field trip to scenic and decaying Downtown Atlanta for a very special screening of Ridley Scott's (and Dan O'Bannon's and Ronald Shussett's) classic horror film. Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!Special Guest Mr. Beau Brown chooses this month’s movie – the 1983 sci-fi/fantasy cult classic, Krull! Thanks to Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian science fiction and fantasy were hot genres in the early 80s. Movies that blended the two were always exciting prospects for Hollywood, which is how an original idea like Krull ended up with a $47,000,000 budget, quite large for the time (equivalent to roughly $115,000,000 today). Krull was not a critical success and bombed spectacularly at the box office, bringing in just 16.5 million dollars. Like many underappreciated films it has gone on to achieve cult status. Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Rad Ranger, Arian, Ryan Cadaver, and special guest Mr. Beau Brown gather in the Phantom Zone to offer up their thoughts on this 1983 cult classic! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! Filmmaker Andy Sidaris left the world the gift of twelve unparalleled works of cinematic art before he shuffled off this mortal coil. Sidaris had a taste for guns, beaches, ripped bros, and sweet titties. His aesthetic was uniquely suited to the era in which he released his films; from 1985 to 1998. It's tough to find auteurs of Sidaris' caliber in modern times, so we must look to the past for gems like Hard Ticket to Hawaii. Chosen by Ryan Cadaver as March's Needless Commentary, Hard Ticket is such a glorious affair that it was once featured on the long-lost Attack of the Show. Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!Released on May 13th, 1994, Alex Proyas's The Crow was the graphic, edgy comic book movie that fans had been wanting since 1989's Batman. The trendsetting soundtrack helped the movie launch a new era of Goth culture while the dark themes of the movie inspired countless teens to don black and start acting all swoopy and dramatic. Additionally, the tragic on-set death of promising actor Brandon Lee will forever mar this singular film, but at the same time adds an unmatchable gravitas and heaviness.Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Rad Ranger, Ryan Cadaver, and special guest Mike Gordon gather in the Phantom Zone to offer up their thoughts on this 1994 cult classic!Play along at home with your own copy from Amazon and help support Needless Things!: Be sure to join the Needless Things Podcast Facebook Group and get in on the conversation for this week’s episode! Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films! In the mysterious depths of Phantom Troublemaker’s psyche there exists a very special list of films from the 80s. These are categorized as “The HBO Movies”. Thirty years ago premium cable television wasn’t what it is today and the same rotations of a dozen or so movies would play regularly for months. Many of the films that shaped Phantom were part of that ages-old pattern and were seen many times over the course of that magical decade. The Ice Pirates is one of those cherished movies. Starring Robert Urich and featuring cameos from the likes of Anjelica Huston, John Carradine, Bruce Vilanch(!) and even a babyfaced Ron Perlman, The Ice Pirates is an often overlooked piece of genre entertainment that blends science fiction, comedy, and swashbuckling action into an unforgettable outer space adventure!Listen in as Phantom Troublemaker, Rad Ranger, Arian Gulick, Ryan Cadaver, and special guest R.T.
