From modern amenities like a reverberation room to a rooftop bar that sets your sights on the breathtaking ATL skyline, this episode covers all the exciting developments and why this destination should be your next booking. Before republishing quotes, we ask that you reference the audio. Ryan Embree: Welcome to Suite Spot, where hoteliers check in, and we check out what's trending in hotel marketing. I'm your host, Ryan Embree. Hello Everyone. Welcome to another episode of The Suite Spot. This is your host, as always, Ryan Embree. If you're watching us on YouTube, as you can tell, we are not in the content creation studio. So that must mean we are here on site, part of our Suite Spot Spotlight series. I'm here with Derek at the Reverb by Hard Rock Atlanta. Derek, thank you so much for inviting us here. Derek Sumpter : It's absolutely my pleasure. Happy to have you here. Thanks for coming. Ryan Embree: Absolutely. And let me tell you, there's just an energy walking into this place. We're gonna talk a lot about this because this, this is really fits the bill with this series. And if you're listening or watching us for the first time, our Suite Spot Spotlight series is all about highlighting those unique and historic hotels in our industry across the country. This property certainly fits the bill, but this is your first time on the Suite Spot. Yes, it does. We like to talk to hospitality professionals and hear their stories. We know it's such a sometimes career paths. Take us all over the place where we start. Tell us a little bit about your journey to the Reverb. Derek Sumpter : Alright, sounds great. Well, I've been in the hospitality business since I was roughly 10 years old. Growing up my family had restaurants. So from the time I was seven, eight years old, I was washing dishes in my family's restaurants. With that being said, went to college, was not planning on being in the hotel business. I happened to get a job as a room service waiter at a hotel, and kind of fell in love with it, fell in love with the day to day, fell in love with something different. I liked the energy of it all. And no two days were ever the same. So with that being said, just really kind of worked my way up the ranks and wound up here in downtown Atlanta at the beautiful Reverb by Hard Rock. So, you know, it's been a long, it's been a long journey. You know, Florida, uh, New York City, Little Rock, Arkansas, and I worked, did 20 years with Marriott. So this is kind of my first stint with Hard Rock, and with this brand, but definitely happy that I found them. They found me, I should say. Ryan Embree: So, yeah. Well, it certainly matches the energy. Let me tell you that the property does, and, you know, a couple couple things we always hear, right. Not expecting to be in the industry. Fell in love with the industry. Those are two common threads that we hear all the time from people that we interview. That's true. Just like your yourself. And it's just all about people serving people. And we need more of these stories. I talk to industry leaders all the time. We need more of these stories so we can share what a career in hospitality looks like. Because there are a lot of people out there that might not be thinking about a hospitality. They fall into it and all of a sudden you're here at the reverb. Derek Sumpter : I would say most of the people that I know that are in the hospitality industry, were not planning to be in the hospitality industry before they started into it, you know, so it, it's amazing how everybody,

Sine Die is just days away. WABE politics reporters Sam Gringlas and Rahul Bali return to “Closer Look,” to discuss proposed bills that have stalled and others that are advancing as the 2024 Georgia legislative session comes close to an end. Insert: We revisit Rose's conversation with Steve Davis, the assistant vice president of transportation strategy for Smart Growth America. He discusses his organization's report “Divided by Design.” The report looks at historical data of how one built and one unbuilt highway in Atlanta and Washington D.C. have disproportionately impacted Black residents and what could be done today to address the harm caused by the highways. Atlanta is one of many cities dealing with the harms of inequitable interstate projects. On Monday during Mayor Andre Dickens' State of the City address, he talked about his transportation plan, which involves the creation of a new MARTA train station at Murphy Crossing, the first of four additional in-fill stations. He also talked about the city receiving $157 million in federal funds for the Stitch project. Rose talks with A.J. Robinson, the president of Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, about the development project that aims to connect three areas within Downtown Atlanta. It involves creating approximately 14 acres of urban green space along with affordable housing options and transportation enhancements.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
You may have read about the shipping containers converted to housing for unsheltered people in Downtown Atlanta. It's called The Melody and it's the product of a City of Atlanta initiative for finding land the city owns and potentially using it for housing. The effort is supported by an analysis of city properties done by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). We talk with Kyle Wedberg, Ph.D. Senior Manager, Research and Consulting at GFOA about that analysis, and with Joshua Humphries, Senior Housing Advisor to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. The great value of making better use of the city's land is clear. But can we also make sure the results are putting lower-income residnets in homes that are part of walkable, transit-served neighborhoods? Tex McIver is a prominent Atlanta Lawyer, Vice Chair of the State Elections Board, and his wife, Diane, is a beautiful, incredibly successful business woman in her own right. They are married 11 years, but on a September night, Tex McIver shoots his wife in the back, killing her. Diane McIver is shot inside a Ford Expedition she is riding in with her husband and a close family friend. They are returning home from their ranch in Putnam County late on Sunday night. Diane is in the front passenger seat, Tex is in the back seat. Dani Jo Carter is driving the SUV back from the Ranch to the Condo in Buckhead when the interstate traffic gets heavy and she takes an exit into Downtown Atlanta. McIver tells the police it was a bad area and he asked his wife to hand him his gun. He said it was in the center console up front. Diane McIver hands Tex his gun. McIver says soon they were out of danger and he fell asleep. He wakes up when Dani Jo stops the car and somehow the gun fired. As friends come to offer condolences on the passing of his wife, most expect to see Tex McIver upset, in shock that he accidentally shot his wife, the love of his life, and caused her death. Instead, they find a man who seems more concerned about money. Within two days of Diane's death, Tex is asking about his wife's Social Security benefits. Then Tex McIver seems to be investigating how to liquidate his late wife's assets. Tex McIver organizes many of his wife's possessions to sell at an auction as part of an estate sale. Tex McIver said he was liquidating things to settle his wife's estate. McIver sold everything he could of his wife's clothing, jewelry, furs, hats, just about everything. The sale lasted several days. It was later revealed that Tex McIver owed his wife nearly $350,000 which she loaned him for a barn he built on the ranch for guests on their estate The Atlanta Police eventually came to the decision to charge Tex McIver with involuntary Manslaughter and reckless conduct in the shooting death of his wife. The charges seem to suggest that they believe Tex McIver's claim that the shooting was an accident. The day after a judge sends McIver to jail, McIver is indicted on a charge of malice murder along with six other charges including three counts of influencing a witness. November 15th Podcast Welcome to your Paulding County News Podcast. I'm Melissa Carter, along with Doug Harding. If someone's kid was misbehaving in public, would you say anything? And we have a story that may change the way you sleep at night. But first… PC News The Paulding County Sheriff's office needs your help in finding a missing person. Shakir Jackson was last seen on November 1st by family members before leaving their home in Dallas. It is not believed that Jackson left under duress or was considering self-harm, but he does have multiple health issues and requires daily medication that he might or might not have with him. If anyone has any information on his whereabouts, please call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Tip Line at (770) 443-3047 or via the Paulding Sheriff mobile app. This from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. PC News Samuel McClure Sr., the first Black chairman of Paulding County's board of education, has passed away. His family shared the news, expressing both mourning and rejoicing for his peaceful departure last week. McClure served as the assistant principal at Paulding County Junior High and principal at Herschel Jones Junior High and Herschel Jones Middle School. Superintendent Steve Barnette praised McClure's lasting impact, and asked all schools in the district to hold a moment of silence in his honor. This from WSB. PC News Veteran's Day celebrations took place over the weekend, and with it a new Veteran's Day memorial…but it's not your typical monument. It all started with an idea to replace trees lost to construction. Now, it's become a beautiful community greenspace and a tribute to our military heroes. The project, located at Seven Hills Boulevard and Sugar Mist Drive, boasts 25 October Glory maple trees and will soon feature a plaque honoring our brave servicemen and women. Georgia Sen. Jason Anavitarte shared his excitement, stating, "These efforts will enhance our county and impact future generations for years to come. This from the AJC. A woman in Missouri woke up to find something that she, nor you, will never forget. I hope you can handle it. And when kids misbehave in public, is it your job to say something. We'll talk about it, but now let's check the weather for Paulding County… Weather Rain brings cool temperatures tomorrow, otherwise cloudy skies this week with highs in the upper 60's and Low's around 50. Arrest Report From NewsBreak and Fox 5… A Gwinnett County mother, Brittany George, is facing criminal charges after an altercation at Walmart last month. Police say Brittany George was confronted by another mother who complained about her children being too loud. The situation escalated when George allegedly threw a box of crayons, inadvertently hitting the woman's son, which lead to a physical confrontation. Quick-thinking Walmart employees intervened, and George fled the scene. Police were called, and the following day, they located and arrested George. She now faces charges of felony child cruelty and simple assault. Far Above Rubies responded: I've witnessed loud, out of control children in stores like Walmart. I've never felt the need to say something to the mother. Yes, some parents do not teach their kids how to behave in public, but I do not feel like it is my job to tell someone that their kids are too loud. I never expect my trips to Walmart to be pleasant anyway Mo Ferguson said: People do not raise their kids like back in the day... they lack social skills... they are raised by technology .. which is not parenting... it is terrible!!!!! Mcnasty offered this: I see a lot of people on here take their kids to Walmart to use as a playground and to get them out of their hair for a while. She should've kept her kids in check. Cornethia Alex said: The woman should have never thrown the crayon, she was wrong for that. However the other one probably should have just kept it moving or maybe gone to the store manager and complained. These days confronting people is extremely dangerous. Social Media From the What's Happening in Paulding Facebook Page: Mariah Rivera asked: Has anyone ever worked in a Paulding school cafeteria? And do you know what type of popcorn chicken they use. I've been craving some since I left school. Amy Sticher offered: There is a website that sells school food, I seen one time. (Didn't offer a site) Kimberly Kohl Pinson said: Not sure what brand it is, but I think they taste most like Sam's Club southern chicken bites with a hint of dill in the red bag. Sarah Elizabeth Guest responded: Don't know exactly what they buy, but pretty sure they order from Gordon Food Services. Lola Upchurch then solved the mystery: I work North Paulding High School. It's Tyson. Weird Story In Farmington, Missouri, an insurance agent's peaceful sleep turned into a nightmare as she discovered a giant spider living in her ear. Desirae Kelly initially dismissed the fluttering sensation until a visit to the clinic revealed the unexpected guest. The nurse, expecting wax, found a live jumping spider about the size of a nickel. Kelly, traumatized by the experience, now sleeps with earplugs every night. Fortunately, no harm was done, and her ear is spider-free. A lesson learned: earplugs might be the new bedtime essential. Sweet dreams. This from the Huffington Post. Events Every Tuesday in November from 6-8p - Paulding Cops for Kids Sign-Up at the Paulding County Sheriff's Office on Constitution Blvd in Dallas.
