By all accounts, "Resident Alien" from NBC Universal has been a hit. The Alan Tudyk-led dramedy, which airs on the SyFy channel, has found a loyal fanbase that appears to be growing now that the first two seasons are streaming on Netflix. This series, based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, differs slightly from its source material by incorporating witty humor to capitalize on Tudyk's unique talents as a comedian. While it's fair to say he anchors the show with a complex and often hilarious portrayal of the titular alien, the rest of the cast also brings their A-game. Combined with this talented cast, show creator and executive producer Chris Sheridan, along with the writing team and directors he's brought in, show a clear passion for the story and characters that inhabit the small Colorado town of Patience, which serves as a charming backdrop for all sorts of weird extraterrestrial shenanigans. Jace, from The Comic Source, had a chance to chat with Chris Sheridan, Sara Tomko (who plays Asta Twelvetrees), and Corey Reynolds (who plays Sheriff Mike Thompson) at the recent Wondercon Convention. Their thoughts about creating the show were insightful and we especially loved the story about what a fan had to say about their own PTSD after watching a pivotal scene.

In this episode of Over the Teacup Sunday: because this is Halloween month we're getting ready for ghosts, goblins, and aliens to get you scared and get interested in the paranormal and supernatural so let's start with two of our favorite shows: GHOSTS: This brilliant CBS comedy premiered last year in 2021, and they have just started their second season which actually premiered on Thursday the 29th of September; it runs every Thursday night. The very simple premise of this half hour program is: a young couple's dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house, only to find it's both falling apart and inhabited by many of the deceased previous residents including A Viking, a Native American, a Victorian lady, a Revolutionary War soldier, a man with no pants, a hippie, a singer from the 1920's, and a Boy Scout leader. They are trying to turn it into a bed and breakfast because they came from the big city. It was developed for television by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and it stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Sheila Carrasco, Devan Chandler Long and Richie Moriarty as well as a brilliant ensemble cast. RESIDENT ALIEN: This show is about an alien that crash-lands on Earth, kills and takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth, while also dealing with the mayor's young son, who can see his true appearance. They just wrapped season 2 so if you have the opportunity you need to go back and catch up on it. It's another brilliant piece of programming that invites you into the world of aliens and the possibility of what exists out there and combines them in such a manner that it will make you believe. It stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, and Levi Fiehler, along with a brilliant ensemble cast. It is set in the ficticious town of patience Colorado. At the age of 20 years old, Sam Mitchell is a true Pioneer fighting to end the stigmatism around mental health, and more specifically, from the perspective of Autism Awareness. I had the honor of meeting Sam in person at Podfest Expo 2022 when he attended my talk on podcasting in the mental health space to stop the stigma. Sam has such a carefree and light spirit despite all his challenges in his youth, and his story to rise above his circumstances is a true light and blessing in today's world. His mission is to spread the mission + mantra "don't let your differences define you" and this episode brings much light and clarity to help you capture the spirit of this message to rise above whatever you're going through right now. Sam now wants to change the perspective of autism, destigmatizing the negativity that often surrounds this type of brain wiring. Alice Wetterlund started her career with improv and stand-up. As a comedian, she's performed on shows like Conan. As an actress, she's best known for her roles on Space Force, New Girl, Silicon Valley, and most recently as D'Arcy Bloom on Resident Alien. The plot reads: A crash-landed alien takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth. In this interview, she talks about finding her voice on stage, improv versus stand-up, her start in commercial acting, how luck factors into any career, acting within character, her private radio show for the cast, and how established archetypes can do anything. I enjoyed my talk with Sam about Autism. Many of us are aware of what autism is, but maybe unaware there are different types of autism. In speaking with Sam he is very accomplished for his young age. He is my youngest guest on, Healing for the Soul Podcast, and is someone to reach out to. More about Sam Mitchell: Sam runs his own podcast called, Autism Rocks and Rolls. It has grown over the last year and has become very, very successful. Sam has gained several sponsors and this has boosted his mission and business exponentially. He is nearing 6K downloads. He has had some big names on his show: Armani Williams, first NASCAR driver open about having autism, and American Idol Rocker James Durbin who has autism and Tourette's. His biggest guest of all was Dr. Temple Grandin, professor in Animal Science at Colorado State University and autism activist. He recently had the actress Sara Tomko on his show, well-known for her roles in Sneaky Pete and Resident Alien. He also got to meet his idol, WWE Hall of Famer, Mick Foley, and Foley has accepted the invitation to be on Sam's podcast! Sam has made it to the top 10 in the People's Choice Podcast Awards, placed second in the state of Indiana for the JAG Entrepreneurship project, was selected as the best business at the CEO trade show in Indiana, has had tremendous guests on his show, and is in the top 200 podcasts in all of Canada...all as a recent high school graduate. Sam has a mission: To take the stigma off of autism and show people that he is not broken, therefore, embracing autism. His hard work, motivation and passion led him to creating his own successful podcast and business, all WITH autism. Sam is not ashamed and wants to be the voice of those with autism or other disabilities. His podcast is helping him change the world just a little bit at a time. Sam, at the end of the day, wants to be the voice of those who do not have one. Please contact us if you are interested in any of Sam's services, especially speaking engagements.
