Since 2011 Hogan has worked on his own Resident Alien series for Dark Horse. By all accounts, "Resident Alien" from NBC Universal has been a hit. The Alan Tudyk-led dramedy, which airs on the SyFy channel, has found a loyal fanbase that appears to be growing now that the first two seasons are streaming on Netflix. This series, based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, differs slightly from its source material by incorporating witty humor to capitalize on Tudyk's unique talents as a comedian. While it's fair to say he anchors the show with a complex and often hilarious portrayal of the titular alien, the rest of the cast also brings their A-game. Combined with this talented cast, show creator and executive producer Chris Sheridan, along with the writing team and directors he's brought in, show a clear passion for the story and characters that inhabit the small Colorado town of Patience, which serves as a charming backdrop for all sorts of weird extraterrestrial shenanigans. Jace, from The Comic Source, had a chance to chat with Chris Sheridan, Sara Tomko (who plays Asta Twelvetrees), and Corey Reynolds (who plays Sheriff Mike Thompson) at the recent Wondercon Convention. Their thoughts about creating the show were insightful and we especially loved the story about what a fan had to say about their own PTSD after watching a pivotal scene.

Jimmy was at San Diego Comic Con for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic. In this episode, he had planned on just releasing an interview he did at SDCC with his friend Chris Sheridan, showrunner for the hit SyFy series RESIDENT ALIEN. However, the cast did a virtual press junket along with Chris so we're gonna include it all here! In the junket, Chris was there along with Alan Tudyk, Alice Wetterlund was paired with Levi Fiehler, and Corey Reynolds was with Elizabeth Bowen. They were roundtables so Jimmy only got in about 1 question per session but the 2 other press folks in the room asked excellent questions! I had an audio issue in the first room so I had to leave to fix it but came back for my question. Super fun time w/ each group. Alan and Alice each had us laughing our collective butts off! Meanwhile, in San Diego, Jimmy and Chris talk about what to expect for the upcoming 2nd part of Season 2. Will Darcy find love? What's up with that alien baby? How will Asta adjust from her actions in the last episode? Such a fantastic show. If you're not watching, go ahead and do so now. You will love it! Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening!

Ep339 - Chris Sheridan, Creating SYFY's ‘Resident Alien' “I always wanted to be a writer, but I didn't know what type of writing I wanted to do,” said Chris Sheridan, who originally thought he wanted to be a journalist until he discovered screenwriting in college. “It immediately clicked.” Sheridan's writing credits include shows like Living Single. Titus, Yes Dear, Family Guy, and most recently Resident Alien. But, he wasn't always thinking about a path in comedy. “I hadn't considered comedy but one of the bartenders I worked with said he assumed I would do comedy. I had never really thought of it.” The story of Resident Alien follows a crash-landed alien who takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor. The adaptation is about a character dealing with the moral dilemma of why he was sent to earth, which was to destroy the planet. Sheridan's attachment to the IP came after he started to make a shift towards drama. “Probably 8-9 years ago, I wanted to do cable drama, so I wrote a drama spec pilot that I went out with. I didn't sell it, but I opened up that world and had to prove myself as a drama writer.” In this interview, Sheridan talks about character-based comedy, how to get un-pigeonholed as a writer, what it means for actors to police language, being respectful to IP, and advice for getting noticed today.
