In this episode, we sit down with veteran writer/editor Tom Peyer for a career-spanning conversation that traces his remarkable journey from underground cartoonist to one of today's most innovative publishers. Beginning with his early years in underground papers and the Syracuse New Times, we delve into his pivotal editorial years at DC and Vertigo during the transformative 90s era. Tom shares insights from his beloved tenure on Legion of Super-Heroes, his creative vision for reviving Hourman, and his collaborative process with writers like Mark Waid. We spend a lot of time on AHOY Comics, the company that Tom co-founded and now leads as EIC, discussing its original vision and evolution into a unique voice in today's market. Through titles like The Wrong Earth, Tom has masterfully deconstructed superhero tropes, and he shares  his perspective on the current comics industry landscape.  You can follow Tom everywhere from Instagram @tombobpeyer to Bluesky‪ @tompeyer.bsky.social‬. JSA #57 / Hawkman #24 (2004)It's a double dose of #JSApril this week as we double up the conversation on the next two installments of the “Black Reign” story arc!In JSA, the team makes its way to Kahndaq, having to use air travel as opposed to magic travel because Nabu's being REAL cranky these days. Along the way, Power Girl calls Hawkman an ass, Black Adam bifurcates thru the JSA transport and all of Northwind's friends, with their bird talons and supple chests, look to make mincemeat of the heroes.Over in HAWKMAN, Doctor Fate seemingly turns heel as Nabu mucks up the JSA on the offensive. Hawkman clangs his own son on the head with his mace, Brainwave probes Shazam's teenage thoughts and Hourman is gutted….literally! All this plus Jen and Shawn offer a correction regarding Billy Batson's age and discuss Jason Todd's failed pro wrestling career.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:09:55 ***Promos: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/) / THE MONITOR TAPES (http://themonitortapes.com)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. The JSA is wild in the streets as Power Girl endures a fortune telling, Wildcat plays pocket pool, Doctor Mid-Nite threatens to drown a man with his own blood and Hourman Jr. Jr. sweats it out in the hotel. This all culminates at the Hawkman party where Carter, fresh from mutilating Matter Master, fills the team in on the Kahndaq situation and it gets real REAL fast. All this plus Jen and Shawn chat about yet another shopping excursion resulting in Nightwing action figure repaints and more BatCat wins!*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:15:13 ***Promo: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. JSA #56 (2004)Welcome to #JSApril! Worst Collection Ever is proud to participate in this celebration of JSA content by delivering our wicked takes on Geoff Johns's “Black Reign” saga! This issue plays out more like the first act of a promsing action flick, with Black Adam recruiting a crew of disenchanted, mayhem-seeking folks to help him liberate his home country of Kahndaq. We got the assassin Nemesis, a tatted-up Eclipso, a freshly-mutated Northwind, a conflicted Atom Smasher and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park aka Brainwave aka Robert Englund from the V mini-series. The scene gets bloody and emotional and there are cooling brains all over the place. We also spend a bit of time parsing out Northwind's creation so, if you new to the podcast, put a fun movie on for the kids and then hide under a blanket while you listen to this. All this plus Jen and Shawn buy a bunch of cheap trades, new DC Absolute offerings and the Hawk Tuah Girl runs afoul of the Dark Knight![NOTE — we (or specifically Shawn) refers to Northwind a bunch as “Hawkwind.” Hawkwind was a band that Lemmy was in before Motörhead - we are aware of this. We will most likely screw this up again, so there you go]*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:22:14 ***Promo: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows.

It's double the JSA action this episode as David and Peter cover BOTH the stories from the Spectre issue 7!   We kick off with some exciting Spectre action in "The Ghost that Haunted Money" before diving into some sensational solo Hourman action in "The Hour Hourman Died".   As usual, your hosts perform a dramatic reading of the comic as well as giving their own thoughts and analysis on the stories.   It doesn't get much better than this!   #dccomics #dcmultiverse #earth2 #spectre #thespectre #hourman #gardnerfox #jerygrandenetti #murphyanderson #dickdillin #jsa #justicesociety #comicpodcast

Note: this interview took place before the sudden passing of Rag's Black Condor collaborator, Brian Augustyn.Rags Morales did not create Ragman. That we can tell you. He did, however, co-create the 90s version of Black Condor (aka the best version). He did, however, get his start on Forgotten Realms and followed that and Condor with a stint at Valiant. He did, however, then work on JSA titles like Hourman and Hawkman (with Geoff Johns), before hitting his stride with the seminal crossover whodonit Identity Crisis. So that's a lot. I think we can forgive him for not creating Ragman now. You can follow Rags on Facebook at facebook.com/ragsmorales or at ragsagainstthemachine.net. ____________________________________You can find a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.Check out and subscribe to YEET Presents on Patreon: patreon.com/yeetmagazine.Email us at dollarbinbandits@gmail.com. This week, Tony is joined by writer, editor and co-founder of Ahoy Comics Mr. Tom Peyer. This slope-shouldered industry veteran was a long-running writer on DC's Legion of Super-Heroes, a founding editor at their Vertigo imprint, and the proud writer of their worst-selling, award-losing series Hourman. He has since written enough major characters to fill one of those hyper-populated super-hero posters where you don't know who to look at first. Today he happily writes and edits AHOY Comics from his Ditkoesque office in Downtown Syracuse, NY. https://twitter.com/tompeyer https://twitter.com/tompeyer Comics in Motion is now a Humble Bundle Partner.
