"The Boys" is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon Prime Video. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals, referred to as "Supes," who often abuse their powers for personal gain and work for a powerful company, Vought International, that ensures the general public views them as heroes. The story focuses on Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), a young electronics clerk, and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), a former SAS and CIA operative, who work together with the rest of the Boys against "The Seven," Vought's premier superhero team, led by the power-hungry Homelander (Antony Starr). The series also stars Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Elisabeth Shue, Colby Minifie, Aya Cash, Claudia Doumit, Jensen Ackles, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Daveed Diggs. The fifth and final season premiered on April 8th and drew a mixed response from fans and critics, though the show has been an undisputed success, with a prequel series, "Vought Rising," set to premiere in 2027. Overall, the show was praised for its performances, particularly Antony Starr, visuals, satirical themes, and action sequences. The series has won four awards from 12 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2021, and has won seven Critics' Choice Super Awards and six Astra TV Awards. Showrunner, Executive Producer, and Writer Eric Kripke was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the hit series, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the show, which is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and is up for your consideration for this year's Emmy Awards in all eligible categories. Thank you, and enjoy! Mid-season bonus! We sat down with Jerry Wanek, production designer, later producer and director on Supernatural, and the guy behind basically every set you've ever paused the screen to stare at. We get into how a $35-a-day PA fetching Ronald McDonald's coffee ended up building the Men of Letters bunker, the real story behind that telescope, the Eric Kripke love-fest, a finally-answered fan debate about the dungeon devil's trap floor, the legend of "mud flap girls," the disco motel reveal that had the boys dancing on the beds, hidden sigils we never noticed, and one extremely chaotic Friday night involving Jared and a vintage Buick.Jerry was generous, funny, and an absolute joy. Let us know which detail blew your mind most, and we'll be back soon with the second half of Season 9. Cheers!

Tonight on TV Party Tonight, we're reviewing Season 5 of The Boys, the fifth and final chapter of Eric Kripke's satirical superhero saga based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, the season brings back Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, and the rest of the core cast, with Daveed Diggs joining the ensemble. As Homelander tightens his grip on America and seeks the original Compound V formula that could make him effectively immortal, Billy Butcher and The Boys unite for one final mission, armed with a virus capable of wiping out every Supe on Earth. Premiering on Prime Video in April 2026 and concluding in May, the season earned generally favorable reviews for its action, performances, social commentary, humor, and emotional payoff, though some critics cited pacing issues and a lack of focus. Tonight, we'll see if the finale sticks the landing.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Episode Summary The Boys is officially over, and Frank and Thomas dig into a series finale that split the internet right down the middle. They break down why Homelander's fall hits harder than the backlash suggests, where Kimiko's powers felt rushed, and how Butcher's heel turn landed for comic readers versus everyone else, before scoring both the finale and the full 2019 to now run. From there, they jump to the big screen for The Mandalorian and Grogu, a movie they both enjoyed while admitting the plot is paper thin and the whole thing feels like stitched-together episodes. The centerpiece is a long-awaited sit down with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who returns as Uncle Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender season two on Netflix and plays Captain Carson Teva in the Star Wars universe. He opens up about adapting a beloved animated series, why he avoids the deep lore cuts when building a character, the reckoning Iroh faces in the live-action version, and the everyman appeal of Carson Teva. He also reflects on Kim's Convenience, the season six that never happened, and why he thinks tearing down something new before watching it is a waste of energy. Timestamps and Topics 00:00:00 Intro and Weekly Catch-Up 00:03:52 The Boys Series Finale Review 00:25:27 The Mandalorian and Grogu Review 00:47:01 Interview With Paul Sun-Hyung Lee 01:20:55 Rapid Fire Questions 01:24:06 Network Updates and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The Boys finale earned an 8 out of 10 from both hosts, with the full series landing at a 9, praised for ending on a hopeful note that the good guys can actually win if they stick together. Homelander losing his powers reveals who he always was underneath the facade, a takedown the hosts rank among the best villain endings on TV, even if the way he lost them through Kimiko felt like a quick fix. The Mandalorian and Grogu works as crowd-pleasing, kid-friendly Star Wars but lacks a real character arc, scoring around a 6 to 7 with both hosts feeling it plays like several episodes cut together. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee approaches adaptation by serving the scripts rather than chasing deep lore, and the live action Avatar gives Iroh a real reckoning for his role in the siege of Ba Sing Se that the cartoon glossed over. Carson Teva works because audiences connect with the grounded everyman in a universe full of Jedi, a role compared to Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, and even R2-D2. Kim's Convenience remains a point of deep pride for Lee, who still wishes fans had gotten the Appa and Jung reconciliation from the original play, but stands by going out on top. Quotes "When those were stripped away, he no longer could act like the same person." (Thomas, on Homelander) "The good guys can just straight up win." (Frank, on the finale's message) "We're so specifically Korean that it becomes universal." (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, on Kim's Convenience) "If you don't watch it, you can't talk smack about it." (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, on hating something unseen) "Go out on top if you're going to go out." Unveiled at CCXP Brazil on Dec 7, 2025, this first look thrusts us into Homelander's dystopian America—a world warped by his erratic, egomaniacal rule, where Supes enforce martial law and The Boys face their darkest hour.Hughie, Mother's Milk, and Frenchie rot in a brutal "Freedom Camp," while Starlight (Annie) rallies a desperate resistance against an unstoppable Supe army. Kimiko vanishes into the chaos, leaving fans on edge. Enter Billy Butcher, resurfacing with a game-changing virus poised to eradicate all Supes, igniting a chain reaction that promises to shatter the world forever. "It's the climax, people. Big stuff's gonna happen," teases the trailer's tagline, amplified by Karl Urban's gravelly narration and Antony Starr's chilling Homelander smirk. The teaser spotlights epic returns: Jensen Ackles' cryogenic Soldier Boy thaws for chaos, joined by Supernatural reunion magic with Jared Padalecki's mysterious new role (hint: shadowy alliance with Homelander) and whispers of Misha Collins. Eric Kripke's panel reveal has sparked frenzy, with the two-episode premiere kicking off weekly drops through the May 20 finale—setting up an all-out bloodbath blending satire, betrayal, and Supe genocide stakes.Analytic Dreamz breaks down the trailer's shocking visuals, plot twists, and why this endgame elevates The Boys beyond Marvel/DC tropes into must-watch TV anarchy. Berly, LA, and In Defense of Fandom's Sadie Witkowski kick off their massive 10-episode collaboration celebrating the 20th anniversary of Supernatural by diving into the show's iconic musical legacy. And yes, they interviewed over 20 people for this series because apparently they're all insane. The episode opens with a power move: Sadie asking Jared and Jensen about Supernatural's music at a convention panel (using Berly's name callout because Berly is a good friend who understands true J2 fandom priorities). From there, the hosts explore why music became so fundamental to the show's DNA—including Eric Kripke almost quitting over the network wanting to ditch classic rock for "current, exciting, young music."They discuss fan-favorite needle drops, with Death's entrance to "O Death" taking the crown as most mentioned, followed by the "Renegade" escape in "Night Shifter" and "Rooster" in "Folsom Prison Blues." There's also a moment of silence for all the needle drops lost to streaming music licensing (RIP "Don't Fear the Reaper" in the Faith episode). The hosts break down the convention music experience—Saturday Night Specials, Louden Swain as the house band, Jason Manns, and the revelation that there's literally music everywhere at these things. LA admits she had no idea conventions even had concerts before attending her first one.Important PSA: This series features interviews with composers Chris Lennertz and Jay Gruska, musicians inspired by the show, and approximately everyone talented in the Supernatural universe (who was willing to meet with us). Subscribe to both podcasts to hear all the interviews, because yes, you have to follow both feeds. Greg Alba, Coy Jandreau & John Humphrey break down Gen V Season 2, Episode 4—the latest twisty entry in The Boys spinoff set at Godolkin University. Gen V (created by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg & Eric Kripke) explores the morally murky lives of young supes training under extreme pressure at the university. In this episode, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair — known for her work in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) returns to campus determined to unravel the secrets behind “Project Odessa,” following Starlight's request. Meanwhile, Jordan Li (London Thor / Derek Luh) begins to reveal clues about who attacked Cate Dunlap, putting both himself and Cate under dangerous scrutiny. Tension builds as the students confront the darker side of what it means to be a supe under the new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), whose agenda appears to push the boundaries of what Godolkin actually stands for. With emotional confrontations, moral gray zones, and visual moments that highlight both power and vulnerability, Episode 4 sets up more than just action—it teases which students will survive the politics of power and which will be sacrificed. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles star as Sam and Dean, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan recurring as their father, John, and Nicki Aycox as the demonic Meg Masters. This is the only season to air on The WB, with all subsequent seasons airing on The CW, a joint venture of The WB and UPN.The first sixteen episodes of the season aired on Tuesdays at 9:00 pm ET in the United States, after which the series was rescheduled to Thursdays. Overall, the season averaged about 3.81 million American viewers. The season gained many award nominations, among them two Primetime Emmy Awards for work done on the pilot episode. While some critics did not like the mostly anthology-like format, others praised the show for the emotional moments and noted the brotherly chemistry between the lead actors. The season was internationally syndicated, airing in the United Kingdom on ITV, in Canada on Citytv, and in Australia on Network Ten. The first season was released on DVD as a six-disc box set on September 5, 2006, by Warner Home Video in Region 1. Although the season was split into two separate releases in Region 2, the complete set was released on October 2, 2006, and in Region 4 on October 2, 2007. The episodes are also available through digital retailers such as Apple's iTunes Store, Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace (now Microsoft Store), and Amazon.com's on-demand TV service. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:15 UTC on Saturday, 13 September 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Supernatural season 1 on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kajal.

Editors - Nona Khodai ACE and Tim Roche The Fantastic Four: First Steps sees editors Nona Khodai and Tim Roche reunite for the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the second reboot of the Fantastic Four film series.  The film also marks the first time the two have worked together since Marvel's live action series debut, WandaVision.  Although each had worked with him separately before, WandaVision was the first time both Nona and Tim worked with director Matt Shakman on a Marvel project. The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in 1964, as the world celebrates the fourth anniversary of astronauts Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm becoming the superhero team known as the Fantastic Four (Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing).  But the celebration doesn't last for long as the four face their most daunting challenge yet as they defend Earth from Galactus and Silver Surfer. NONA KHODAI ACE A Southern California native and graduate of USC's Cinematic Arts school, Nona started her career as an assistant on such films as the Bad Robot production, Super 8.  Her first foray as an editor on a "superhero" project came courtesy of showrunner Eric Kripke who brought her aboard the The Boys, where she would work with director Matt Shakman for the first time.  Nona was twice nominted for an Emmy award for her work on Marvel's WandaVision, and nominated for another Emmy for Marvel's Ms. Marvel. “The most subversive thing this show could do is make you cry… If you really boil down television, really cook it in the pan, it's the character business. I'm in the character business. Movies are in the plot and spectacle business, for television, there's a thing about laying in bed and watching someone in your bedroom or living room that you really care about, you're inviting these people into your house. The more you care about them, the more your show will succeed. There's no simple formula, but you could boil down every single TV show to if the characters work, that show is likely going to work. If the characters don't work, no matter what that show is, no matter how much money you throw at it, that show is not going to work,” says Eric Kripke, creator and showrunner for The Boys on Prime Video.  In this special episode hosted by screenwriting career coach Lee Jessup live from the Writers Guild Foundation in Los Angeles, Kripke talks about the functions of a showrunner, the excellent training he got doing 15 seasons of the show Supernatural, and what it's like when the real world mirrors the darker aspects of The Boys.  Kripke also shares his sage advice for writing dialogue.  “I was interviewing people about their life experiences – it was a romantic comedy so I was asking people about their love lives. I wanted to transcribe it, so I had about 20 hours of material that I'm just transcribing and that's how I learned to write dialogue, just from doing that because you learn how people really speak. No one speaks in straight, declarative sentences. It's this weaving thing where they'll start and they'll back away and throw in a new idea. When you start to pay attention to what real language looks like on a page, it's very different than what you think it looks like. So, to know what it looked like and how to recreate it, was huge. I recommend everyone try that,” says Kripke.  To hear more, listen to the podcast.  You can also watch this episode here.

Never meet your heroes. At least, not these ones – the dysfunctional megalomaniacs that murder innocents and seed division in Prime Video's The Boys, a show as satirically sharp as it is gore-splattered and gross. Created by our guest today, Eric Kripke, the comic book adaptation debuted in 2019 and has since become one of the most captivatingly timely stories in our pop culture landscape, commenting not just on our current era of superhero saturation but on American society at large. Across four seasons, it's become a funhouse reflection of the way DC and Marvel movies are content machines with often jingoistic messages at their core. It's mirrored the nation's split into two furiously opposed political camps: Homelanders versus Starlighters in the case of the show; MAGA versus liberals in real-life. And along the way, it's done things never seen on TV before. Octopus beastiality. Super-powered sheep. A guy called "Herogasm" whose name kinda says it all. The list goes on.All of which begs the question: with The Boys' final season approaching and America currently reeling from another dramatic election, how will the tale of Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell and co end? It's a question Eric, previously best known for creating the long-running series Supernatural, has been wrestling with himself. In the wide-ranging conversation you're about to hear, he's honest about the difficulty of “landing the plane” when it comes to beloved TV dramas. And as fans of The Boys know all too well, planes don't often land in this show, so much as they have a habit of exploding in the sky in a fury of laser vision. We talk about the psychology of superheroes – why they continue to appeal, what fantasy they offer audiences in a post-9/11 world. We talk about the story choices in season four, and how they came to be, such as Homelander's rise to near-presidential power. And you'll hear whether season five of this show that's dovetailed through the years with real-life events in American politics, will respond to the fact that Donald Trump has just entered the Oval Office again.
