An episode that means an awful lot to your host - and let's be honest, he probably wouldn't be here without it as it features quite strongly in his Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf show. And so it seemed appropriate to break it out in the run up to the 100th edition. Sarah Jane! K-9! Giles from Buffy! There's so much going on here that Paul Griggs, interviewer and podcaster extraordinaire, is spoilt for choice. And it's hard to believe it was on nearly 20 years ago. My guest, Lynne Smith and I went to high school together and had gone to the same dance studio in our early years. We reconnected at our 40th School Reunion and became friends again via Facebook. It was only recently that I discovered, Lynne had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 33. When I saw a Facebook post of her swimming with sharks (in a controlled environment of course), travelling and enjoying life I was amazed and knew I wanted her to share her story with my listeners.During the episode Lynne and I discussed:* Lynne's diagnosis with MS at age 33* Her resilience and reinvention* The power of a positive mindsent* How MS hasn't held her back because of her determintaion* Her work as an MS ambassador working with politicians to spread the word of MS Watch on YoutubeMeet LynneBorn in Sydney March 1958 to a Self-employed builder and a homemaker.I matriculated in 1975 but was discouraged from pursuing advanced education and attended Miss Hales Business College instead.I knew I was never going to be someone's secretary but in fact it led to my first overseas adventure, when I applied for and attained a position of Cruise Hostess on the MV Turkenia, a Russian cruise ship that sailed a Ship/Jet route from Freemantle to Singapore. I was 18.A couple of years later I wanted to earn some money (to travel to England) so started working as a waitress in Sydney. I earned the money and went to England but in the meantime, I had met a chef…Forward to 1978 and we opened our first restaurant (Manly Sydney). I combined my business and hospitality skills and learnt that all knowledge is useful. Also that I had my father's self employment genes). We went on to open three restaurants over several years and life proceeded until I became unwell and was diagnosed with MS in 1991. I was 33 yrs old.Of course that changed everything, personally and professionally. It was very difficult to adjust from busy busy busy to nothing and accept that I needed help with things that I had taken for granted. It took some years and professional psychological help to learn how to live in my new lifeI had to deal with my diagnosis and prognosis whilst we continued our profession. Although I had staff it became apparent that our future would be different and we sold up and changed professions.Whilst I adjusted to my new life that slowed me down and I learnt to accept the changes, my husband learnt how to become an internet service provider. By then we lived on the central coast and the industry was just beginning to expand. We eventually went on to own 5 mobile phone shops.By 2010 my health was stabilising. I was not involved in the business but needed something to challenge me. As my dogs had passed away (We do not have children) I decided to start a dog minding business that involved minding dogs in our home. I knew I had the business and hospitality skills to adapt to this growing industry. When I sold the business in 2022 I had 12 minders around the coast so those skills from Miss Hales in 1976 helped all my professional life!We were ready to retire and we now travel as much as we can and enjoy our home, friends and extended family.Fortunately I have been stable for some time and that means I can function reasonably well (now diagnosed 34 years). I can walk unaided for short distances and run my home with help from a cleaner. I enjoy exercise with my MS friends and attend ScubGym classes weekly that helps to keep up my stamina, strength and flexibility. We have a small teardrop van and we like to travel around Australia (state by state). We also enjoy cruising when possible.I've always been a positive person and was taught to make the most of a situation. I've done that to the best of my ability.Lynne, is truly an inspirational woman and I very much enjoyed chatting with her. Thanks for reading Women Living Well After 50 with Sue Loncaric! Next up on our NewWho re-watch are arguably the two best episodes of series two. First is “School Reunion” where current companion Rose gets a ‘chip' on her shoulder when she and the Doctor bump into past companion Sarah Jane. Awkward... Then we travel to the 51st century where a bickering Rose and Mickey nearly get harvested for spare parts whilst the Doctor transports back to the 18th century to get his groove back with a French courtesan. This podcast episode is definitely brought to you by couples therapy.
Max and Tina discuss Charmed season six, episode 17: Hyde School Reunion
In this heartwarming episode of Jump Start Your Joy, I'm taking you along with me on a journey back to Yale Divinity School for my 25th reunion—a place where old friendships, profound growth, and life's deeper questions all come together. Reuniting with friends, revisiting cherished memories, and even leading a Labyrinth walk, I found myself reflecting on what it truly means to reconnect with both people and places that have shaped who we are. I'll share the magic of the labyrinth as both a spiritual tool and a metaphor for life's journey—how its twists and turns mirror our own paths and how it can guide us through the beautiful complexities of growth, purpose, and joy. In this episode, I'm sharing: The themes of reunions, self-discovery, and finding one's purpose through heartfelt conversations and experiences from recent events. My recent reunion with her friends from Yale Divinity School and UC Santa Barbara, and the special moments of revisiting cherished places. My deep connection with labyrinth walks and how they have been a source of inspiration and guidance in her life. The journey of her podcast, Jump Start Your Joy, from its inception in 2015 to its current focus on retreats and labyrinth facilitation. The importance of showing up, the transformative power of retreats, and how self-confidence can lead to personal and professional growth. W/C 20th November 2023I have been dipping into the Doctor Who content that is all over the BBC iPlayer at the moment, including some of the documentary content and odd episodes and curiosities. Firstly there is a ton of stuff and for even the most casual of Who-vians it's a mighty easy way to idle away a few hours. What I still come back to is how good some of those re-boot episodes actually were. I watched The Girl in the Fireplace again and it is an utterly beguiling and thought-provoking piece of drama, way beyond the confines of it's supposed (and pigeon-holed) premise. And don't get me started on Blink, or School Reunion, or The Family of Blood, or the Big Bang or the one where he is separated from Rose. And of course then there's the music....Stay safe.Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis and the News

OMG is that Sarah Jane Smith?! OMG is that K9?! OMG is that David Tenant teaching physics?! And wow Anthony Head is deliciously evil in this. But put these components together and what do you get? A pretty average episode. The larder in the Something Who bunker is a bit bare and it all looks bleak until the stars start falling and there may be a chance to boost our Apple Podcasts rating. This time we're looking at how journalist and companion Sarah Jane Smith was introduced in both the original and new series. First we'll look at 3rd Doctor story The Time Warrior from Season 11, and after that we'll examine 10th Doctor outing School Reunion from Series 2. This episode consists of the first half of that conversation, featuring The Time Warrior. Next time we'll move onto School Reunion. Your Hosts: Dan Wells, Zoraida Cordova, Kaela Rivera, and Howard Tayler Sometimes we have to look at our ensemble of characters and ask ourselves what kind of story we're trying to tell? If the story works with a single protagonist and one POV, maybe this isn't an ensemble story after all. If, however, the plot requires a team effort from the heroes, then we need to make sure the necessary team members make it onto the page. Liner Notes: The "I'm the tin dog" moment is from Doctor Who, S2 E3, "School Reunion." Mickey is speaking. Howard couldn't remember Mickey's name because sometimes Howard is the tin dog. Credits: This episode was recorded by Marshall Carr, Jr., and mastered by Alex Jackson.
