42 - Overcoming Trauma Together with Scott McPherson Scott McPherson shares his experience as a firefighter EMT and Army infantry officer and discusses the importance of addressing the soul wounds of first responders. He explains that soul wounds are perceived or actual actions that transgress deeply held moral values, and they can result from critical incidents with unfavorable outcomes, betrayal, or failure to meet performance standards. Scott emphasizes the need for open and honest conversations about these experiences and the importance of community support in the healing process. He also discusses the Reboot Recovery program, which combines the science of trauma recovery with scripturally based conversations to help first responders and their spouses find healing. Key Takeaways Soul wounds are perceived or actual actions that transgress deeply held moral values and can result in significant emotional and psychological impact on first responders. Open and honest conversations about these experiences are crucial for healing and recovery. Community support and connection play a vital role in the healing process for first responders and their spouses. The Reboot Recovery program combines the science of trauma recovery with scripturally based conversations to provide a comprehensive approach to healing for first responders and their spouses. ABOUT REBOOT RECOVERY REBOOT is a national movement of peer-led, faith-based trauma recovery courses with over 400 locations across the US and 11 countries and over 23,000 graduates. REBOOT courses combine the science of trauma recovery with Scripturally based conversations to address the faith questions that trauma exposure often catalyzes. Our First Responder REBOOT curriculum (https://rebootrecovery.com/responders/), came from a program that was developed for US combat veterans and their spouses to help address both the post-traumatic stress injuries and the 'soul wounds' associated with their service experiences. Recognizing that critical incident stress, compassion fatigue and moral injury events also impact first responders and their spouses, we translated the course into their culture and language in 2018. Since then, we have found the course meets the needs of responders (law enforcement, fire service, EMS, emergency communicators and corrections personnel) and their spouses in ways many other traditional post-traumatic stress approaches do not. This is our answer to the epidemic of first responder mental health challenges. Spouses are invited to participate to help rebuild lines of communication and understanding that so often break down, as well as to process their own secondary trauma. The course meets over 12 weeks, with each week taking on a topic common to the first responder experience, such as forgiveness of self and others, processing grief and loss, identity, depression and suicide prevention and managing big emotions like anger. Scott McPherson is a firefighter/EMT and recently started leading his 9th course rotation along with a co-leader who is a former LEO. He has also led the military version of the course for over a decade. He says, "Each time we see healing and lives changed for participants - which is why we are so passionate about finding ways for more first responders to experience the course." "We are actively seeking peer leaders who want to bring hope and healing to the responders of their communities. We provide robust leader training, coaching along the way, and all needed online and printed course materials." It's hard to keep up with all the fireworks going off right now. Nevertheless, James Howard Kunstler does a great job of documenting how the party of chaos has blown its cover. There's no propaganda like war propaganda. Be careful what you believe or share. Glenn Greenwald warns that the narrative regarding Ukraine is becoming more militaristic, authoritarian and reckless. Speaking of authoritarianism, that new fence going up around the U.S. Capitol sure speaks volumes about how the public is viewed by the ruling class. James Bovard says it still won't protect them from the contempt of the citizenry. At the risk of sounding conspiratorial, isn't it convenient how the public's attention has somehow shifted away from the collapsing Covid narrative to Putin and Ukraine? Vasko Kohlmayer says that's not an accident. We hear the word "privilege" a lot these days. However, its meaning seems to escape the folks who use it the most. Sheldon Richman has some timely clarification about what privilege is and what it isn't. The battle between freedom and tyranny seems very real right now. Scott McPherson reminds us that nukes, war planes and tanks are not enough to prevent people from standing for freedom. It's risky to advance a point of view that isn't in lockstep with the mainstream narrative right now. But Pat Buchanan has a point worth considering here: Did we provoke Putin's war in Ukraine? Would the ruling class be willing to start a new world war just to cover up their Covid crimes against humanity? Before you answer, please consider Lew Rockwell's plea to keep us out of war. www.thebryanhydeshow.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loving-liberty/support
One of the toughest things we ever learn to do is to trust in our own ability to comprehend and judge the facts. Paul Rosenberg has a great essay on names and things, understanding and remembering. This is a touchy subject for some but when government assumes tyrannical powers, an armed citizenry is the final check on illegitimate power. Scott McPherson lays out why the militia is more important than ever. One of the reasons that police in Canada, Australia and New Zealand have been so brutal to the people of those nations is that the people have been effectively disarmed by law. Karina Schmitt notes that Democrats who are seeking to turn America into the new Venezuela cannot do so with an armed citizenry. Julie Kelly is a national treasure when it comes to shining light on media's exploitation of the Jan 6 investigation. She draws some chilling parallels between our government and the Trudeau-style tyranny going on in Canada. You can see the light beginning to come on for a lot of people. And they're not happy about what they're realizing. As Dr. Robert Malone explains, the CDC has deliberately withheld data from the public regarding Covid, over fears that it might be "misinterpreted." Whatever that means. If you read just one article this week, it should be this one. Antony Davies shares some uncomfortable truths about our political parties and the need for a 3rd party alternative that isn't part of the corrupted machinery. If you were a bit fuzzy on why property rights are foundational to a free society, there's an object lesson in what's happening in Canada right now. Charles C.W. Cooke says that Canada's cash grab reminds us why ownership matters. The Canadian news media has actively worked to deceive the public through distorted and false narratives regarding the freedom convoy. American MSM will likely do the same. Twitter has already pulled the plug on this video from a U.S. freedom convoy organizer. I wonder why. Scott is a seasoned drummer. He played on the Figure 8 tour with Elliott and also featured on the album version of the track Pretty (Ugly Before), which is on From a Basement on the Hill. In addition to Elliott, he's also worked with musicians including M Ward, Sense Field, Beck and Bright Eyes. Sean Croghan is a musician and artist from Portland. He became good friends with Elliott during the '90s, when their respective bands (Heatmiser and Crackerbash) were breaking up. Scott witnessed Elliott's first hand, particularly around the time the solo album was recorded, so he's got lots of great insight on how it was developed and what it changes as a result. In addition to these two interviews, we also have Kathy Parkin from Minnesota, who provides us with this week's listener submission. The second episode of the ARK Podcast is here! This contains a reading and my additional notes of a Summer 2018 Reddit post made by a delegate. This episode also contains audio from a presentation given by ARK.io Founder and board member Dr. Scott McPherson at the World Blockchain Summit in 2018. The article's inclusion is in no way an endorsement of a specific delegate, and you should always do your own research and consider all delegates when deciding who to vote for using your wallet (this is not a cliche disclaimer, we truly stand by this.) As a reminder, ARK.io does not run the ARK network, and you can browse delegate proposals on ArkDelegates.io. The post outlines some points pertaining to ARK token economics. A reoccuring theme on the podcast is to “treat it like a business.” This comes up quite a bit on this episode as Scott shares the common pitfalls that stop a property manager from scaling their business. He explains there are certain character traits that allow someone the ability to scale their operations.
Scott McPherson's seemingly effortless musicality has made him the drummer of choice for many of his generation's greatest songwriters. He tells Joe about addiction and sobriety; working with artists ranging from Sense Field to Elliott Smith; creating his own company, Tackle Instrument; and the danger of getting what you wish for.

There is an old saying: “Expect the best, prepare for the worst.” It’s not something we want to think about, and it can be a difficult topic to discuss. Crises don’t happen very often, but when they do occur, they tend to have significant consequences. Without a well-thought out, strategic plan, your business is at risk of being completely caught off guard should a disaster happen. "Know that a crisis will happen at some point. It's just a question of how big it is or how small it is. The trick is being prepared." - Scott McPherson On this extended episode of MakingChips, we talk Public Relations with Scott McPherson, Principal at McPherson Public Affairs Group. Scott also shares some important tips on crisis preparation, including steps you should take to properly manage a crisis in your manufacturing shop. Terry here...I'm wrapping the She & Him/M. Ward discussion (for now) with an overview of the She & Him show in Nashville from 2013 and two of the M. Ward shows from earlier this year. I can honestly say that the whole story isn't here but the largely tangential parts left out should come in handy for inspiring other episodes of the podcast. I talk about one of their hard-to-find videos as well as two important members of the She & Him and M. Ward touring bands, Scott McPherson and Mike Coykendall as well as some other odds-and-ends that conclude this love letter of sorts to two of my favorite musical experiences that are out there today. I strongly recommend checking out the YouTube playlist for this episode. Ben Crane was the winner of the FedEx St. Jude Classic last week on the PGA Tour. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from Pinehurst, N.C. to talk to the Holly and Rich about the U.S. Open. Weather is the up first and then the renovations that were done to the course. Now the course resembles the original design by Donald Ross. From what Bob has heard, the players like the course and know that it is tough. The rough might resemble a barren wasteland and the fairways might be a little brown. Holly talks to Bob about Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson's chances and how their games suit this course. The two also talk about some of the European players and how their game fits this course? Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, etc. Bob also talks about the fact that we just might see a person at the top of the leader board that we normally don't see. Players will miss a lot of the greens, more than normal, and they will need to get up and down a lot more than typical in a tournament. Jeff Rude, Senior Writer for Golfweek, calls in from Pinehurst and talks to Holly about the players and how much they are thinking or about their game with the redesign and the fact that this is the second longest U.S. Open golf course. Jeff also mentions that there won't be many birdie opportunities at Pinehurst this week and that it will take a creative shot maker as well as a great short game player to win. There's a lot of chance involved on this course, more than most and that is why it is hard to pick a winner. Jeff brings up the fact that Payne Stewart and Michael Campbell hit a total of 41 fairways in four days that they played and went on to win the U.S. Open. Jeff feels Sergio Garcia has a good chance to win. Mike Kern, Philadelphia Daily News, joins the show and talks to Holly and Rich about Rory McIlroy and his approach to golf lately without his former fiancee. Mike also talks about the conditions of the course and the weather. Pinehurst is all about the greens and playing them, being able to get up and down. His picks are Furyk, Sergio and Brendon Todd. Scott McPherson, President of Antigua, calls into the show and talks to Holly and Rich about gifts for Father's Day and apparel. Scott, in the business for 35 years, talks with Holly about how apparel has changed over the years. Synthetics have dominated for the past decade or so, but Antigua is introducing some cotton blends this year. LPGA Stacy Lewis who recently won the Shoprite LPGA Classic is part of Team Antigua.
