Electronic medical records (EMRs) have moved from a back-office upgrade to a frontline determinant of care quality, clinician burnout, and hospital economics. With U.S. hospitals often spending tens to hundreds of millions—sometimes exceeding $100 million—on EMR implementations, the stakes have never been higher for getting both the technology and the human adoption right. As healthcare continues shifting toward interoperability, outpatient care, and data-driven decision-making, the conversation around EMRs is no longer technical—it's strategic. So what does it really take to build a business in the EMR space—and more importantly, how do you know when it's time to walk away from it?Welcome to I Don't Care, hosted by Dr. Kevin Stevenson. In the latest episode, Dr. Stevenson sits down with Mark Embry, partner and co-founder of MedSys Group, to unpack decades of experience in healthcare technology consulting, the evolution of EMR implementation, and the personal side of exiting a company after 30 years.Top insights from the talk…How EMR consulting evolved from niche staffing to mission-critical healthcare transformation work: What started as staffing has become strategic work shaping how health systems operate. Why user adoption—not just technology—is the biggest determinant of EMR success: Without workflow change and clinician buy-in, even the best systems fall short. What founders should consider when transitioning out of a business they've built from scratch: A strong exit balances financial outcomes with team, culture, and timing.Mark Embry is the co-founder and EVP of Client Relationships at MedSys Group, where he has spent nearly three decades leading EMR advisory, implementation, and healthcare IT consulting services for providers across the U.S. He played a key role in building the company from its origins as Genesys Group into a nationally recognized firm supporting major initiatives, including federal EHR modernization projects with the DOD and VA. With over 20 years in IT consulting, Embry specializes in strategic partnerships, healthcare technology transformation, and scaling consulting organizations to deliver high-impact client outcomes.

Additionally, Stephen is the past chair of the ABA's Law Practice Division and the past chair of the Data Breach, Privacy, and Cyber Insurance Section of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). This episode is the fourth installment in a ten-part series on learning to love with all our heart, part of a broader goal this year to study the greatest commandments – to love the Lord (and our neighbor) with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. In every account of the gospels, the command to love always begins with the heart… and today I'd like to introduce an audience I love to a friend I love… a friend that is an expert on heart-to-heart communication.I'd like you to meet Kenny Embry. He runs the Balancing the Christian Life podcast, which is absolutely excellent (https://www.balancingthechristianlife.com/),but more importantly for our purposes today, Kenny is a communications professor for St. Leo's University. Dr. Embry is a bona fide expert on how to effectively communicate ideas and why that doesn't always happen. As we talk about loving from the heart, I think communication is, by and large, a heart issue. Or, maybe another way to put that is, when we miscommunicate, we tend to miss each other's heart. I thought I'd talk to Kenny and see if I had gotten anywhere near the right mark with that hypothesis. Kenny's insights were useful for me, and I suspect they will be the same for you. "Remember, you are loved, so go, love better!"New episodes drop on Tuesdays.

ON SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2019, 33-YEAR-OLD BRANDON EMBRY WAS FOUND NUDE, UNCONSCIOUS, AND BARELY BREATHING IN A POOL OF HIS OWN BLOOD ON THE FLOOR OF HIS ASHEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA APARTMENT. HE HAD SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT TRAUMA AND WAS COVERED IN BLOOD, BRUISES, AND CUTS. HE WAS SO SEVERELY INJURED THAT HE DID NOT SURVIVE. INVESTIGATORS WERE QUICK TO CONCLUDE THAT BRANDON'S CAUSE OF DEATH WAS PNEUMONIA. THEY CLOSED HIS CASE LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AFTER HIS DEATH, STATING THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO INVESTIGATE BRANDON'S DEATH AS A HOMICIDE. THIS STATEMENT WAS MADE DESPITE THE OBVIOUS SIGNS OF A STRUGGLE, BRUTAL ASSAULT, AND A GIRLFRIEND WITH A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, OBSESSION, AND PATHOLOGICAL LYING. BRANDON'S MOTHER, SARAH HOWEVER, IS DETERMINED TO MAKE SURE THAT HER SON'S STORY IS HEARD AND THAT HE GETS JUSTICE, DESPITE WHAT THE ASHEBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT FAILED TO DO. Merry Christmas! Launch day for this week's episode is December 25th. I pray safety and joy for you and your loved ones. May the Father, Son and Spirit be with you all. About a month ago, Kenny Embry and I had a discussion about stress management. It became an hour long dive into our personal lives and things that have really made a big difference for us. As soon as we were done recording, I started looking for a place to launch this for you. It's certainly less polished and much more raw and personal that the usual weekly episode, but I hope you will approach it with love and patience. Two words you will hear a lot in the first half that can make a massive difference: Sequencing and Spacing. Each day is a mini lifetime, where you have to make decisions on what matters most, what comes first, and what gets left off the to-do list. We talk a lot about how to do that in this episode. I hope you find it helpful.Note: Season 6 starts next week! New Year's Day! I'm excited to share some things that will set the stage for 2024. Here's a hint if you want to get ahead: Read Luke 2:52. Jesus became what God needed Him to be by developing in four areas, not just one. In September of 2019, a 33-year-old man was found dead in his North Carolina apartment. Despite the scene suggesting a brutal attack and murder, his death was ultimately ruled a case of pneumonia. But considering his girlfriend was known for her obsessive, violent behavior, his family is pushing to have his case reopened. This is the story of Brandon Embry.
