So, when people search on Google, there are ads at the top. Those are all paid ads, but right below the paid ads are the organic results. And SEO is about getting you in those organic results, so you get that free traffic. So, when people search on Google for your keywords, you show up and you capture that free traffic. So, they go to your website, and hopefully on your website, you could convince them to become a sale, lead, phone call, email, whatever that conversion goal is." – BRANDON "Traffic is just half the battle. And once you get people to your website, how do you get them to convert? And that's where I try to figure out what we do to your website to make it optimized for people. That way they become a lead, a sale, or a phone call because a lot of people just focus on getting traffic, but they don't focus on what happens after that traffic gets to my website. How do I make sure that they actually stay on my website, that they go from a visitor to actual, a lead or a sale? And that's how I try to focus on that. " – BRANDON “If you don't have that positive mindset then you get distracted and frustrated because SEO does take time. Hey my friends! I’m Hayley Hobson and I’m so glad you’re here!  Welcome to the Whole You Podcast where I share tips to help women like you implement healthy hacks and habits so you can eat smarter… rest better, and get it ALL done.  Today we’re gonna talk about how crazy the internet is… And I don’t think this is really gonna be an unpopular opinion but… the online world is a noisy place these days.  It’s not enough just to be online anymore, you have to actually be FOUND by your clients and customers, right?  But being found? It’s no easy task.  Here, let me drop some stats on ya... just to paint a picture. On any given day…Google does 63,000 searches per second. PER. SECOND. Ok maybe that doesn’t sound so bad… but here’s what it translates to. 3.8 million... searches per MINUTE... That’s 5.6 BILLION... searches per day. Yup, with a B. Which means… at least 2 TRILLION searches per year. And I bet you've never thought about HOW Google serves up the results to you in a fraction of a freaking section, have you? You’re more concerned that it does it FAST, am I right? LOL So here’s another little fun fact… there are over 200 factors that play into what shows up the instant you hit ENTER. That’s some complicated coding going on in the background… And you know what? Getting on Page 1 of those results is important…  ...because 95% of web traffic comes from the first page of the search results...  Which means just 5 freaking percent comes from anything on page 2 or later. AND -- check this out -- the majority of people don’t even bother to get past the FIRST FIVE RESULTS ON PAGE 1.  I know, I know… I just threw a lot of numbers at you and your head is probably spinning… but the point is… if you wanna get found super quickly and easily on the internet? You wanna be highly ranked in Google. So -- if you could somehow hack that algorithm to show up at the top of page 1…  To soak up all that secret sauce? Well, that’d be worth a pretty penny, don’t you think? And here’s the deal. You can. The place to start is 3 little letters: S - E - O.  There are entire companies dedicated entirely to SEO… It’s literally that important. So knowing all this… it can be a little overwhelming. I GET IT. That’s why I’m so excited to be chatting with my guest today, John Vuong, an SEO expert who knows how to refine, clarify and AMPLIFY your brand and get it found online. This is the 3rd week of our four-week blogging challenge. We are continuing to build off of our Intentional Blogging workshop from the TpT Conference. This challenge was designed to help you learn to write an intentional post and optimize your blog. It's OK if you missed the conference workshop, this challenge will work for any TpTer. In fact, he says his audit conversion rate is 50%! #1 WAY TO BOOST YOUR AGENCY'S PROFILE If your agency website is not converting the way you'd like, you can change that by making sure your content is ranking for the people who're searching for it. Run a content audit on your own website. Develop a customer avatar (or several of them) and make sure your content is directed to those avatars. Take a hard look at the value you're providing compared to your competitors. Chris and I talked about one of the most common problem areas for agencies — not branding an experience well. It's not enough to tell people you do x,y, and z. You have to form an emotional connection with your clients. Chris gave a great example. Clif Bars logo has the guy hiking up a mountain with a nature backdrop. They're chunky, unique, and rugged. PowerBars tell you what's in them. It's entirely functional. Sure, PowerBars still sell. But, Clif bars were able to jump into a market and beat out the Goliaths by transforming themselves into more than the product. They're an experience. Same thing with Apple and Microsoft. Both of them have done tons of branding. But, one offers an experience, the other offers function. Both can succeed. The difference is this — Apple was able to outsell Microsoft and enter a saturated market. How? They branded an experience.

We're talking all about SEO and why you should care about it. My guess is if you clicked on this episode, you know this is something you should be doing. I hope your New Year is going well. I am starting a series here all about search engine optimization, or SEO. Most people don't really like SEO because it's kind of annoying and difficult. But if you have a website,  it's a necessary evil. Most people think it's just about finding keywords and stuffing them anywhere they can in their posts and pages, but it's actually much more than that. At the same time, it's not really as hard as you think. But it feels like a daunting subject because unless you're an SEO expert… and have been studying this forever... it's like, "Oh my gosh, you might as well tell me that I need to start coding my website from now on because it's just way too much on top of all the other things that you need to do.” We're just going to start breaking it down. In this podcast episode I'm going to tell you what it is and why you should care. Then in future episodes I'm going to tell you how you can do what you need to do with your SEO. First things first, what is SEO? It's what you do to rank in search engines. And I'm not talking about just Google… any search engine. Google is one of them. Bing, Yahoo, whatever else people use to look for stuff. But it's not you the big ones. It's also things like Facebook, Pinterest. Whenever I think about someone who can teach the intricacies and best practices required for good SEO, nobody comes to mind faster than Rand Fishkin. I had the incredible opportunity to chat with him after he gave a talk at a conference I was attending recently - this episode is my recording of that conversation. In it, you'll find a wealth of information as Rand outlines the top tips you should apply for your SEO efforts in 2018. I also asked him about his experience scaling his company (MOZ) from nothing to over 120 employees, and he revealed that the human component of scaling was the hardest part. In his usual style, Rand delivers actionable advice that anyone can apply today. Don't miss this conversation. Rand Fishkin says there are 3 reasons SEO has rapidly changed in the last 5 to 10 years and gives advice about how to deal with it If you've been paying attention, you've noticed that the best practices for SEO have changed dramatically over the last five to ten years. Rand Fishkin says there are three primary reasons for that. It has to do with Google taking over the SEO market and consequently becoming the dominant force to determine what good SEO practices should be, along with the way the marketing world, in general, has grown up over that time frame. These are intriguing concepts to explore and ones that Rand explains, along with one more, in this conversation. One of the biggest challenges around scale is the human interaction involved and the tendency toward tribalism. How do you keep team members unified? It's not easy to grow a company, but it's even harder to grow it in a way that keeps the team cohesive and working toward the same goals. That's what Rand Fishkin explains about the difficulties of scaling MOZ from a startup that consisted of him and his mother to a company of over 120 employees. There are all kinds of dynamics that arise as the team expands, including tribalism, which Rand defines and highlights as one of the biggest challenges he faced as his company continued to grow. There are a handful of lessons you can learn from the stories Rand shares on this episode, so make the time to listen. SEO for 2018 is shifting away from being predominantly keyword-driven and more toward intention-driven Though keywords are still important when it comes to SEO in 2018, the reality is that Google is attempting to make its algorithms more and more intention-driven. What does that mean for best practices for SEO? It means that those doing SEO for their websites need to keep in mind that word selections, the crafting of web titles, and even the formatting of the content on the page needs to be done in a way that tries to discern the intention of the person searching and what would cause them to land on the pages you are designing. It's sort of like trying to figure out someone's motive without talking to them, but Rand says it is the way SEO in 2018 is headed. You can hear his explanation in this conversation, so I encourage you to take the 21 minutes required to hear it. Rand Fishkin says if you only have $1000 for marketing, focus on the convergence of these three things Most startups struggle when it comes to marketing simply because they have a limited budget that has to be divvied up among many priorities, all of which feel crucial to the growth of the business. Rand Fishkin says that marketing is one of the priorities that has to stay near the top of the list, but it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg at the beginning.
