He survived some of the worst warfare in the Pacific theater in WWII, and when he returned home, he was a changed man. But it was the 1960s, so the only way to do it was to hide it all in the guise of science fiction and horror. Premiering in Canada on October 31st 1990, "Are You Afraid of the Dark" was a horror anthology series for children created by DJ MacHale. It aired on Nickelodeon until 1996 (before a soft reboot in 1999) and followed a group of kids that gathered once a week to tell stories. They referred to themselves as "The Midnight Society." With stories that ranged from terrifying to downright silly, this show was a fan favorite on the SNICK line-up.
