Morbius from 2022 is a bad film. Special guest Nic joins us this week to discuss this superhero nonsense mess. Is he a goodie? Is he a baddie? We don't know, and I don't think the film knows either. Matt Smith and Jared Harris do their best to try and save it from being Jared Leto'd, but they are not successful. It's an absolute stinking pile and we also discover the film has pretty much made it's money back to our surprise. A tiny amount of pointless Suicide Squad chat is also included for no reason. Join Gary & Jay as they review the film. In turn please leave us a 5 star review us on your podcast platform of choice. In today's episode of Sync Music Matters I'm talking to RTS Award winning Editor Mike Holliday. Mike has worked on plethora of high profile comedy productions including Horrible Histories for which he received a BAFTA on behalf of the production team, The BBC's hit comedy Ghosts, CODE 404 for Sky, The BABY for HBO, Dead Pixels, Man Down, Yonderland, Drifters and The Reluctant Landlord to name but a few. Editors are often auditioning music and making creative choices with regard to what, where and how music is used in any given TV production. As such I'm very keen to talk to them and understand their process. Mike talks about how he auditions and uses music which is invaluable for anyone who has an interest in having their music used in TV and film. He reveals some of the many parallels between composing and editing including the critical importance of rhythm and always being in service of the production as a whole. That and the fact that whether you are making music or editing footage we love revelling in the “nerdery” of it. We go Under the Skin of Ghosts and Code 404 and talk about how bands like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Rage Against The Machine have shaped his musical perspective. We also touch on the forgotten 80's classic The Man with Two Brains, and the Rotheram Born comedy duo the Chuckle Brothers which he was editing when he first started out. Pixels are the building blocks of any digital image. They determine the quality of the image and our ability to process exactly what it is that we're looking at. The plans that God has for us are like an image that is constructed by the different steps that we take in obedience to Him- much like pixels.

Cinemas may still be closed but the small screen continues to flourish and is brimming with fresh content. With plenty to pick from, we give our thoughts on The Investigation, Dead Pixels, and Space Sweepers. Season 2 of Dickinson is another topic of discussion, but does this alternative take on a literary icon mark an end to Apple TV's winning streak? In Reel News, It's Awards season again! Each year bringing us a bunch of deserved contenders and more questionable choices thrown in for good measure. We weigh in on the controversy around some of the latest nominees. Speaking of controversy, in the fast-paced modern age we live in, is it ever acceptable to jump on board a TV show whilst skipping certain seasons? James puts his case forward in Conflix of Interest, leaving Dan struggling to form his counter-argument. This week is a bit lighter for the guys as Dark is done, and they continue that trend by saying goodbye to Dead Pixels and High Score (then next week Teenage Bounty Hunters and The Umbrella Academy) but they still manage to get into some deep discussions on why Cobra Kai is so damned good, and why Hannibal is getting harder to watch. You can support this show by visiting our merch store, or by leaving us an Apple Podcasts review.

This week John and Mike say farewell to Bit Playas (hopefully not forever!) as well as Dark (forever for sure.) They also talk about their new favorite shows, Cobra Kai and Dead Pixels, and what the future is going to hold as more shows are finishing up, and fewer are coming out/back.You can support this show by visiting our merch store, or by leaving us an Apple Podcasts review.
On this episode of the Broken Speaker Podcast, we take a look at a show from across the pond about a group of friends addicted to a video game - Dead Pixels. Also, tune in to find out what we think about the hype around Dune, what theatrical releases are like in a pandemic, and how we feel about Disney+ with their Mulan antics.
On another fun-filled episode of the pocast, John and Mike discuss the ever weird Dark, the disappointment of the third season opening for Hannibal, the reality and cringeyness of Dead Pixels, and a few other new shows that they checked out (which won't be regulars for both guys, unfortunately. In the second episode of our new Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I had the chance to interview Paul Arnold and Andrew Barnabas, better known as composer duo Bob & Barn.Award-winning composers Bob & Barn have over forty years of professional experience as composers and have been working together for over fifteen on projects across video gaming, tv and film. After first meeting at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in the 90's they eventually branched out on their own in 2001. Initially composing for games such as 'Neverwinter Nights', 'Forza' and 'Primal', they later moved across into tv and film, working on projects such as 'The King Is Dead', 'Green Street 3: Never Back Down', 'The Hatton Garden Job', and most recently, E4's brilliant gamer sitcom, 'Dead Pixels', which returns for Season 2 later this year. However, there is one project for which they are most renowned, the Sony video game 'MediEvil'. They first worked on the game back in 1998 whilst they were still at Sony, along with the sequel 'MediEvil 2'. In 2005 they were approached again to score the game for 'MediEvil: Resurrection' in 2005, and most recently, have been reworking the original score for the PS4 remaster of 'MediEvil' in 2019.In the interview, Bob & Barn got into detail about creating the original sound of 'MediEvil', along with how they approached returning to the game to update the soundtrack for the 2019 remake. We also discuss the ins and outs of creating video game music in general, along with chatting about their move into tv and film, including their work on E4's 'Dead Pixels'. Line Of Duty is back! And to celebrate, we invited stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston onto the pod to tell us what's going down at AC-12 this series. As well as reviewing the show, we go full MMORPG for E4's Dead Pixels, welcome surrealist legal show The Good Fight back to our screens and check out Amazon Prime's espionage drama Hanna. All that and more on an episode that's at least 90% more anarchic than usual as Terri seemed determined to make up for her absence last week by being a complete lunatic (her Martin Brennan impression has to be heard to be believed). Oh and James goes full Farscape - you have been warned.
