Jean-François de Galaup, comte de La Pérouse, est l'un des grands explorateurs français du XVIIIᵉ siècle, resté célèbre autant pour ses découvertes que pour sa disparition mystérieuse. Né en 1741 à Albi, il se distingue très tôt dans la marine royale, notamment pendant la guerre de Sept Ans. Courageux, cultivé, apprécié de ses hommes, il attire l'attention du roi Louis XVI, passionné de géographie et d'exploration.En 1785, le souverain lui confie une mission prestigieuse : réaliser une expédition scientifique et cartographique autour du monde, dans l'esprit des voyages de James Cook. À bord de deux frégates, La Boussole et L'Astrolabe, La Pérouse embarque avec des marins, des savants, des ingénieurs et des artistes. L'objectif est triple : cartographier des terres inconnues, étudier les peuples rencontrés, et enrichir les connaissances scientifiques de la France.Pendant trois ans, son voyage est un succès. La Pérouse explore le Chili, l'île de Pâques, Hawaï, l'Alaska, la Californie, le Kamtchatka, le Japon, la Corée, les Philippines, les Samoa et l'Australie. Il décrit avec précision les rivages, les sociétés rencontrées et recueille d'innombrables données scientifiques. Ses lettres et journaux, envoyés au fur et à mesure, passionnent l'Europe éclairée.Mais en 1788, après avoir quitté Botany Bay en Australie, les navires disparaissent. Pendant près de quarante ans, leur sort demeure un mystère. La légende naît : où est passé La Pérouse ? A-t-il sombré en mer, été massacré par des insulaires, ou s'est-il réfugié sur une île perdue ?Ce n'est qu'en 1826 que l'on retrouve des traces de l'expédition. L'explorateur irlandais Peter Dillon découvre des débris aux îles Vanikoro, dans l'archipel des Salomon. Les navires de La Pérouse s'y seraient fracassés sur les récifs. Quelques survivants auraient vécu quelque temps avec les habitants avant de disparaître définitivement.La Pérouse incarne depuis l'archétype de l'explorateur romantique : savant, marin courageux, mais englouti par le mystère. Svarta hål, alltså den här typen av himlakropp som finns ute i rymden. Men innan vi börjar ska jag såklart tacka några nya patrons. Ja, som sagt, ett svart hål är en sorts himlakropp. En himlakropp är en, ja. vad som helst ute i rymden. En stjärna, en planet, en komet och liknande. Så det är himlakroppar. Och ett svart hål är en sorts himlakropp. Och det som är speciellt med svarta hål. Okej, det finns många saker som är speciella med svarta hål. Och vi ska gå igenom dem. Det här avsnittet kanske blir lite långt. för att det finns många intressanta saker med svarta hål. Men det som kanske är mest... Definitionen är att det är ett område i rymden där gravitationen är så stark att ingenting kan komma därifrån. ingenting alltså, inte ens ljus. Okej? Det är därför det heter ett svart hål. För det är som att du, om du är ute i rymden och det blir liksom som att du faller ner i ett hål, om du skulle åka in i ett svart hål. För du kan ju tänka dig ett hål i golvet, alltså det är ju ett tvådimensionellt hål, du faller ner i ett hål i golvet eller i marken. Men det här är ett tredimensionellt hål, så att säga, så att du faller in från alla vinklar. eftersom ljus inte kan komma därifrån så ser det svart ut helt enkelt. (Kejadian 3:11-13)Renungan: Seorang anak lahir setelah 11 tahun pernikahan. Mereka adalah pasangan yang saling mencintai dan anak itu adalah buah hati mereka. Saat anak itu berumur 2 tahun, suatu pagi si ayah melihat sebotol obat yang terbuka. Dia terlambat untuk ke kantor, maka dia meminta istrinya untuk menutupnya dan menyimpannya di lemari. Istrinya karena kesibukannya di dapur sama sekali melupakan hal tersebut. Anak itu melihat botol itu dan dengan riang memainkannya. Karena tertarik dengan warna obat tersebut lalu si anak memakannya semua. Obat tersebut adalah obat keras yang bahkan untuk orang dewasa pun hanya dalam dosis kecil saja. Sang istri segera membawa si anak ke rumah sakit. Tapi si anak tidak tertolong. Sang istri ngeri membayangkan bagaimana dia harus menghadapi suaminya. Ketika si suami datang ke rumah sakit dan melihat anaknya telah meninggal, dia melihat kepada istrinya dan mengucapkan 3 kata, "SAYA BERSAMAMU SAYANG." Reaksi sang suami yang tidak disangka-sangka adalah sikap proaktif. Si anak sudah meninggal dan tidak bisa dihidupkan kembali. Tidak ada gunanya mencari-cari kesalahan pada sang istri. Lagipula seandainya dia menyempatkan waktu untuk menutup dan menyimpan botol tersebut, maka hal itu tidak akan terjadi. Tidak ada yang perlu disalahkan. Si istri juga kehilangan anak semata wayangnya. Apa yang si istri perlu saat itu adalah penghiburan dari sang suami, dan itulah yang diberikan suaminya saat itu. Jika semua orang dapat melihat hidup dengan cara pandang seperti ini, maka akan terdapat lebih sedikit permasalahan di dunia ini. Salah satu sifat dosa adalah saling menyalahkan satu dengan yang lain. Adam menyalahkan Hawa, Hawa menyalahkan ular. Masing-masing tidak mau dipersalahkan, karena hal ini menyangkut tanggung jawab. Banyak orang lari dari tanggung jawab dan melemparkannya kepada orang lain. Tanpa kita sadari banyak orang menderita karena kita mau cari selamat sendiri. Hari ini kita diajak untuk mengatakan kebenaran tanpa harus mengorbankan atau mempersalahkan orang lain, "Jika ya, hendaklah kamu katakan: ya, jika tidak, hendaklah kamu katakan: tidak. Apa yang lebih dari pada itu berasal dari si jahat." (Mat 5:37). Tuhan Yesus memberkati. Elle est aussi coordinatrice nationale au CENALT, le Centre d'Alerte aux Tsunamis.Un séisme d'une ampleur exceptionnelle a été enregistré ce matin au large de la péninsule du Kamtchatka, dans l'Extrême-Orient russe. D'une magnitude de 8,8, cette secousse figure parmi les six plus puissants jamais mesurés sur la planète. Elle rappelle les grands séismes et tsunamis récents : celui de 2004 en Indonésie, qui a fait 230 000 morts, et celui de 2011 au Japon, qui avait submergé la centrale nucléaire de Fukushima. Par précaution, les employés de cette centrale ont été évacués ce matin.Le séisme a généré une série de vagues impressionnantes dans l'océan Pacifique, avec un mur d'eau de 5 mètres observé sur les côtes russes. Des vagues sont attendues dans les prochaines heures à Hawaï, en Alaska, sur la côte ouest des États-Unis, au Pérou, en Chine, ainsi qu'en Polynésie française, notamment dans les îles Marquises. L'alerte tsunami a été déclenchée sur l'ensemble de la zone Pacifique. Ces vagues peuvent se propager à plus de 700 km/h. Le phénomène de retrait brutal de la mer, souvent spectaculaire, est considéré comme un signe précurseur d'un déferlement à venir. Des échouages de baleines ont été signalés sur les côtes japonaises, parfois interprétés comme des signaux avant-coureurs. Une attention particulière est portée aux répliques, dont la fréquence et l'intensité restent incertaines.Ce contexte ravive aussi les inquiétudes concernant le risque de tsunami en Méditerranée. En 2022, l'UNESCO estimait à 100 % la probabilité qu'un tsunami, avec une vague de plus d'un mètre, frappe dans les 30 prochaines années les côtes méditerranéennes, notamment des villes françaises comme Marseille, Nice, Cannes ou Antibes. L'activité sismique est en hausse dans la région Pacifique, avec des phénomènes de plus en plus puissants. Aux États-Unis, la Californie se prépare depuis des décennies à un événement majeur, le redouté "Big One", un séisme de magnitude supérieure à 8,5 sur l'échelle de Richter. Hélène Hébert, géophysicienne au CEA, décryptera le séisme majeur au large de la Russie, les risques de tsunami dans le Pacifique et les dispositifs d'alerte en place.

L'histoire du “Merci Train” – ou “Train de la Reconnaissance Française” – est l'un des plus beaux gestes de remerciement entre deux nations au XXe siècle. Son origine remonte à la période de l'après-Seconde Guerre mondiale, dans un contexte de solidarité transatlantique sans précédent.En 1947, l'Europe sort à peine de la guerre. La France, comme d'autres pays, est exsangue : les villes sont détruites, la population souffre du froid et du rationnement. C'est dans ce contexte que les États-Unis organisent une vaste collecte humanitaire, appelée le “Friendship Train” : des milliers de tonnes de vivres, vêtements et médicaments sont envoyés à la France et à l'Italie. Le peuple américain, ému par les souffrances européennes, répond massivement à cet appel.Un an plus tard, en 1948, un mouvement inverse se met en place. Touchés par cette générosité, les Français décident de remercier le peuple américain. C'est l'industriel et résistant André Picard qui lance l'idée d'un train chargé de cadeaux, offerts non pas par le gouvernement, mais par des milliers de citoyens français.On baptise ce projet le “Merci Train”. Il se compose de 49 wagons de type “40 and 8” — un modèle utilisé pendant la guerre pour transporter les troupes (appelé ainsi car chaque wagon pouvait contenir 40 hommes ou 8 chevaux). Chaque wagon est offert à un État américain (les 48 de l'époque plus un pour Washington D.C. et Hawaï).À l'intérieur de ces wagons : des dizaines de milliers de cadeaux envoyés par les Français. On y trouve des jouets, des vêtements, des œuvres d'art, des lettres d'enfants, des sabots, du vin, de la porcelaine, et même un gobelet ayant appartenu à Napoléon. Tout est collecté localement, de façon volontaire, dans un grand élan de solidarité.Le train quitte Le Havre en février 1949 et traverse l'Atlantique à bord d'un navire américain. À son arrivée à New York, il est accueilli avec une ferveur immense. In this episode we dive into books 1 and 57 of the enormous Sweet Valley High series, Double Love and Teacher Crush. Who knew books about high school sororities (?!?) and mandatory electives could be so compelling? In this episode of TBMM, we play the vintage SVH board game, learn about Hawa's twinness, hear about Hannah's faux twinness, and Hawa implies that Heather is 60. These books are really struggling to pass the Bechdel test, but we kind of love them. As season 9 of the podcast draws to a close, it's feeling like a full circle moment thematically. The conversations began this season around what it means to value labour, specifically whose labour is and isn't valued to power a global food supply, and an exposé of the cruel treatment of migrant workers coming to the U.S. But the process of migrating, and the experiences that come with it, are incredibly important stories. What does it mean to carry culture through food when you've been displaced, and how can food serve as the foundation to continue resilience and pass along important cultural heritage through recipes? I spoke with Hawa Hassan today to explore these questions. Hawa is a James Beard Award winner and culinary triple threat: dynamic chef, TV personality, and entrepreneur. She's the founder of Basbaas, a line of sauce and condiments inspired by her home country of Somalia, a fast-growing brand that has been featured in Forbes, the New York Times, Eater, and more. Hawa Hassan was born in Somalia and left before the age of six due to conflict in the country. As a refugee in Kenya with her mother and siblings, Hawa would later receive an opportunity to leave the country at the age of seven and relocate to Seatle, Washington where she would complete her schooling before moving to New York to pursue a career in modeling. After a years of modeling, successfully, she began to look at her life differently and time visiting her family in Norway where they now lived, set her on the course of using food as a way to connect with loved ones and create a space to bring people of diverse backgrounds together.
