Yüzler ve eller, namazda ve bakmak hususunda avret sayılmamıştır. Bu sebeple bahsi geçen uzuvların açıkta kalması haram olmadığı gibi, mahrem olmayan kadınların el ve yüzüne şehvet bulunmaksızın bakmak da yasaklanmış değildir. Nur Suresi 31. Ayette kadınların başörtülerini örtmeleri ihtar edilmekte "yakalarının üstünü kapayacak şekilde" ifadesiyle açıklanmış bulunmaktadır. Önce şu hususu hatırlatmak yerinde olur: Kadının giydiği elbise, vücut hatlarının kılıfı mesabesinde olmayacaktır. Şehveti tahrik etmemesi için altını göstermeyecek kadar kalın, vücut hatlarını ve altındaki uzvun şeklini belli etmeyecek kadar bolca dikilmiş olmalıdır. Hz. Âişe (r.anha) validemizin kız kardeşi Esma (r.anha.) bir gün ablasını ziyarete gelmişti. Üzerinde ince bir elbise bulunuyordu. Resûlullâh (s.a.v) Efendimiz de Hz. Âişe (r.anha)'nın odasında oturmakta idi. Peygamber (s.a.v) Efendimiz onu bu halde görünce derhal başını çevirerek şöyle buyurdu: "Yâ Esma! Kadın hayız (görecek yaş)a ulaştığı zaman şunlardan başka bir yerinin görülmesi iyi olmaz." Bunu söylerken mübarek yüz ve ellerine işaret ediyordu. Kadının tesettür vazifesi, sadece üzerine bir şey giyivermekle bitmiyor. Elbisenin, vücudu göstermemesi ve şehveti tahrik etmemesi de şart gösteriliyor. Abdurrahman b. Ebû Bekr'in kızı Hafsa, halası Hz. Âişe (r.anha)'nın ziyaretine gelmişti. Başındaki örtü ince ve altını göstermekte idi. Hz.Âişe (r.anha), dinî bir öfke ile yeğeninin başından ince örtüyü alıp yırttı ve onun yerine kalın bir örtü verdi. Bir mesele hakkında nas bulunursa o hususta örf ve âdete itibar olunmaz. Hareketlerimizde âdetlere değil, âyetlere tâbi olacağız. Verilecek bir hüküm, geleneklere göre değil, dinî esaslar çerçevesinde değerlendirilerek verilecektir. (Derleme)

His brothers Abdurrahman and Abdullah — both Irish citizens born in Belfast — remain trapped in Gaza, along with their father, Professor Ali El-Astal, who lived in Belfast for eight years while completing his PhD in Physics and researching at Queen's University.
