Today we're talking observability, open source, developer education and the politics of conference speaking. And we're doing it all with our amazing guest, Zameer Fouzan from New Relic. If you don't already know, New Relic helps engineers effectively deploy and run software with Full Stack Observability. Where other companies may do observability, but don't have a single language to communicate it, New Relic makes use of a single specification that caters to all languages and frameworks with the same APIs and languages. Part of Zameer's job is of course, speaking at various conferences and he chats to us about how he's evolved as a speaker since first starting out, and gives us his best advice for both new and experienced speakers. *) Illegal settlers, Israeli soldiers raid West Bank villages Illegal Israeli settlers and soldiers stormed several villages and towns in the occupied West Bank overnight, leading to confrontations with Palestinian residents. Palestinian Television reported that one person was injured during a raid by settlers who were protected by the army in the village of Umm Safa in northern Ramallah. The head of the local village council, Marwan Sabah, said settlers positioned at Jabal al-Ras attacked the village and fired live ammunition at homes, with the backing of the Israeli army. *) Missile from Yemen fell in central Israel — Israeli army The Israeli military said a missile fired from Yemen crossed into central Israel and "fell in an open area". The army said in a statement that "a surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing into central Israel from the East and fell in an open area. No injuries were reported." *) Türkiye urges int'l investigation into Israel's killing of Turkish activist Turkish Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun has called on the US to investigate Israel's killing of activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi. Türkiye has launched an investigation into Israel's killing of the dual Turkish-American citizen. *) Head of NATO military committee backs Kiev's right to strike inside Russia Admiral Rob Bauer, head of NATO's military committee, said that Ukraine has the right to strike deep into Russia for combat advantage. This stance reflects the views of several US allies, though the Biden administration is cautious about allowing such strikes with American-made weapons. Bauer asserted that nations under attack have the right to defend themselves beyond their borders. He also highlighted that countries can impose limits on the weapons they supply to Ukraine. *) Maldives says no need for IMF bailout Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer announced that the tropical paradise is moving forward with tax hikes to handle its debt. Zameer reassured reporters that their bilateral partners are understanding their situation. He said, “We're not looking to the IMF right now,” noting that their current reserve dip is just a temporary issue, reforms and streamlining state-owned enterprises will boost liquidity.

Questions linger over the Umar Zameer first degree murder charge in the death of Toronto police Detective Constable Jeffrey Northrup and reaction to the trial of Mr. Zameer which came to an end last Sunday with a not guilty jury verdict, as well as the trial judge's "deepest apologies" expressed to Mr. Zameer. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw's statement following the verdict that police "were hoping for a different outcome" has caused the Canadian Civil Liberties Association to engage and on Thursday the CCLA wanted to know what steps the Toronto Police Services Board will take to ensure the Chief and other police members will not "publicly malign bail decisions or criminal verdicts in the future." Toronto Police Service has responded, saying the chief "has stated numerous times that he supports the justice system and accepts the decision by the jury." Comments made by Ontario premier Doug Ford, who described bail issued to Mr. Zameer as "completely unacceptable." Ford has since said his statement was based on "limited information" about the case. We speak to the head of the Toronto Police Association, representing rank and file officers. This after Umar Zameer advised "police should not commit perjury, or put up people prepared to commit perjury." Guest: Jon Reid. President Toronto Police Association. Why are university students in both Canada and the United States, as well as in Europe particularly engaging in "Jew hatred?" The clinical term is antisemitism, but really in the post secondary environments it is blatant Jew hatred which I for one never expected to experience at all in Canada, let alone at the level we're witnessing. We're going to speak with Jewish Canadians both today and tomorrow and one of our guests tomorrow was the specific target of vicious and intimidating Jew hatred. Guest: Professor Eric Kam. Usually our go-to macroeconomics professor dealing with our national and personal economies, but today back to speak about Jew hatred on university campuses and one in particular. His university campus. Toronto Metropolitan University. Three weeks ago Professor Kam joined us with Emma, a Jewish student of his who feels empowered after discussing the issue of antisemitism at TMU with Professor Kam. --------------------------------------------- Host/Content Producer – Roy Green Technical/Podcast Producer – Tom Craig If you enjoyed the podcast, tell a friend! This week, I cover the appointment of the new NS Justice Minister and SiRT Director, the Toronto Police Chief's Comments in the Zameer acquittal, former President Trump's claim to criminal immunity at the US Supreme Court, and how Harvey Weinstein's successful appeal would have played out in Canada. Before that, I discuss the Pierre Poilievre well-received visit to eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, and his controversial stop at the NS/NB border.
Guest: Betsy Powell, courts reporter After the death of police Const. Jeffrey Northrup, the trial of Umar Zameer for first degree murder galvanized attention (and political rage) in the Toronto area. Now that he's been found not guilty, people are left with questions about a prosecution that always seemed to be based on flimsy grounds. Reporter Betsy Powell covered the case for the Star from its beginnings to its conclusion, and spoke one-on-one with Zameer following the verdict. Now on “This Matters,” she shares her overview of the case, how the judge had expressed skepticism all along and the rare apology that judge issued to the defendant. We also share Zameer's own reflections on the trial from Powell's interview. What would you like to hear on Toronto Star podcasts? Welcome back, Kids!We eased into the show with a full-on domestic dispute about Media, and Lochlin was NOT happy with Dean. LOLZWe got into a couple of food hacks (PB&J Oatmeal for your asshole) and the magic of COSCTO Rotisserie chickens and a man who takes that Chicken VERY seriously. Leafs, Jets, Oilers, and Canucks all started hot out of the gate for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dean is a Leafs fan but wanted to talk about how INSANE the vibe is in Winnipeg. Jets fans are built differently and deserve some National Pub.Winnipeg Arena is a fuckin MADHOUSE. If you've been paying attention to the news in Canada, Umar Zameer's story is one of the biggest in years. We went over the details of his arrest and acquittal, which included the Judge firmly accusing TPS officers and counsel of trying to sell multiple lies to put an innocent man in prison for the rest of his life. If you have any trust issues with police or have ever been wrongly arrested or prosecuted (Like Lochlin for littering in the 10th grade - lol), this story will trigger the shit out of you. Mr Zameer was just acquitted of first-degree murder charges in the miserable death of a Toronto Police Service member, Constable James Northrup. Hosted on Acast. Defence lawyer Nader Hasan alleges three police officers committed perjury when they testified at the murder trial of Umar Zameer. The Toronto man was found not guilty Sunday in the death of Toronto police officer Det.-Const. Jeffrey Northrup, but Hasan says he's not sure any criminal charges would ever have been laid if the victim had not been a police officer.

Accusations of collusion and perjury by three officers during the Umar Zameer trial, where Zameer was found not guilty, has attracted scrutiny as Toronto's police chief orders a review into plainclothes procedures; a 15-year-old teen is fighting for his life after he struck an object while on top of a moving GO Train just after midnight on Sunday; and, an EV battery plant from Honda would be the third in Ontario after deals with Stellantis-LG in Windsor and Volkswagen in St. Thomas.
After five weeks Umar Zameer was acquitted of the death of undercover Toronto Police Det. Const. Jeffrey Northrup but the focus has now turned to the officers who testified and politicians who made comments when Zameer initially received bail.
A Toronto jury acquits Umar Zameer of first-degree murder charges - in the death of a police officer. Also: The historic hush money trial of Donald Trump is set to begin on Monday. We'll give you a preview of the opening arguments. Plus: The work of an artist from Hamilton, Ontario is on display at the Venice Art Biennale - illuminating history with brightly coloured beads.
This week, I examine several cases involving juries, Jeremy MacKenzie's efforts to have his NS charges dismissed, the expanding scope of video testimony, and justice spending in the new federal budget. First, on the 4th anniversary of the Portapique shootings, the NS Minister of Justice has resigned after his comments on domestic violence not being an 'epidemic'. I discuss those comments, as well as the lack of apparent effort on the Government's part to make the changes to domestic violence policy that the MCC recommended. I also briefly discuss the first dog to be subject to a custody order (in BC), and a Saskatchewan father convicted of violating a custody order when he tried to keep his daughter from getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

This is the first episode of a 10 Part series, "Designer's Digest”. This series is about Design as a profession, it's daily grind, the secrets to climbing the design career ladder and what edge we'll need to thrive in the captivating world of design. We start with Ayaz Basrai. Ayaz has been on Audiogyan's 104th Episode where we spoke about “Designing interiors for your city.” He is the founder of The Busride Studio based in Goa and Mumbai along with his brother Zameer. Ayaz Graduated in Industrial Design, specialising in Product Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in 2003. Ayaz studio ‘The Busride' as an independent Design Studio specialising in the design and creation of environments, ranging from Hospitality, Entertainment venues, Film and Production to Exhibitions and temporary installations, and more. Questions asked in the episode Who according to you is a designer? You have been questioning this a lot. What according to you is a role of a designer when they mature in their practice. Do the lines blur with art and then things become political or social in nature? You have been engaging with very young talent like Prathmesh Jaju and others. Whats the reason for going so wide in our interest areas? How does it enrich your practice? Eliel Saarinen's famous line, “Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context - a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan." What's your take on it? Is it a pyramid kind of a thinking? You have been tinkering a lot with rizhomatic thinking? Tell us a little bit about it. Does the other node need to have equally good to understand the larger context context to pass it on? You talk about intergenerational kindness by giving the Oxford examples. What is it and how can that be practised by us who are future ancestors? What is India Futures Project? Why do you engage in speculative fiction from a designer's lens? Why create these future looking narratives? Are there instances of this done in the past of which we, inadvertently, we are part of? How real these narratives were back then, if any? You have an article about placeless-ness. What provokes you to think of these future spaces while we are still having cows and camels on the road. Would you venture into these 15 minute cities or explore shapes and forms of cities in the meta-verse? On which principles of foundations these exploration happen? We are looking at how AI in the cradle is smiling at us. What kind of skills do Centaur Designers will need to have? How would designers of the future look like? Not just in the software and industrial realm but textile, graphics, interiors and so on… Reference reading https://www.architectandinteriorsindia.com/lists/ayaz-zameer-basrai-co-founders-the-busride-design-studio https://www.instagram.com/thebusride/ https://www.thepracticecept.com/thebusride https://thehardcopy.co/in-conversation-with-ayaz-basrai/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEiJMVjMyrE https://issuu.com/thebusride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQWAJBpfzp8 https://www.stirworld.com/inspire-people-arthur-mamou-mani-x-ayaz-basrai-cross-border-conversations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMEaLTat3wE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZJ4T50o95E

In episode 03 of season 02, we sit down with Zameer Masjedee, 2018 Fellow, and the man who's trying to revolutionize podcasts and redesign commerce. Zameer is a Sr. Solutions Engineer at Shopify by day, and the Co-Founder of LISN, a platform helping to organize and highlight the best clips from a podcast by night. He gets real about having tough conversations about goals with your team, the unexpected hurdles that come with starting a business, and how focusing on the right things like your mission can help you make fast and appropriate decisions for the growth of your business. Shopify has taught him how to scale a company, and how as an individual you can strive towards always having a positive impact. If you're looking to put your podcast or business on the map, then let Zameer teach you a little something.
