“If you can only explain the arguments of the other side because they're mad or dangerous or dumb, the problem is with you.” — Turi Munthe On yesterday's show, the psychiatrist Sally Satel described how Americans imagine their own mental condition differently, depending on their politics and age. Which is a nice segue for today's conversation with the Anglo-French journalist turned media entrepreneur Turi Munthe. It's not just in our mental health self-evaluation, Munthe argues, that we hallucinate reality. Indeed, the French born Munthe often sounds like one of his post-structuralist compatriots in his defiantly slippery notion of ontological reality. In Why We Think What We Think: The Unexpected Origins of Our Deepest Beliefs, Munthe argues that our deepest convictions turn out to be shaped by genetics, brain shape and sometimes even by the agricultural legacy of our distant ancestors. Left and right thinkers, Munthe argues, are different political phenotypes — each hallucinating their own version of reality. Total relativism, then — the full French post-structuralist monty? Not quite. Here's where Munthe's Englishness kicks in. Following the Anglo-Russian philosopher Isaiah Berlin, Munthe insists pluralism and relativism are different. So Turi Munthe doesn't just think what he thinks because of his English or French origins. Borrowing from the cognitive scientists Dan Sperber and Hugo Mercier, Munthe defines thinking as a “contact sport”. So, for example, believing that the 2020 election was stolen is what Munthe calls a social commitment, because humans would rather be wrong together than right alone. Speaking of convenient segues, Munthe's thoughts on thinking set the scene for next Tuesday's conversation with Emily Eakin, author of The Frenchmen. It's her history of seductive post-structuralists like Foucault, Derrida and Lacan who corrupted a whole generation of literary American Ivy Leaguers (including Eakin) into hallucinating reality. Five Takeaways •       Pluralism Is Not Relativism. Munthe opens with Isaiah Berlin's distinction: registering the sincerity and value of opinions across the political, religious, and ethical spectrum does not relativize truth. That Charles Windsor is King of the United Kingdom is a statement of fact; whether you're a monarchist or a republican is where opinion begins. The book confines itself to the second category — beliefs, values, and opinions that cannot be factually proven — and asks what the nonrational influences on them actually are. The answer is humbling: genetics account for perhaps half of political persuasion, and the rest is shaped by everything from brain anatomy to the agriculture of our ancestors. •       Different Political Phenotypes. At the margins, left and right differ neurologically: right-leaners are on average more readily startled by loud noises and more attentive to threat, while left-leaners carry a slightly larger anterior cingulate cortex — the brain region where we process ambiguity and split hairs. That anatomy, Munthe argues, explains the ideological capture of academia and media better than any conspiracy: hair-splitters go where the hair-splitting is, and a conservative 22-year-old doesn't volunteer for a newsroom where 80% of colleagues think differently. We are, in his phrase, different political phenotypes, each hallucinating a different version of reality. •       Thinking as a Contact Sport. Drawing on Dan Sperber and Hugo Mercier's research, Munthe argues that reason didn't evolve for solitary contemplation — Rodin's Thinker is the wrong image — but for argument: to convince you to hunt the buffalo with me, I need reasons that look objective to you too. The evidence is everywhere, from the most impactful academic papers being written by pairs and groups to the creative density of small university towns. The implication is political: the people we disagree with are not obstacles to good thinking but the condition of it — the loyal opposition that helps us get out of ourselves. •       Wrong Together Rather Than Right Alone. Munthe's reading of January 6 and the stolen-election faith is social rather than psychiatric: an enormous number of our beliefs matter more for what they do than for what they say, and professing them is a commitment to a group. From an evolutionary perspective, believing what your village believes — even about the god who is a giant rock at the end of the field — is intelligent, because the ostracized lose the protection of the group. The terrifying data point is the marriage test: in the 1950s, around 4% of families would have objected to a child marrying across party lines; today it approaches 45%. That is affective polarization, and it can pull societies apart. •       The Problem Is With You. Munthe spent his twenties unable to fathom American gun rights — supporters had to be bought, dumb, or morally corrupt — until he did the work and found a tradition he now calls beautiful and heroic, whether or not he shares it. His rule of thumb: if you can only explain the other side's arguments as madness, danger, or stupidity, the problem is with you. This is not centrism — there was no middle ground on slavery or the Holocaust — but a defense of the clash itself: societies need the left to fix inequality and the right to defend the village, and we think best when the two are, in his words, continually bashed against each other. About the Guest Turi Munthe is a journalist and policy analyst turned media entrepreneur. Seimas nusprendė steigti papildomas valstybės finansuojamas rezidentūros vietas, tačiau jas pasirinkę gydytojai penkerius metus turės dirbti regione. Kritikai primena, kad valstybės finansuojamų rezidentūros vietų Lietuvoje ir taip daugelį metų neužtekdavo visiems medicinos studijas baigusiems absolventams. Kasmet stigdavo apie 40-60 rezidentūros vietų. O nebaigus rezidentūros, negali Lietuvoje tapti ir dirbti gydytoju specialistu.Jaunųjų gydytojų organizacijos įspėja, kad toks modelis gali sumažinti savivaldybių motyvaciją konkuruoti dėl specialistų didesniais atlyginimais ir geresnėmis darbo sąlygomis, kaip tai yra Skandinavijos šalyse, Vokietijoje ar ir daugelyje kitų senos demokratijos Europos šalių.Opozicija kelia ir lygiateisiškumo klausimą – kodėl tokie įsipareigojimai taikomi tik gydytojams. Bet jie netaikomi nei mokytojams, nei inžinieriams, nei teisininkams, nei vadybininkams, nei finansininkams, nors pastarųjų taip pat stinga regionuose.Be kita ko, daugelyje ES šalių rezidentai pirmiausia yra gydytojai darbuotojai, o ne studentai. Guía turística cinéfila de Los Ángeles con Samuel Melero: pistolas, neones, comida y alguna que otra anécdota sorprendente. En Cine de barra siempre hemos defendido que viajar está bien… pero viajar siguiendo localizaciones de películas está muchísimo mejor. Por eso, en este nuevo episodio nos vamos directamente a Los Ángeles, la ciudad donde puedes cruzarte con una estrella de Hollywood, un vagabundo disfrazado de Spider-Man o una localización de Heat… todo en la misma calle y probablemente en menos de diez minutos. Gracias al gran Samuel Melero, auténtico explorador de escenarios cinematográficos y persona capaz de orientarse en Los Ángeles sin acabar llorando en una autopista de doce carriles, recorremos algunos de los lugares más míticos del cine moderno. Porque claro, una cosa es ver Terminator 2 en casa y otra muy distinta es plantarte delante del canal de hormigón donde Arnold protegía al pobre John Connor mientras medio planeta aprendía que el futuro daba bastante miedo. También nos detenemos en escenarios de Heat, esa película que convirtió Los Ángeles en el lugar ideal para tomarte un café… o atracar un banco con elegancia. Y, cómo no, aparecen rincones relacionados con El caballero oscuro, porque Christopher Nolan tiene la extraña habilidad de hacer que cualquier edificio parezca importante y amenazante a la vez. Pero el episodio no se queda en las localizaciones clásicas. Aquí también hay espacio para el turismo especializado, concretamente el turismo para gente que sueña con entrar en un restaurante y pensar: “aquí podría aparecer Samuel L. Jackson gritando algo”. Sí, hablamos de lugares imprescindibles para fans de Tarantino, esos sitios donde uno espera encontrarse una conversación absurda sobre hamburguesas antes de que alguien saque una katana. Y por si fuera poco, Samuel comparte una anécdota con Kevin Smith que demuestra dos cosas: que el universo a veces tiene sentido del humor y que las historias improvisadas suelen ser mejores que las preparadas. El resultado es un episodio perfecto para cinéfilos viajeros, viajeros cinéfilos o simplemente gente que quiere escuchar cómo otros recorren Los Ángeles mientras ellos están atrapados en un atasco mucho menos cinematográfico. Ponte las gafas de sol, súbete al coche imaginario y acompáñanos en este paseo entre neones, crimen ficticio y amor absoluto por el cine.

Anunțul a fost făcut de prim-ministrul Alexandru Munteanu la ședința Guvernului. „Republica Moldova și FMI sunt pe aceeași lungime de undă în ceea ce privește direcția economică a țării”, a declarat Munteanu. „Un semnal clar că partenerii internaționali consideră că Republica Moldova are o echipă profesionistă, se mișcă într-o direcție corectă, într-un ritm bun, chiar și atunci când circumstanțele externe rămân foarte complicate”, a menționat premierul moldovean. „Noul program PCI, care este un program fără finanțare, conceput pentru a susține politici economice solide, confirmă angajamentul continuu al autorităților față de asigurarea stabilității macroeconomice și financiare și a creșterii economice durabile”, a declarat șefa misiunii FMI, Alina Iancu, la finalul vizitei. FMI arată că economia Republicii Moldova și-a revenit în 2025, însă rămâne vulnerabilă la șocuri externe, în special în sectorul energetic. PIB-ul a crescut anul trecut cu 2,4%, susținut de cererea internă și de redresarea sectorului agricol, iar inflația medie a fost de 7,8%. Pentru acest an, arată FMI, inflația în Republica Moldova ar putea depăși 8%, iar ritmul de creștere al economiei va încetini până la 1,5%. Instituția precizează că perspectivele economice ale țării depind în mare măsură de durata și intensitatea războiului din Orientul Mijlociu și a conflictului din Ucraina. *** După ce a deblocat suportul financiar de 90 de miliarde pentru Ucraina, noul premier al Ungariei pune condiții pentru aderarea țării vecine la UE și îl invită pe Volodimir Zelenski la dialog. Vorbind la o conferință de presă comună, la Varșovia, cu omologul său polonez Donald Tusk, Peter Magyar a spus tranșant că protejarea drepturilor minorității maghiare din Transcarpatia este o condiție prealabilă pentru acceptarea negocierilor cu Ucraina, scrie TV8. „Au început negocierile tehnice privind drepturile lingvistice, culturale și de altă natură ale minorității maghiare care trăiește în Carpați, astfel încât acestea să primească ceea ce se cuvine tuturor minorităților din Uniunea Europeană. Și sper și am încredere că această serie de negocieri va avea loc rapid și eficient și ne vom putea întâlni cu președintele Zelenski cândva la începutul lunii iunie”, a subliniat noul prim-ministru al Ungariei, Peter Magyar. Republica Moldova urmărește cu atenție poziția Ungariei privind deblocarea negocierilor cu Kievul, pentru că în acest moment este tratată la pachet cu Ucraina, iar în iunie mizează pe deschiderea negocierilor politice de aderare la UE. *** Cancelarul german Friedrich Merz a propus acordarea unui statut de „membru asociat” al Uniunii Europene pentru Ucraina, ca alternativă temporară la aderarea deplină, considerată nerealistă pe termen scurt din cauza procedurilor complexe și a obstacolelor politice existente în interiorul blocului comunitar. Potrivit agenției dpa, inițiativa a fost inclusă într-o scrisoare adresată conducerii Uniunii Europene, transmite Moldpres. Potrivit propunerii, Ucraina ar putea participa la reuniunile Consiliului European și ale Consiliului UE, însă fără drept de vot. Totodată, Kievul ar putea avea reprezentanți asociați în cadrul Comisiei Europene, Parlamentului European și Curții de Justiție a UE, dar fără competențe decizionale. În ceea ce privește alte state candidate, inclusiv Republica Moldova, Albania și Muntenegru, Friedrich Merz propune „soluții inovatoare” pentru accelerarea integrării europene. Printre acestea se numără acces preferențial la piața unică europeană, implicare mai strânsă în activitatea instituțiilor UE și statut de observator în anumite structuri comunitare. *** Nu există motive pentru a amâna deschiderea negocierilor de aderare a Republicii Moldova la UE pe toate clusterele, iar Consiliul European din iunie ar trebui să adopte o decizie favorabilă pentru Chișinău în acest sens. Declarația a fost făcută pentru NewsMaker de vicepreședintele Parlamentului European, Victor Negrescu. Acesta a mai spus că Transnistria nu reprezintă un impediment pentru aderarea Moldovei la UE, invocând precedentul Ciprului, stat membru cu un conflict teritorial nerezolvat, care deține în prezent președinția Consiliului Uniunii Europene. *** Și europarlamentarul Dan Barna cere instituțiilor UE să-și onoreze promisiunile față de Chișinău, în condițiile în care cinci rânduri de alegeri, Moldova a rezistat interferențelor Rusiei. Dan Barna a declarat corespondentului NewsMaker că blocajul instituit de Budapesta în procesul de extindere ar putea fi depășit în săptămânile următoare. *** Două alerte false cu bombă au fost înregistrate în noaptea de 21 mai la Aeroportul Internațional Chișinău. Pasagerii și personalul au fost evacuați conform procedurilor de securitate. Potrivit unui comunicat emis de Poliția de Frontieră, în urma verificărilor efectuate de serviciile specializate, nu au fost descoperite obiecte suspecte sau explozive. Zeci de alerge false cu bombă au fost înregistrate la aeroportul Chișinău în ultimii ani. Experții în securitate spun că acestea sunt elemente ale războiului hibrid purtat de forțele pro-ruse în contextul războiului din Ucraina, dar și a evoluțiilor politice interne din Republica Moldova, ca tentativă de a crea tensiuni și a scădea încrederea în instituții. „Situația a fost gestionată operativ și în condiții de siguranță, cu respectarea normelor de securitate”, anunță în comunicat Aeroportul Chișinău, în contextul incidentelor de noaptea trecută.

Todėl Vyriausybė įpareigota bent dalį paslaugų pradėti teikti senjorams prieinamais būdais. Kaip vyresnių žmonių nepalikti skaitmeninėje atskirtyje?Vairuotojus glumina miestuose prieš kelerius metus atsiradusios dviračių gatvės, kuriose eismo pirmenybė suteikiama dviratininkams, o automobiliams draudžiama juos aplenkti. Būtent pastaroji aplinkybė lemia, kad vairuotojai po manevro tokioje gatvėje netenka pažymėjimo. Ar reikėtų keisti KET ir leisti tokiose gatvėse lenkti lėtai važiuojančius dviratininkus, ar nieko nekeisti ir tokių gatvių miestuose įrengti daugiau?Ar tikrai, kaip perspėja pramonininkai, Europa artėja prie krizės, kokios seniai nebuvo? Kaip tokius verslininkų signalus vertina vyriausybė ir kokių priemonių jau dabar reikia imtis?Šimtais prarasti vaiko pinigai ir nėra ko kaltinti. Tokioje situacijoje atsidūrė tėvai, kurių vaikui suėjus aštuoniolikai manė, kad jų atžalai išmoka jau nepriklauso. Tačiau jaunuoliai, sulaukę pilnametystės ir besimokantys ugdymo įstaigoje, vaiko pinigų nepraranda, bet yra viena sąlyga. Kokia?Rokiškyje – nauja iniciatyva, skirta šeimoms su mažais vaikais.
