Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. All stories are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. The rules for law and order create the boundaries for civil co-existence and, ideally, the backdrops for individuals, families, and companies to grow and thrive. Breaking these rules puts civil order at risk. And while murder is the Big Daddy of crimes, codified ordinances across municipal divisions, counties, states, and countries show the nearly endless ways there are to create mayhem. This season, we put our detective skills to the test in new and creative way. This is Season 8, Anything but Murder. This is Episode 3, jewel theft is the featured crime. This is THE LAST DIAMOND by Kathleen Marple KalbDeliberation Detective Connie Mercado has landed a gem of a case and needs our help. Miss Susan Sawyer was about to auction her prized diamond when she discovered the ring in the vault was a fake. Here is a list of the people Miss Sawyer reported had access to the ring:Allison Boatwright, assistant at the auction house, sheltered, pampered, rudderlessEverett Goodwin, auction house director, butt kissing twerpDana Jones-Stann, accountant, keeper of the safe deposit box keysABOUT Kathleen Marple KalbKathleen Marple Kalb describes herself as an Author/Anchor/Mom…not in that order. Antwerp, Belgium, February 2003. The Antwerp Diamond Center was an impregnable fortress in the diamond capital…until it wasn't. Thieves disabled the vaults heat and motion sensors and got around and/or through Doppler radar, a lock with 100 million combinations, and 2-ft thick metal doors that signaled the police if pulled apart. The industrious thieves had 4-5 hours in the vault, leaving with diamonds, gems, and cash valued at $100mil at the time and more like $160mil today. On their exit, they took the security footage. They would have gotten away cleanly…if they had only cleaned up after themselves. The bags of trash they left in the woods along the highway provided the clues that led to the arrest and conviction of Leonardo Notarbartolo, a career criminal who posed as a diamond merchant to case the diamond center, and several of his compatriots. During the trial, Notarbartolo denied being the mastermind and argued the value was a fraction of what was claimed. He served 5 years of his 10 years sentence, was paroled, and then some years later violated the parole and returned to prison to finish the sentence. Little of loot was ever found. The scale and skill of the heist captured imaginations. The Antwerp heist was featured on the first episode of The History Channel's “History's...
SERIES 3 EPISODE 79: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: It is now revealed that at a Thanksgiving-eve dinner on a patio at the Mar-a-Lago Crapshack, Trump had his minions play a recording of the national anthem sung by the January 6th Terrorists. Some of them at Trump’s table put their hands over their hearts as the people who stormed our capitol intending to take over our government sang words, the actual meaning of which they cannot possibly understand. Per The Wall Street Journal, one of those who put his hand over his heart during this travesty was… Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg leads the parade of pathetic billionaires also including Jeff Bezos and Sam Altman, who just happen to be donating a million dollars to Trump's inauguration committee. Except for ABC News, which is donating FIFTEEN million to Trump's presidential museum (which may be in an empty warehouse or a sinkhole somewhere) to settle his frivolous and easily winnable defamation case against George Stephanopoulos. On March 22nd, 1979, I was ushered into the small office of a Vice President at the ABC television series “The Wide World of Sports.” His wife had been an assignment editor at the local New York TV station I had interned at the previous summer – though we were not there simultaneously. He and the Mrs. and my friends from the local station all warned me this gentleman would not have a job for me nor even any job leads, just advice. His name was Robert Iger. “Call me Bob,” he insisted. Within fifteen years he was president of ABC and thus the boss of all my bosses at ESPN and he was my boss there three times and for two further years at ABC and he gave me brilliant advice I've repeated a thousand times: if you want to be on the air, don't take an off-air job. It has truly changed lives. And now, after 45-and-a-half years I’d like to repay Bob Iger and give him MY advice: Sell ABC News to somebody who actually cares about the future of news and the future of journalism and the future of this country because you guys at Disney ain’t it any more. What do you think you bought for yourself here, Bob? Trump’s gratitude? Him somehow remembering you fondly the NEXT time ABC News does something he doesn’t like, like, say, accurately report how many people show up to his inauguration, or how many insurrectionists he pardons, or how many people die during the migrant round-ups into the migrant concentration camps? Even if Trump CAN still remember do you think he WILL remember? Or all the mini-Trumps? What you have done is merely become part of the process by which freedom of the press, and freedom in the nation, dissolve. My advice, offered again in gratitude for YOUR advice in 1979: sell ABC News to somebody who cares. B-Block (27:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Did Trump demand the end of Daylight Savings Time but think he was demanding the end of STANDARD Time? Van Jones plus Chris Cillizza equals Extra Large Stupid. And the New York radio station that is quite literally running a bulletin "sound" for "DRONE WATCH 2024." (39:27) SPORTSBALLCENTER: I have actually solved baseball's playoff crisis, the one in which in three of the last four years the team with the best record has been eliminated in its first playoff round and 14 of the 24 division winners have, too. It's actually a really really good idea. C-Block (52:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Offended by this CNN crapfest every night where Abby Phillip lets this jackass Scott Jennings insult everyone and everything good about America, in front of an ever-shrinking audience? We tried this at MSNBC long ago only the clown was Michael Savage. It didn't end well for us and it ain't gonna end well for CNN.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. Some episodes are original stories, others will be classics that helped shape the mystery genre we know today. All are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. For Season 6, Jack and I have again decided to go ad-free. I do this because I love mysteries, Jack does it because he loves me. Jack maybe a starving college student but it's because… We do ask you support the writers of our show. This week it's Nikki Knight. Check her out on her website and social, buy and read her stories, help other readers find her. Make writing for Mysteries to Die For the best decision she could have made. In your review, tell her Tina and Jack said ‘Ahowwwl'.This is Season 6, Things that Go Jack in the Night. This season contains truly imaginative mysteries around one of the most common words in the English language. From the brandy distilled from hard cider known as applejack to that nefarious one-eyed jack, to the animals, vegetables, fruits, tools, weapons, and slang, the way the word “jack” is used in the English language is truly unique, inventive, and too numerous for me to count. And yes, it is also the name of my piano player and producer. For Episode 3, The legendary DJ Wolfman Jack is the featured jack. This is This Never Happened to Wolfman Jack by Nikki KnightAbout Wolfman Jackhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfman_JackRobert Weston Smith (January 21, 1938 – July 1, 1995), known as Wolfman Jack, was an American disc jockey active for over 3 decades. Famous for the gravelly voice which he credited for his success, saying, "It's kept meat and potatoes on the table for years for Wolfman and Wolfwoman. A couple of shots of whiskey helps it. I've got that nice raspy sound."Cleveland's Alan Freed had originally called himself the "Moon Dog" after New York City street musician Moondog. Freed both adopted this name and used a recorded howl to give his early broadcasts a unique character. Smith's adaptation of the Moondog theme was to call himself Wolfman Jack and add his own sound effects. The character was based in part on the manner and style of bluesman Howlin' Wolf. At KCIJ, he first began to develop his famous alter ego, Wolfman Jack. According to author Philip A. Lieberman, Smith's "Wolfman" persona "derived from Smith's love of horror films and his shenanigans as a 'wolfman' with his two young nephews. The 'Jack' nickname was taken from the 'hipster' lingo of the 1950s, as in 'Take a page from my book, Jack', or the more popular, 'Hit the road, Jack.'"ABOUT Nikki Knighthttps://kathleenmarplekalb.com/nikki-knightNikki Knight describes herself as an Author/Anchor/Mom…not in that order. An award-winning weekend anchor at New York City's #1 all-news station, 1010 WINS Radio, she writes short stories and novels including the newly released Grace the Hit Mom Mystery, WRONG POISON (July 2023, Charade Media). The Hindenburg was an engineering masterpiece, an airship as large and as grand as the Titanic - and as doomed. On May 6, 1937, a young radio reporter named Herbert Morrison was on hand to record the Hindenburg's arrival at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Instead, Morrison helped radio to broadcast one of modern history's great disasters, as it suddenly unfolded in all its terrible glory. But even as Morrison's eyewitness report chronicled the end of one era, it signaled the beginning of another - an age in which electronic media would routinely report shocking events in the moment that they occurred. In addition to the story of the Hindenburg, this serves as a preview of Season 1.Broadcast audio courtesy of Marc Garabedian, Mark 56 RecordsContributors: Herbert MorrisonDr. Michael Biel, renowned broadcast historian.Mike Freedman, President of National Press Club, Professor at GWU –Don Hewitt, former CBS News producer (Garner Audio Archive)Aaron Brown, former CNN anchor(Garner Audio Archive)John Montone, former reporter for 1010 WINS Radio, New YorkSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode, Rhonda welcomes Ilyssa Panitz, a Divorce Journalist and Columnist. According to Ilyssa, too many times women act on emotions, and then when faced with a barrage of questions about money, finances, marital residence, and expenses, they come up short by not having any of the answers. It is crucial, vital, and imperative that women do their homework before serving their husbands with divorce papers. Ilyssa's message for you today is: You are going to be OK. You are going to land on your feet. You are going to survive and thrive. Here are some of her recommendations: Preparation is everything. Keep your emotions in check. It is a very big transaction and you have to treat it as such. You have to know your facts. Investigate, investigate, investigate. Set a new email address, your own bank account, get your own credit card, check your vehicle for a tracking device, get off your social media, do not put anything regarding your matter on social media, get Life360 app for your children… Put a team together. Your lawyer should not be your accountant. Find 2-3 people you like and have them work together. The team you hire works for you.
