She was fortunate enough to live overseas in Europe and Saudi Arabia as a child because of her father's international work. She returned to Canada and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She went on to complete her medical degree at Ponce School of Medicine, Puerto Rico. Dr. Dempsey went on to specialize in Internal Medicine at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. She relocated to Las Vegas in 2006 where she completed her third year of Internal Medicine residency at University Medical Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, and became board certified in Internal Medicine. In this episode I spoke with Amy Downs. Amy Downs is a miracle story. At 28 years of age, she was a self-described lazy, college dropout who had recently put on 100 extra pounds. On April 19, 1995, she was working as a credit card loan officer at the Federal Employees Credit Union located in the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City when she found herself buried alive, upside down in the basement of a nine-story building. With 168 people killed and more than half of her colleagues dying from the deadliest act of domestic violence in American history, Downs was one of the last people to be pulled out of the rubble alive. Tracy is the author of The Unexpected Spy which recounts her time in the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center, assuming aliases, thwarting terrorist attacks, and hiding in the trunks of cars on her way to debrief terrorists at black sites.Tracy worked as Staff Operations Officer (SOO) at the Central Intelligence Agency's Counterterrorism Center Weapons of Mass Destruction Group. During her time at the CIA, Tracy traveled to Afghanistan, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Morocco, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, and England. During this time Tracy received many awards for her service from both the CIA and from foreign intelligence offices as well. Among her awards were four Exceptional Performance Awards from the Director of the CIA, two Special Activity Awards, a Meritorious Unit Citation Award, a DCI Counterterrorism Center Medal, and two Operation Enduring Freedom Targeting Awards. After the CIA, Tracy became a Special Agent at the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office specializing in Chinese counterintelligence operations.
