Breaking 5 is a running podcast based on breaking 5 minutes in the mile. A goal I started dreaming up just about a year ago. It’s honestly a pretty ridiculous goal of mine, one of those goals you set that you don’t know if it’s possible but you’re crazy enough to go for it anyways. But here I am sharing this ridiculous goal and then deciding to name a podcast after it. I will be interviewing other coaches, healthcare professionals, runners with inspiring stories and knowledge to help other runners benefit from their insight and knowledge and to overall stay inspired in the journey.

I am so excited to have Kate Edwards on the podcast this week! Kate came on in the past in a duo episode with Blair Green to talk about running during pregnancy and post-partum in episode 54. This episode I brought her on to talk about her own running journey. Kate was diagnosed with a heart condition - AVRC - that changed her relationship with running forever. She went from running 13 marathons and 3 Boston's to now being able to run a limited amount while keeping her HR at certain levels. I am so thankful for Kate's vulnerability in sharing her journey through this process and I know you will all benefit from what she has to share. We talked a lot about the OTHER TOOLS runners would benefit from having in their TOOLBOX besides just running. Kate went on her own journey after her own diagnosis to discovering other ways to gain the mental and emotional benefits running provides and I wanted to bring her on to talk about these as running is not always guaranteed. Yoga, meditation, breathwork, work with a mental health specialist are a few of topics covered. Kate is also a running physical therapist and owns her own concierge PT practice, Precision Performance with locations in the Atlanta area where she works with everyone from the weekend warrior to professional runners. In true runner + entrepreneur fashion - she has accomplished A LOT and one of her latest entrepreneurial endeavors has been creating an online resource for RUNNERS with EVERYTHING you could need - and the best part - she didn't create it alone but pulled in A TON of other experts in the running space to collaboratively create an amazing resource for runners.
