Coming in at #4 of our top episodes of 2023 is my conversation with Megan James. She is a PhD Student at Cardiff Metropolitan University. In her studies, she is exploring returning to running after childbirth. Her goal is to help bridge the gap between clinicians and research, and has collaborated with other researchers and clinicians on recent publications. We look at all of the different factors that can play into a mom's experience in returning to run after having a baby. Megan shares insight from her research and how it can help clinicians better serve their patients. This interview is full of great takeaways! Her e-survey is currently open and she would appreciate responses to help us in this under-researched area! Megan James our newest trainer and now learning and development instructional designer has created two new trainings you should know about. More about her is below: Hometown: Rolla, MO Pets: Two Goldendoodles, Ruby and Piper Hobbies: Going to the beach, exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends and family, but mostly working on my yard and house Strengths: Learner – Achiever – Intellection – Relator – Discipline Favorite Life Hack: Putting saran wrap on a paint brush, cup or tray while painting so it doesn't dry out. Here are the show notes from the podcast; Q1: Your first idea was to beef up what we call Train the Trainer here at ServiStar. Can you describe to the listeners your vision for such a quest? My vision was to create a robust and impactful training that was comprehensive. In my experience over the years there are many train the trainer programs, but there are always pieces missing that I feel are valuable. I wanted to ensure with our train the trainer program that all of our learners walked away with everything they needed to be successful. Q2: After delivering this onsite last week, I can say with certainty this is not one you will want to miss out on folks….Seeing that this can be a competency for ServiStar in and of itself, what types of credit unions could you see bringing us on to just do Train the Trainer Well, Scott, honestly it really depends – could be a smaller shop with a one person training team who never gets developed on their own but whose job it is to develop others- or a huge credit union with a 20 person training shop who could use this training to align expectations of effective training practices. Q3: If a credit union were to be interested in learning more about this training where can they go to get help- I highly encourage anyone interested to go to our website at www.servistarconsulting.com and click on the yellow button at the top to schedule a call with me. I would be happy to discuss the program in more detail. Megan also added to our competency list an Emotional Intelligence training most recently Q1: Where did the demand come from for this custom piece of training- I think that often times as leaders we get wrapped up in the operational aspect of our job and don't lean on our emotional intelligence as much as we should. Using this awareness in our interactions is so impactful. We are kicking this off very soon with the credit union leagues in the Southeast and have other credit unions ready to sign up as soon as it's available. Q2: Give us a sneak peek of the material, what is one of your favorite aspects of this new training. Oh gosh, I love all of it and truly enjoyed developing it, but I think my favorite part is the role play I created at the end to truly give leaders the opportunity to walk through a situation that could be emotionally difficult utilizing all of the different strategies discussed throughout the course. Q3: Any last thoughts for the listeners? Ya know, I just have to say how much I love working on our team, Scott. I am truly excited about coming to work every day. I love these two new courses we've created and I think they will be valuable to our clients, but I'm even more jazzed about the material we have in the pipeline, so stay tuned! Q1: And the most important question we could ask on this podcast….Megan…how are your dogs? Aw, thank you so much for asking! My little unemployed freeloaders are doing really well. ANOHNI, Hannah Peel, Hayden Thorpe and Purity Ring's Megan James discuss questions including what their music might sound like in an alternate universe. Hayden Thorpe is the frontman from the now disbanded Wild Beasts, and has moved to the north of England where his solo albums are inspired by the nature that surrounds him. UK-born singer, songwriter, and visual artist ANOHNI has had an eclectic career as a solo artist and as a member of the Mercury Prize-winning Antony and the Johnsons. She's also been nominated for an Academy Award, and creates thought-provoking music that ask questions of those in power, gender imbalances, and climate change. Megan James is a member the duo Purity Ring. Formed in Edmonton, Canada, they are known for their crystal clear synth sounds, hypnotic melodies, and corporeal, metaphorical lyrics. Hannah Peel is a composer, producer, and radio broadcaster born in Northern Ireland and raised in the North of England. Her music explores electronic, classical, and traditional sounds, and is often inspired by science and nature.
Tri Delta held our first ever virtual Volunteer Leadership Conference the weekend of July 16-17! Despite our collective experience of the last 18 months, Tri Delta is coming out of this more vibrant than ever! Megan celebrates our many accomplishments and has a sit-down conversation with Rob Wilson of Culture Shift Team, our partner in completing our organization-wide diversity audit. Megan and Rob discuss the progress of our LEADDD Now action plan to create a more inclusive and equitable lifetime membership experience for our Black, Indigenous and Sisters of Color. Listen in as Megan provides a glimpse of the many successes we have to be proud of and exciting things to come!
Been obsessed with the duo band, Purity Ring, since I heard Stardew last November & will be seeing them LIVE THIS November for their tour of Womb. Thought I'd look up & share some history about the band. Purity Ring's witch house, dream-pop, trip-hop, "future pop," (as they describe themselves) music is anything but religious. Religiously amazing dedication perhaps. Each song is flawless, lyrics taken from vocalist Megan James's own diary entries. Empowering to the core. "Gory" and "provocative" to some but ruthlessly and beautifully delivered through Corrin Roddick's electro-beats & his own hand made instrument concoction, both wearing clothes hand-sweb by Megan on live shows, with lighting also perfected to create the most existentialist fantastical vibe possible. Needless to say, I'm eager for this show. The music itself...is a must listen. Enjoy these whispers & I hope you drift off to sleep

The last time you heard from us in the Making Comics Gutter Talk headquarters, it was Halloween and we were having a lively discussion with Stephen Bissette. Well, it's now Earth Day, six months later, and we're finally putting out another episode. We know, we missed you all, too. But the hope is we're now back to at least one episode per month and if more time can be unearthed, we'll bump things back up to two episodes a month. But all in due time, friends. All in due time. We promise. As for this episode, Adam sits down for a second recording with artist and creator Megan James. She is the mind and skill behind Innsmouth, a magical story that is part Lovecraft, part Book of Mormon, and has fish people. That's definitely on you if you don't find that exciting. Adam and Megan actually spoke late last year but life has a funny way of becoming an obstacle to things and the conversation was shelved. However, Adam made sure when he returned to the scene, Megan had to be the first guest and a new conversation was to be had. The topics in this episode range from figuring how to lay out a page for maximum effect, comedy or otherwise, to finding a ton of usefulness in taking a scriptwriting class.
