Heffron Producer: Howie Horwitz Writer: Richard Compton Stars: Martin Sheen, Vic Morrow, Michelle Philips, Nick Nolte, Stuart Margolin PROMO: Movie Wars (@MovieWarsPod) SHOWNOTES: Due to production issues, we are jumping ahead to our next episode ahead of Ghost in the Shell: we're reviewing the 1974 made-for-TV film starring Martin Sheen, The California Kid! This action thriller car movie is a blast to the past, filmed in the 70s and set in the 50s. While it may be one of our more obscure picks, Robert, Beau, and Ash tell you why we think it's worth a watch, not only for car enthusiasts but anyone interested in a TV flick with a rising star. We'll be back with Ghost in the Shell as soon as possible and then our next scheduled episode: the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, "The Day of the Doctor"! Collateral Cinema is on Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, and Twitter, and is on Goodpods, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts, YouTube, iHeart, and wherever else you get your podcasts! We sort of dropped the ball on releasing an At the Movies review while Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was in theaters, and we didn't mention it on the Year in Review episode, but since Collateral Media has covered both of the previous films, we just couldn't not talk about the latest—and possibly greatest—one. So, once again, Collateral Gaming joins Collateral Cinema for a discussion of Jeff Fowler's newest Sonic movie, and this time we can get into full spoilers! With the addition of fan favorite Keanu Reeves to the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog, and the return of Jim Carrey for not just one Robotnik role, but two, it's sure to be a blast! Bob was a California Kid when the Source Family and Manson Family were gaining momentum in the late 60's & early 70's Los Angeles scene. Both of these groups influenced the record industry at the time and Bob's brother in-law was the founder of Kama Sutra Records and Family Productions and was a mega music industry exec and prolific producer of the Bubblegum Pop era. This connection would place Bob in a number of epic Hollywood stories you're about to hear.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A California middle-school student faced suspension for alleged "blackface" at a local football game, while a national civil rights organization argued it was merely eye paint. The eighth-grader, identified as J.A. for privacy, was photographed at a football game between La Jolla High School and Morse High School on October 13, sporting dark face paint on his cheeks and chin, as reported by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE).The boy's father recounted a trouble-free and enjoyable evening, and even mentioned a black security guard who encouraged his son to apply more face paint. However, a week after the game, Muirland Middle School's principal called for a meeting with J.A. and his parents, announcing a two-day suspension and a ban from future athletic events.A disciplinary notice accused J.A. of "painting his face black at a football game" and labeled it an "offensive comment with intent to harm."Principal Jeff Luna also cited the offensiveness of the face paint, attributing it to Morse High School's predominantly black student population, according to Cal Coast News.MERCH aka SWAG: https://my-store-d4b9d0.creator-spring.com/SOCIAL LINKS https://linktr.ee/derekosheashowPolitically Homeless Daily Comedy News ShowEmail: derekosheashow@gmail.comDisclaimerThis is a COMEDY podcast; please take everything said on the podcast as such.Live News,Current Events,Breaking News,Conservative,Conservative Comedy,Clean comedy, football face paint, kid does black face, california black face, black face, blackface, face paint, derek oshea show, derek o'shea show, just in,go woke go broke, donald trump, current events, news, politics, breaking, clean comedy, breaking news, joe biden, tpusa, live news, republican, conservative comedy, comedy news show, breaking news live, conservative, latest news, political newsSupport the show
Vince Murdock is a professional mixed martial arts fighter who came up from difficult circumstances and worked his entire life to get into the UFC. When he finally got the call, a pre-fight brain scan showed he had Moyamoya disease and a life-threatening arterial blockage. Following brain surgery that involved removing a quarter of his skull, Vince's perspective on life radically shifted. He became a father, got into cycling to rehab from surgery and formed an inclusive community, the Enjoy Cycling Club, to counter the elitism and exclusion that's commonplace in competitive cycling. Vince trains at Team Alpha Male under the supervision of multiple former UFC title belt holders and champions including Cody No Love Gabrandt and team founder and owner The California Kid, Urijah Faber. Vince has a unique perspective on life and deep wisdom from the hardships he has persevered through both before and after his surgery. He is a remarkable human and I am deeply grateful for what he shares in this interview. It really moved me. I'm dedicating this episode to my good friend Aaron Burby and his friends and family. Aaron suddenly died from complications related to undiagnosed Moyamoya disease in 2020. He has been with me every day since then and he always will be. Like Vince, Aaron made the people around him feel loved and special, he was a gifted community builder, went full gas after his goals in life and expected the people he loved to give everything to what they valued. Special thanks to past Choose the Hard Way guest Derek Teel from Dialed Health for connecting me to Vince. This is a special conversation and I'm grateful to be able to share it with you all. Shawn Wong discovered the first Japanese American novel, No-No Boy, at a used bookstore for 50 cents, after being told by his English professors that Asian American literature didn't exist. He sought out the author, John Okada, and he fought to have the book republished and distributed far and wide, to unearth the legacy of Asian American writers. But all the mainstream publishers rejected it. So Shawn started to print, distribute, and sell the novel himself with friends, often from the trunk of his car. The Asian American community turned up, ordering books by mail, telling their friends, and sending checks with handwritten letters- a testament to a generation hungry for their own stories.Correction, 10:30 a.m., 6/6/2023: The audio version of this story misstates the name of the protagonist in No-No Boy. There are not enough words to describe the qualities and characteristics that make Efrain "Bugs" Gonzales who he is. Seen and done it all, his captivating story begins in Mesa, Arizona where at a young age his love for cars began after seeing a commercial for the, “California Kid”. Shown the importance of humility and hard work, Bugs and his family spent their summers picking in Northern California, where on his drives up, he would notice the beautiful pinstriping and hand painted lettering on big rigs that would change his world forever. Naive to lowriding at first, that all changed once Bugs began cruising Central in Phoenix, Arizona, where the sights and sounds of cars hopping, cruising, and hitting the switches left him feeling like he was in, "Boulevard Nights". The boulevard was also the place a scroll design on a 1976 Caprice done by the legendary "E.T" struck Bugs and inspired him to learn how to stripe. But before he began to lay down lines, Bugs' journey in automotive art began as a painter's helper for his friend Jesse Anaya, who helped Bugs' paint his 1964 Impala. Not only did he receive a beautiful piece of art, he soaked up valuable knowledge and information that gave him the confidence to run with his dream. His introduction to striping also came soon after, when he saw a man by the name of, "J.B", pinstriping at a local car show. Overflowing with curiosity, Bugs had his '64 striped, but watching J.B would be an understatement. Bugs examined everything he did while he striped his car; the way he held his brush, his toolbox, his paints, his brushes, everything. Bugs went on to practice the art of pinstriping religiously and after a year, he was given the opportunity to stripe his buddy Anthony's car, and that's where "Bugs Did It" was born. This led him to seek the guidance and respect of Butch Tucker, one of the greatest stripers in Arizona. Although hesitant at first, Bugs' put aside what he had heard and put it all on the line to learn from the best and accomplished exactly what he had set out to do.Everyone says '90's car shows were something else and Bugs was there to experience it. At a car show in Phoenix, Bugs meets a young Mister Cartoon, who had been intrigued by his striping and was eager to meet him. Although Bugs never thought of Los Angeles, he and Cartoon exchanged numbers and kept in touch. After a few three in the morning phone calls, Bugs decided to take him up on his offer and see what LA was all about. Cartoon quickly introduced Bugs to Los Angeles, and soon Bugs found himself actively going to shows, working on perfecting his craft, attending LA Trade Tech, and meeting a network of artists, including OG Abel, Doc Guthrie and a very special artist, Danny D. Always paying his respects, Bugs never forgets the impact Mister Cartoon had on his career and life. Together the two were members of Lifestyle Car Club, created timeless works of art, and contributed to the rich culture and history that still impacts others to this day. Bugs is not only a gifted artist, he is a one-of-a-kind friend. Bugs reminisces on his friendship with the late and great Danny D and the memories they created. Together, they formed a bond that was founded on respect, encouragement, and loyalty. Whether it was breaking bread or working together to create lasting work, Danny D and Bugs were the dynamic duo that has inspired people all over the globe. The legacy left by Danny D is remembered by Bugs and he continues to embody his gentle personality everyday. The memories and experiences of Efrain "Bugs" Gonzales are enough to write a book. It is a story of sacrifice and devotion; the one of a pioneer who changed the art of lowriding and automotive art, and will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever live. We cherish and celebrate the life and legacy of Efrain "Bugs" Gonzales and Danny D Galvez, not only for their contribution to what we love, but for carrying themselves with their humble hearts.

Back again after a much longer hiatus than we expected!! Two movies, both great in their own way but not quite perfect, chosen without consultation between “The Film Guys.” Ironically (or maybe not), they chose similar films about youth in fast cars, crime, and the law. The California Kid is a TV movie starring Martin Sheen and Vic Morrow and Streets of Fire is director Walter Hill’s love poem to his lost youth. Both are well worth your precious viewing time!!

Rivera talked about the chance to improve his record against Faber, how he approaches fighting well-established fighter and his respect for "The California Kid." Rivera also spoke about the biggest news in the history of the UFC. Days before this show the UFC announced they sold to WME l IMG for a whopping $4.2 billion, which has media speculating some fighters may be wondering where their piece of the pie is. Rivera gave his thoughts on the price tag, how the UFC operates and his satisfaction with Dana White.
