The guys share their thoughts on Bowden's recruiting philosophies, including how he wants USC's 2026 high school recruiting class to be the biggest in school history, how he wants to really focus on California prospects and the impressive personnel staff he, athletic director Jen Cohen and head coach Lincoln Riley have put together to help make the football roster elite. The Helium Boys Podcast returns to discuss the Media Day for the new USC coaches, the greatness of Rob Ryan and recording in a Waffle House. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back behind for another edition of the Helium Boys Podcast...but with a twist. The boys are both on the road in Georgia for work, setting up for a completely mobile podcast on the road. The episode opens not with the duo together, but Chris stranded in the airport waiting for Shotgun to arrive. Once they are reunited the Helium Boys run through the 'Two-Minute Drill' on the road, which included a gift from Shotgun. The Helium Boys then spend the majority of the drive to talk about the media day debut of USC's new hires: general manager Chad Bowden, linebackers coach Rob Ryan, cornerbacks coach Trovon Reed and inside receivers/tight ends coach Chad Savage. After a break, the podcast duo answers your mailbag questions discussing Big Ten baseball, Rob Ryan against Ed Orgeron and if it's too late for USC football in 2025. Shotgun Spratling is then put through a Georgia-themed Take It or Leave It to wrap things up in the most perfect location: Waffle House. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the changing Trojans roster following the December early signing period and the first two days of the NCAA transfer portal being open. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Chris having to rein Shotgun in after he goes on a wild tangent before the timer ever starts. Chris and Shotgun then dive into USC's roller coaster Signing Day that saw the Trojans sign Jahkeem Stewart and flip Alex Graham from Colorado, but lose a pair of linebackers with Jadon Perlotte flipping to Tennessee and Madden Faraimo signing with Notre Dame. The podcasters then dive into the first two days of entrants into the NCAA transfer portal from USC with 12 players entering their names. Chris and Shotgun break down the future impact of each of those entrants' departures. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing culture building in the transfer portal era and how they would attack the transfer portal if they were a current player. There are also questions about USC's general manager hire that has still not been made. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and then having him do a blind ranking of Christmas cookies, which leads to some vehement arguments. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans' deflating finish after pushing No. 5 Notre Dame in the Coliseum only to see the game slide through their hands in the final four minutes and the loss of fourth-year junior quarterback Miller Moss to the NCAA transfer portal. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the wildness of rivalry weekend and flag planting before Chris uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' to discuss the atmosphere in the Coliseum late in the fourth quarter when USC was driving to try to tie the game against at top five Irish club. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Action at the 1-yard line is discussed as is quarterback Jayden Maiava's performance through the first 55 minutes. The Helium Boys both have Quinten Joyner and Makai Lemon on their stock up section while the tight ends receive some love after being on the field on nearly every snap. Shotgun also brings up doghouse Ja'Kobi Lane, who played like a dawg becoming the first USC receiver with three touchdown catches against Notre Dame since Dwayne Jarrett nearly 20 years ago despite only getting 22 offensive snaps. On the flip side, Shotgun and Chris discuss everything falling apart late in the game and how 'handling pressure' saw its stock slide while the Trojans struggled to finish strong. The unfortunate end to Woody Marks' reception streak is also brought up as is the performance of the offensive line. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the impact of USC's wide receiver usage and the debate about signature wins. There are also questions about transfer portal strategy and the possibility of an "Inferno Game" at USC in the future.. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans getting back to .500 with a 28-20 win over Nebraska in UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava's first start in cardinal and gold. The podcasters also look forward, giving their thoughts on the upcoming matchup against UCLA. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun talking about his excitement about the rivalry game set to take plae this weekend. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to discuss some of the traditions missing from his coverage of practices leading up to Saturday's Crosstown Showdown and how Kyle Ford brought back some fire with his mentality about facing off against his former team. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. The way the ball comes off Maiava's hand and his velocity is discussed as well as an unprecedented streak of good fortune that was bestowed upon the Trojans against the Cornhuskers after having only bad luck for much of this season. Play calling and the run game headed by running back Woody Marks after his career-best performance also get a positive review as do defensive linemen Elijah Hughes and Kameryn Fountain along with others. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw issues with their health after an outbreak of flu cases cut through the locker room. The return and departure of Jacobe Covington as well as the limited playing time of Ja'Kobi Lane are also focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Anthony Lucas, Zachariah Branch and Lane. There are also recruiting and hypothetical retention inquiries, and a fun question about who could/should become USC's new Big Ten rival. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and then the viability of some famous people wearing jorts. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down another disappointing USC loss, this time with a slightly different script but with all the familiar elements as the Trojans held a fourth-quarter lead on the road only to relinquish the lead and not be able to find the end zone for the game-winning score. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on what to expect following Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the anniversary of a classic Helium Boys road trip as well as the Women of Troy getting a gutsy season-opening victory in the Aflec Oui-Play event in Paris. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to tell an epic story of trying to find food after the conclusion of the USC-Washington game. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Zachariah Branch had one of his best games this season while young pass rushers Sam Greene and Kameryn Fountain continue to earn more opportunities. Maiava's stock is obviously on the rise as he takes over the reins of the USC offense and the Trojans' run game, when given a chance, continues to excel recently. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw some weak points at right tackle as well as one of their cornerback spots. Those and Riley's playcalling are focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing young players that could become starters next season and USC women's basketball's dramatic win in Paris. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and what stood out from Shotgun's trip to Paris. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Seattle where they will once again discuss everything that made the road trip a nightmare for the Trojan football team and their fans. After the 26-21 loss to Washington, USC falls to 4-5 on the season, 0-4 on the road and has lost four of its last five games heading into the bye week. Head coach Lincoln Riley has as many losses (10) in his last 16 games at USC than he had in his entire Oklahoma career (55-10). After the game Riley continued with his message that the team is doing a lot of great things and they are simply one play away from turning a loss into a victory. While that is technically true, the common dominator is that being close to winning isn't good enough, especially when the schedule was favorable and some of those losses shouldn't have been close enough to go either way. The guys talk about what they saw and heard up in Seattle and try to make sense of this team fighting for bowl eligibility instead of a berth in the expanded College Football Playoffs. What is left for USC to play for? Wins over Nebraska plus rivals UCLA and Notre Dame would be nice, but it wouldn't erase another (at least) five-loss season in year three of Riley's tenure. This campaign started with great promise after beating LSU in Las Vegas, but four losses in the last five weeks officially makes USC football 2024 another wasted season. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio giving their thoughts on the Trojans 42-20 victory over Rutgers Friday night in the Coliseum. After enduring a tough three-game losing streak, USC finally got back on the winning side thanks to over 300 yards passing for Miller Moss and three rushing touchdowns by Woody Marks. Before the guys give their thoughts on the game they welcome in the aforementioned Woody Marks, who had 94 yards rushing on just 15 attempts with a long of 22 and that trio of touchdowns that got the Trojans going early. Woody joins the show to talk about his progress this season, catching the ball out of the backfield, how important it was to get that win Friday and lots more. The interview with Woods was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Maryland and ready to talk about USC's latest baffling defeat, this time at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins. This was the third long road trip for the Trojans and the third time this program and their travelling fans had to endure a disappointing plane ride back to Los Angeles, thinking about everything that went wrong and all of the missed opportunities that could have secured a victory. After building up a comfortable 21-7 lead at the halftime break, USC got a stop and had the ball near midfield with a chance to put the game away. A Miller Moss interception turned the tide and the familiar late game collapse unfolded, with the Terps making all of the right moves and the Trojans making all of the key mistakes to let the game slip away. The guys talk about everything they saw and heard in College Park, the quotes (or lack thereof) from players and coaches after the game and what their thoughts on what this loss means for the rest of the season and the Lincoln Riley era. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys return to break down USC's heartbreaking 33-30 overtime loss to No. 4 Penn State as a potential turn-the-season-around win eluded the Trojans in another tight game. Shotgun and Chris also look forward to USC's upcoming matchup and a final cross-country road trip this weekend as the Trojans take on struggling Maryland, the alma mater of one Chris Trevino. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' where Chris spends half of his time on his initial thoughts of the Penn State game before dedicating his final minute to what Maryland football meant to him growing up and how it helped lead him to this point in his life where he gets to cover a USC-Maryland football game. Shotgun then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to again talk about the inconsistency of Big Ten officiating and discusses why he's bullish on the Trojans' chances to go on a run in the second half of the season. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip over the last week. A couple of bounce-back performances earned Quinten Joyner and Jaylin Smith spots on the Stock Up side. The young defensive depth is also on the rise as Devan Thompkins got his first career start and led the team with four pressures while Desman Stephens II's fourth-ever snap with the first team saw him intercept Drew Allar and return it 42 yards. On the flip side, the Trojans' pass rush struggles and inability to defend Tyler Warren are featured prominently in the Stock Down portion. The Helium Boys then preview the upcoming road trip to Chris Trevino Country for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. There are a couple consensus picks among the podcasting duo as both are looking for Miller Moss to have a big impact and are keeping a watchful eye on the Trojans' pass rush against a porous Terrapin offensive line. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing all manner of items from the USC coaching staff's preparedness, Big Ten officials, what next season holds and learning how to win close games. The episode concludes with a role reversal as Shotgun quizzes Trevino with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans, including if Eric Gentry can continue to lead the team in some defensive categories even if he doesn't return this season. Shotgun then puts Chris through the Overtime ringer with Maryland-related Take It or Leave Its. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino behind the microphones for another episode. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's come-from-behind 38-21 victory over Wisconsin in the Trojans' first-ever Big Ten game in the Coliseum and look forward to a trip to Minnesota to take on a stingy Golden Gophers team that has struggled to put together a complete game. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that includes Chris thanking the staff for filling in for him after missing the game for a wedding while Shotgun initially goes off the rails talking about MLB's final day of the regular season before discussing the potential of road weariness starting to play a factor for the Trojans as they travel back and forth across the country. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Ja'Kobi Lane and the carousel of receiving targets taking first billing are discussed as well as the Trojans' defense getting repeated stops on third and fourth down. Quinten Joyner, Kamari Ramsey and second-half adjustments also make the cut. But on the flip side, USC's lack of intensity coming out of the gates the last two weeks was discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the Helium Boys preview the Trojans' upcoming Big Ten road trip to Minnesota, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday evening's game. The podcast duo then answer your mailbag questions discussing primarily offensive line concerns and defensive pressure issues of the Trojans. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Minnesota. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's disappointing 24-17 loss to Michigan in Minneapolis as their first-ever conference Big Ten road win again evaded the Trojans. They also look forward to USC's upcoming matchup against a top five Penn State team in the Coliseum this weekend. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that Shotgun apparently has no regard for any more after blatantly abusing the timer as he rants about the inconsistency of the Big Ten officiating that USC has been subjected to during their tenure in the conference. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about his trip to Minnesota Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Woody Marks continues to be a stock up candidate after another strong performance. Eric Gentry's stock was on the rise despite not playing while youngsters Alani Noa and Jide Abasiri are on the climb as is USC's run blocking. On the flip side, the Trojans' run defense and inability to get off of blocks is discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. The Helium Boys then preview the upcoming Big Ten home opener against No. 4 Penn State for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the offensive line play and the warmth of offensive line coach Josh Henson's seat, zebra issues and Greedy Vance Jr. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Pennsylvania before having him cold rank the eight most American things in the Mall of America. The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino behind the microphones for another episode. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's heartbreaking 27-24 loss to Michigan in the Big House in their-ever Big Ten game and look forward to the first-ever Big Ten matchup in the Coliseum this weekend when Wisconsin comes to town. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that Chris apparently can't remember the name of. Shotgun talks about the atmosphere and the pageantry of the matchup between USC and Michigan as well as how one play could have changed this entire game. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how close the game was and how the Trojans showed grit to rally to take the lead before ultimately falling. Then he goes on a rant about the term "caddy corner," and it's usage in Ann Arbor on this trip. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Woody Marks and Miller Moss were two unanimous choices for improving stocks as was the continued elite, wild man play of Eric Gentry on the defensive side. But on the flip side, the offensive line was discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. The Helium Boys then preview the upcoming Big Ten home opener against Wisconsin for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Zachariah Branch's returns, Gentry's draft stock, offensive line concerns, play calling issues, zebra issues, signs of growth and even future WNBA Draft information. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Wisconsin. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Michigan where they witnessed what was a very frustrating loss for the Trojans, falling to Michigan 27-24 in front of over 110,000 souls in the Big House. The Wolverines were completely one-dimensional on offense with Alex Orji throwing for just 32 yards in his first career start, but Michigan ran for 290 yards including three explosive runs and that ended up being just enough offense for the boys in blue to take down USC. The Trojans couldn't have started worse on offense with the run blocking and pass protection equally bad in the first half. Lincoln Riley switched things up with his front five and that worked well after halftime, but USC just didn't play a clean enough game to take control of a game that was certainly within its reach. The guys talk about everything they saw and heard in Ann Arbor, the quotes (or lack thereof) from players and coaches after the game and what their thoughts on what this loss means for the rest of the Big Ten schedule. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return for a special Tunnel Vision takeover episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back with a special guest interview with USC linebacker Eric Gentry where he talks about regaining his confidence, his passion for film study, the Trojans' defensive turnaround and his affinity for Wawa. Gentry discusses how he's been able to get off to a great start to the season, leading the team with 14 tackles, including a team-best 3.5 tackles for loss, through the first two games. He credits the new coaching staff for helping him take his game to another level, including linebackers coach Matt Entz helping him decipher presnap indicators that have helped him play a step faster. A lot of that comes from his work in the film room, which is something Gentry has taken very seriously since now-Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce helped show him the importance during their time together at Arizona State. The 6-foot-6 linebacker also talks about the freedom he has in the new defense, how defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn asks for and uses his feedback from the field and discusses when he realized the Trojans could have a good defense this year. He tries to define what his role in USC's defense is, and Gentry even looks back and opens up about the school he wanted an offer from growing up that never came. After a break, Shotgun and Chris delve into Gentry's personality, which has an on-field/off-field duality. Gentry also talks about the role his faith plays as a Muslim football player and why music is so important to him, particularly on game days. The episode concludes with the podcasting duo quizzing the Philadelphia native about his home city with Chris throwing some Take It or Leave Its about the iconic elements of Philly at Gentry. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's upcoming trip to Ann Arbor and the matchup with Michigan in the Trojans' first-ever Big Ten game. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Shotgun talks about former USC wide receiver Drake London having the game-winning catch on Monday Night Football as the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Philadelphia Eagles. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how excited he is about the upcoming matchup of USC playing in The Big House and the opportunity to cover a game in another historic venue. Chris and Shotgun then dive into a preview of the upcoming Michigan game for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore unveiling his starting quarterback five days before kickoff, how the Michigan offensive line is looking compared to last year and how much concern there should be about Bear Alexander's lack of production through the first two games. The Helium Boys also give their Mount Rushmore of former Wolverines before debating the top movie of The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman's notable career. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Michigan. Today we are going to be talking about field recording for the National Parks Service with recordist Chris Trevino. He tells us about his recent recording gig at Isle Royale Nation Park in Michigan, where he had his mics rolling in the park for 2 summer weeks. His goal was to capture the natural sounds of the pristine environment and the animals that call it home. Chris discusses how he got the contract with the Parks Service, how he prepared for 2 weeks with no power and what it took to pull it off once he was out in the wilderness. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's 48-0 thrashing of Utah State in the Trojans' home opener and discuss how the Trojans should be evaluated entering their bye week before a huge showdown with Michigan. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Shotgun raves about how good the Trojan defense has looked under the defensive staff of D'Anton Lynn, Eric Henderson, Matt Entz and Doug Belk after USC notched its first shutout in 13 years. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how important blowout victories are for the development of a program because of the opportunities it allows young players to get on the field, get their feet wet and get adjusted to the speed and physicality of the college game.. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their stocks in Stock Up/Stock Down looking at what players or elements were elevated or took a hit based on preseason expectations and the first game of the season. Both Helium Boys gush about the play of linebacker Eric Gentry, who seems to be having more fun than anyone in the stadium on game days and who is having a huge impact on a play-in, play-out basis. Shotgun goes as far as to put Gentry on All-American watch with the way he has shined through the first two games. There is plenty of stocks on the rise after a 48-0 win with Miller Moss, the running back group, young defenders and Lake McRee's surgeon all getting some love. The Stock Down section is much shorter as is to be expected, but one element Shotgun harps on is the receivers catching. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing among other things what it will take for the Trojans to be able to keep Lynn around for more than one season and what kind of adjustments Lynn can make against a Michigan offense that has struggled thus far. They also give their suggestions for an improved Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and talk about Lincoln Riley's red zone passing game play calling. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its around rankings and player performances. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino breaking down USC's 27-20 victory in the final seconds of the Vegas Kickoff Classic over No. 13 LSU and look forward to this week's matchup against Utah State. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Chris compares the atmosphere at Allegiant Stadium and the gameplay between two good teams to a College Football Playoff game while Shotgun talks about how quickly the game seemed to flash by with so many quality plays being made similarly to the previous CFP game he's covered -- the 2018 Rose Bowl between a Lincoln Riley-led Oklahoma team that fell to Georgia in overtime -- but he points out how that game ended with more than 100 points being scored compared to basically half of that output Sunday night. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their stocks in Stock Up/Stock Down looking at what players or elements were elevated or took a hit based on initial expectations. Chris mentions the improved special teams efforts that helped flip the field for USC while Shotgun brings up how preconceived notions of this team and its ceiling this season have to be thrown out after the way Miller Moss connected with his playmakers and the defense showed it's on a completely different level than it has been in recent years. Both Helium Boys also show some love for the tight ends and talk about the amount of joy being had by both players and fans in cardinal and gold. After a break, the podcast duo look forward to the Trojans' home opener this week previewing the key storyline, player and matchup for the Utah State game. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions primarily about the defensive play calling of D'Anton Lynn with some mention of recruiting and what the win over LSU means for the Trojans' future. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are finally back in studio to give a detailed preview of USC's first game of the 2024 college football season, a neutral site matchup against the No. 13 LSU Tigers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. All three hosts (along with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino) will be in Vegas for the game and they are excited as anyone to watch and talk about real football after a long off-season of quiet rebuilding for the Trojans. There is a lot of doubt about this USC squad that needs to replace Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and somehow get significantly better on defense, but head coach Lincoln Riley made a lot of moves, including a stacked defensive staff, and he appears to be ready to jump in and make the first year in the Big Ten a successful one. The guys talk about some of those improvements that were made and how that can help USC get off to a fast start to the season with a potential win over a top-15 opponent from the SEC. They also discuss what they know about the Tigers, who have a lot of similarities to the Trojans, having to replace a Heisman winner and make vast improvements on the defensive side of the ball. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back together for a special behind-the-scenes edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. The Helium Boys work through the process of compiling and debating a post-fall camp re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans' list. For the last five seasons, the USCfootball.com staff has counted down the Top 30 Most Important Trojans in a series of offseason articles leading up to the kickoff of fall camp. Each year under Lincoln Riley, the USC roster has seen significant turnover each year making it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure our who is going to play and how valuable they are going to be toward the team's success, so we've incorporated a re-rank when the Trojans' football team makes the transition from fall camp to game preparation in the week leading up to the season opener. Each USCfootball.com staff member submits his own list of whom he/she believes will be the most important Trojans. Considerations for the rankings take in a wide range of factors including positional depth, 2023 stats, overall talent, departures from the previous season, projected development and expectations. The only guidance we try to follow is that the most important factor for placement is if this particular player was lost for the season, how detrimental would it be to the team and the overall success of the season. The individual lists are submitted and compiled before Shotgun and Chris come together to sift through the information, debate and assemble the official USCfootball.com rankings. In this podcast, the Helium Boys give you a peek behind the curtain, allowing you to listen in on the re-rankings discussion as we sift, sort and come up with the final preseason rankings. The re-rank includes several risers on the defensive side of the ball, including Gavin Meyer and Anthony Lucas, as well as players whose importance declined whether through an inability to lock up a starting role or the emergence of other players. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino reunite for the Helium Boys Podcast to discuss the gloriousness that is the return of college football with No. 23 USC set to take on No. 13 LSU in the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic Sunday at Allegiant Stadium (4:30 p.m. PST; ABC). The Helium Boys preview the 2024 season and the opener against the Bayou Bengals with a new format as well as bringing back a couple of favorite segments from podcasts past Take It or Leave It and the Overtime period. They also answer your questions. But the episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill,' which takes on new meaning this season in college football with the implementation of a two-minute warning stoppage. Shotgun makes sure to get in a quick run of Stock Ups heading into the season during his two minutes while Chris initially has to wait to get the call in his headset as he mimics the new technology that will be allowed on the field for the first time in college football this season. Chris and Shotgun then dive into the approaching season opener and the opportunity that it is for both the Trojans and the Tigers -- two programs that enter as nearly mirror images as the similarities range up and down the gamut of storylines heading into the first game. They look at the key storyline as well as the player that could be a difference maker and the matchup that could determine the outcome. They also play a little 'fill in the blank' with the causation of a USC win and loss. After a break, Chris quizzes Shotgun with Take It or Leave It. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions about a number of topics spanning from the defensive coordinator preferences and how to best assess preseason intrasquad scrimmages before a couple of Vegas themed inquiries. The episode concludes with the Overtime section focused on Olympic sports Chris wants Shotgun to make a determination on. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! The Helium Boys Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino back behind the microphones to break down and react to Miller Moss being named the Trojans' starting quarterback after USC announced Lincoln Riley's decision Monday evening. The podcast also features an assessment of other notable position battles for the Trojans as they head into mock game week with the season opener less than two weeks away, and later in the episode, Chris breaks out the Over/Under betting lines to get Shotgun's feel on how the USC team will perform this season. This Helium Boys episode opens in a unique way as Shotgun is too excited about the impending college football season and skips right past the podcast staple opening 'Two-Minute Drill.' Instead the podcast duo jump right into the conversation about the impending season and Riley's decision to name his starting quarterback. Chris nearly gets pinned in the corner when thrown a potential comparison of this year's quarterback battle and decision with the one Clay Helton made in 2016 choosing Max Browne to start over Sam Darnold to open the season. Chris and Shotgun also break down some of the other position battles for the Trojans, including a couple like the right guard and inside linebacker spots that seem as if a decision may have already been made and a couple others on the defensive side that will continue at least for the next two weeks. After a break, Chris quizzes Shotgun with his Over/Under lines. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions about recruiting, quarterbacks and the potential of the Trojans' offense this season. The Helium Boys Podcast is back once more with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino returning behind the mics to wrap up the 2023 USC football season with end-of-season awards following the Trojans' 8-5 campaign that started with so much promise and a 6-0 start before a stunning decline in the second half of the season saw them lose five of six to end the regular season. The Helium Boys then wrap up the 2023 season with the end-of-season awards labeling not only the MVP and offensive/defensive players of the year but also the top freshman, lineman, coach and a number of other categories of season superlatives.
